@gustavogatti7841 6 месяцев назад
@@OliverJames69No, it couldn't. Switching to a new angle of motion for bench press should not injure if done properly. Don't try to excuse the risky lifting technique (or lack thereof) that is dropping the weight on the eccentric part of the movement
@OliverJames69
@OliverJames69 6 месяцев назад

@gustavogatti7841 6 месяцев назад
@@OliverJames69 it's commonly known that correlation does not mean causation. It's unhealthy to think that switching the plane of motion by a few degrees puts you at a risk of injury. If that's your belief, you are training seriously wrong. It's really as simple as use proper tempo & technique and you will be at minimal risk. Not with a particular movement- we are speaking broadly. The movement performed should not matter with this philosophy. These injuries are self-caused: The way you worded this indirectly shifts blame to the movement.

The thing with Sam for me, isn't that I'm chasing him looking for specific workout advice. Sam is extremely relatable and helps cut the fear of jumping into it. I seek people more like you for strict advice. I seek people like Sam to help keep me motivated and to remember to laugh at myself.
@powerjolt7215
@powerjolt7215 9 месяцев назад
This is the best honestly. You don't need to subscribe to just one way of lifting and build your life around that. You can find useful advice everywhere and only take that advice and forget the rest. This is more of a lifestyle thing, but Andrew Tate. People hate him, because they listen to each and everything he has to say and focus their life on hating him. Instead of just taking what they want (let's say the way he can express himself) and move on with that newfound information and eventually skill. That's why I like what you said. Sam is relatable and helps you overcome your fear of trying, Dr Mike goes more in-depth and helps you get an optimal routine that helps with your form and prevent injuries. Someone like Will Tennyson (definitely recommend watching him) is more lighthearted and brings up a lot other avenues of the fitness industry that people miss. You can get athletes showing you how to train, like swimmers, javelin throwers, long distance runners, sprinters, etc. Everything is online and can help you in your journey. It's not about just learning from one perspective tho, nowadays it's much easier to reach the best results much quicker. If you put in the work to learn and then do.

I think his training does involve a type of periodization in fact. It's not so much the reps and how he does them, but if you watch his videos in total, he alters volume and intensity and even choice of exercises day to day in an autoregulatory way... He has his splits but within them he changes on the fly based on his performance. An autoregulatory periodization. He's incredibly bright for a 20 something year old. I bet he sees a lot of what is said about him. Let's hope he takes care of himself and his training evolves so those that follow him learn.

There was one I remember and it was great to see the response, reasons (even if they made no sense). Discussion is always better then one side critique. And while I'm concern you are right it turned out that in some cases people have good reason to train differently than optimal (body structure, past injuries etc). And beside all of that I'm always just curious what people they are, how they'd react to critique. Some of them look like they think they know everything but in fact they may be really open to changes and some not :)

100%. You can get equal results to the ego lifters but handle much more volume over time. You're more injury resistant, connective tissue has time to adapt. What matters is internal mechanical tension, not the weight on the bar. RP style training is applicable to natural athletes as much as enhanced. Main difference is naturals can handle lifting in the lower rep ranges because there's less of an injury concern. Mike and the enhanced crew tend to stay in higher rep ranges, and he's mentioned in the past a big reason for that is enhanced guys are more prone to tendon injuries.
@GymLeaderGeo

I appreciate your content so much Dr. Mike. I think the way you handled this review was perfect. One thing I value about Sam's contributions to the community is that his style of lifting is so different than conventional and evidence-based recommendations that individuals who stagnate in those realms may find plataeu-breaking effects by trying some of the methodologies that Sam shares. I respect Sam for that, and the benefit it could have to some members of the community. But as a 35 year old with a SLAP-tear, and chronic hamstring issues, I really appreciated your video and review of his form and methods. I most especially like that you keep the community collaborative. You didn't put Sam down, you acknowledged his strengths as both a content creator and lifter, and merely pointed out how his regimen could be scientifically more healthy. It's great info for the community while honoring his place in it. So well done, as always.

Really good point of view. It is worth acknowledging that this session might be Sam in a particular phase of his development. He may be sacrificing some form and neglecting eccentrics for more explosive and heavier weights, in order to break a plateau. Absolutely the correct advice is to prioritise form and get the most stretch out of every movement, but worth switching things up on occasion.

This was a good vid. You didn't berate him for views or cross any lines for internet drama. And you gave credit where it's due and critiqued only to benefit not just Sam but the rest of us watching. I used to lift that way with friend much stronger and like you said, younger and more energy. The sauce is ridiculously powerful and you move weight you couldn't before and you achieve it so fast you tend to get distracted by the little changes. When I had opportunities to train with friends who competed, they would use half the weight and slow me down, adjust my posture, grip etc. Once those small things were somewhat consistent, I would fail misrably and be done. That literally changed the topical 1.5hr workout to 45 min. Do you think the stretch and eccentric focus was hardly talked about 30 or 40 years ago? Every video you watched had all the great giants half repping but they had a lot of weight and did a lot of volume. But then again their range of motion on some things was a lot less due to the mass size. Look forward to your other content.
