yeah, I feel like first we had the streaming wars now we have the subscription wars. Everyone is just looking to make passive income these days from subscriptions. Because becoming “a member” of any channel basically just is a fancy way of saying you are a subscriber paying a monthly fee.
@@Ruckus45only 8,000 per month with a 10,000 sign up requirement up front. V-Shred even sent me a video where he definitely recorded it just for me! Was kind of weird how whenever he said my name he would cover his mouth and a robotic female voice would say it instead but I guess his girlfriend just wants to be involved
Vshred is def BS but I wouldn't say it's the looks purely, it's a great example of how a tight marketing campaign that preys on people's fears and validates their (excuses) for why they can't get into shape is easy money. The looks is the cherry on top since the same people that fall for this won't take advice from someone who doesn't look like a model.
As a former hungry skeleton, the number 1 reason I was able to eat "anything I wanted" was because my appetite was so low I'd only want a single slice of pizza.
Yup. If I really 'let myself go' and eat whatever/whenever, it basically amounts to an aggressive cut. The key to staying lean is apparently 'forgetting to eat anything except coffee until you get lightheaded at 2pm, then being satisfied by a cup of greek yogurt'
I was skinny my whole life and was described as someone who can eat anything and not gain weight but as soon as I started having regular breakfasts and suppers I immediately started gaining weight, pure unexplained magic.
@@Sorange_A lot of skinny skeletons (or former ones) we skip entire meals. In my case i never had breakfast (and dislike them during bulks up to these days) and 4/5 pm meals. Id have lunch (light one), and supper. BOOM
Ya I saw my friend devour most of the menu (not exaggerating) when we got Chinese one night & he's very thin, when I got to know him better found out he runs for hours cause he likes it, and skips meals all the time because it's not a priority

I fell into this a few years ago. Bought all their suppliments. Did the hiit stuff w videos. Then a couple of months later my retina seperated 3 times and I’m now nlind in tgat eye and had to be face down 24 7 for 6 weeks total in 7 mnths. Anyway, now I have a trainer and getting proper nutrition. Glad I found this RP channel.
I remember when I was 120lbs and thought I just had a CRAZY metabolism, then I started tracking my actual calories and realized I was eating under 2K calories a day.
@@andymax1 That doesn't sound physically possible, but in any case, under 1k calories per day is not healthy for someone that big. Go for a more moderate calorie deficit for actually sustainable weight loss..
@@andymax1why lie dude...there's no way anyone in the world is going to be 300lbs and gaining weight, fat or muscle from eating 1000 calories a day or less...nice troll attempt though.
same bro. plus i never really liked junk food. so i've always eaten "clean" and what i thought were good portions for my meals. but once i started keeping track of the calories in everything I realized I was way undereating.
Yeah, will admit, I clicked the add a while ago too, took his test, saw the crab crap, saw the price tag a ran away as fast as possible. Shame so many others didn't because the adds are still getting payed for, as it seems.
@kristianbasile7141 you really shouldn't even need to see someone shit on this guy to know he's full of shit. His ads are everywhere, they speak for themselves. If people are falling for this nonsense I've got a bridge to sell them.
I’ve been trying to get my health in check. Depression led to inactivity and easy meals, which are obviously unhealthy. I actually looked at vshred but was skeptical. I decided just to eat less and start slow with more activity and healthier foods. Seeing your videos pop up and watching through definitely gave me the validation for feeling skeptical. I absolutely loved every moment and learned a few things based on….ACTUAL SCIENCE. Just wanted to say thank you and that I appreciate both the information and the jokes. 💜
Yeah people just don't want to accept that you need to do difficult things like not eat anything you want and do vigorous exercise in order to see results. And even then it takes time and people just spit the dummy when they don't look like a beach model after 2 weeks.
@@HolyMith Facts! Once I become serious about getting in shape - combination of picture of myself [stomach] and my partner made a remark about my weight - I realised that I needed to stop pussying around, get motivated, get to a gym, YT gym machine guides and basic routines, show up consistently, and most importantly, cut the crap from my diet Surprise surprise that when I put the work in, cut the crap from my diet, and weighed myself regularly to track progress, I didn't become shredded overnight. However, I did make steady weight loss progress and gained muscle and definition. 2 months in and look forward to gym (a bit too much), and enjoy seeing the results in the mirror. Also feel much better, more energetic and less sluggish. No fads, no diets. Just enjoy the working out and being accountable for what I eat. I genuinely do not miss pizza or coke because I remember how I felt after eating / drinking re: bloated and sluggish
Guys, thank you for all of the kind words. We'll be making more of these videos in the future, trying our best to bring some more sense into the fitness industry. See you all for an awesome 2024! - Dr. Mike

You're awesome, Dr Mike. Great advice, funny as fuck, and backed by actual science. V Shred is a POS. Thanks for your videos helping me crush my wife's blind faith in his pills.

