Our today’s interviewee:
Leszek Zabłocki (born in 1924 in Warsaw), a veteran, member of the Military Organization Lizard Union, former inmate of the Pawiak prison in Warsaw and three concentration camps. After detention in the Majdanek camp, he was deported to KL Gross-Rosen in April 1944. At first, he was placed in the Revier (camp hospital), in one cell with tuberculosis patients. He managed to get better and was appointed a prisoner functionary in the hospital, but he was later moved to another block after he failed to share enough of the contents of the package he received from home with other functionaries. During his stay in the camp he witnessed many German crimes. He also talks about escape attempts. In the majority of cases, the prisoners who tried to escape were killed, and only those who spoke German fluently had a chance of succeeding. Several of his close friends died in Gross-Rosen, and the images of cruel executions have never left him.