As someone who began training a week ago, I'm happy I found this channel two weeks ago 😂😂 I've been binging these videos before and after my workouts😂❤
Nothing makes me want to punch a wall more than hearing the first 30 seconds of a Vshred commercial that I can’t skip. “I’m going to jump in this pool” Exchange pool for traffic and now we’re getting somewhere
Mike, you slew me lol😂 with this vid. I’ve rediscovered your content recently and it’s been addictive. Love your sense of humor, as I’m also a fellow member of the tribe. Keep it up!!
I'm grateful for channels like this, which debunk bad advice and give useful, informative training guidance. I'm 3 years into lifting and nearly 35 (let's be honest - time isn't on my side for my prime years) and I don't have time to waste on bad advice which won't help me progress
I trained a guy who walked into my gym at the age of 67. He never worked out before (he’s a librarian). I won’t bore you with all his lifts, but he’s very fit by all measures except flexibility (that’s taking longer). 35 is young my friend
I’m happy that I came across this. I did fall for their bs. If I may share, about 13 years ago I weighed 203 (and I’m 5’0”) I started on the weight loss journey. I ate 4 healthy meals a day, going to the gym 5-7 days a week, I did light weights with as many reps as I could stand and cardio. I lost 84 lbs, though it took 3 years. I have gained 20 back and idk what made me think to turn to VShred to lose that weight. I keep losing and gaining back. Irritates me that I didn’t do what I was doing before that actually helped me. Thank you for your videos.
Hey! It's worth noting that we all go through some fluctuations in weight, we all go through periods in which one or another part of our life takes a backseat due to stress, changing priorities, etc. I myself am getting back into the swing of things after having a kid and having more than a couple of fitness derailing injuries, so I believe i know what you're going through. Know that you CAN do this. Believe in yourself, and put in the work and you'll get there. It's also worth saying that just because working out a certain way worked for you before doesn't mean it's going to work the same way this time- not because the science is any different, but because you may not have passion for the same type of exercise. Maybe you can find a type of exercise that suits your personality more in this phase of your life, to be a focal point a couple days a week, and lifting can be geared towards that. Some people find that starting a new sport or hobby (rock climbing, dance, rowing, fencing, Brazilian jiu jitsu, yoga) can help them focus their workouts and gain new motivation and momentum. Good luck to ya! Edit: some spelling and punctuation
@@coolestgyever531 thank you so much 😊 And good luck to you and your wellness journey! I’d love to do something other than going to the gym. Just feels like I never have time anymore. Like I love to hike but I live in a city where trails seem few and far between. Idk maybe I’m making excuses, but good advice to explore different ways to keep fit 😊
A new personal trainer and group fitness instructor, I was looking for some good channels to help me improve my knowledge (without always looking in a boring text book, I do that enough) and explain through the bullshi9t I hear day in and day out at the gym. SO many “experts” out there. I LOVE YOUR HUMOR MIXED WITH SCIENTIFIC KNOWLEDGE!! Only 10 minutes in and I had to subscribe.
V shred is just the pretty face of an mega corporation that sells a lot of bs on internet. He simply goes there, read the script and gets the money. He's a model, not a trainer. Perhaps it would be very productive to talk about the company that owns him
If Vshred slapped "science based" on his videos and then referenced a handful of poorly done studies he'd be a REAL RU-vid influencer instead of just a wooden boy.
Yeah exactly 90% of the studies are bs anyways, people think that whoever is running them actually cares about you and isn’t totally doing it for their own career and financial interest 99.999% of the time. “Oh but ma white coat and piece of paper”
Man I remember I fell for the v shred program too. I think I bought at least 10 or more of the pepper extract pills and some other garbage. Didn’t do anything for me. I ended up counting calories and lost 45lbs in a year and kept it off for the last two years.
I did “fixed” my metabolism. Basically, I have pre diabetes, and I found that the holy grail of eating food without gaining weight without having to starve myself is to stay clear of sugar, doing fasting and eating lots of protein to curve sugar cravings
Dear Dr. Mike --- I simply want to thank you for the entertainment! Love your humour and take on the whole thing, I literally heard my metabolism speeding up as I drank 2 sips of water... On a more serious note: I also want to thank you for inspiring us to have better self-discipline, exercise more, eat healthier, and lose a lot of extra weight we were carrying around. You have contributed so much to our lives in the past few months. Thank YOU! Happy New Year and wishing you and the RP team all the best!!
I was unemployed during COVID, and started working out. I had a hard time loosing fat, so I took a job as a Dog Walker. I now walk about 4 or 5 hours a day and I love what I do. I was 6'3" and 250 and chubby. I am still 6'3" obviously, but I weigh 230 and am mostly muscle and watching this channel was a BIG part of that.
You sir are hysterical. Thank you for bringing a needed punch in the face needed by an unchecked influencer world! Oh yeah your RP diet app is pretty friggin great too. I've used it since it was an email spreadsheet. My gym suggests the RP app for all clients looking to self correct their nutrition. If you're ever in Florida and plan a seminar I would love to host you. Bring Scott he's welcome too!
The v shred guy really hit hard, I had never heard someone talking about weight loss and such that made so much sense to me at the time, he gave me a lot of hope that maybe he could help me in my journey. Then I find out he’s just selling diet pills .. made me mad tbh. It sucks when someone gives u false hope. I have found out I have some thyroid issues that have caused weight gains so I’m working my way thru that and to get fit again. I’m glad this video exists .. thanks
This is the greatest RU-vid channel of all time,I absolutely love how you call bullshit on all these Insta wankers claiming to be experts on fitness and nutrition
@@HomelessShoe That's the whole point. He's a predatory grifter. To OP's point; It's really sad people fall for his grift though. He's preying on people's ignorance, but also he knows he can get money out of people who hope he will give them some magic secret that doesn't include "exercise more and eat less garbage food."
@@kingrix Sounds like he has a lot in common with the big pharma. Both love to earn money at cost of someone's well-being and neither do they genuine like to help as it means losing potential customers for their products. The rotten side of humanity at finest. Shame on them.
I ALMOST bought his program in a moment of desperation. I feel stupid saying this now, but I thought he was the only one that knew why I wasn't losing weight like 2 years ago. I had a hormonal disorder and I'm an emotional eater. I was vulnerable and I almost spent my money on him. Luckily I found support. There's NO WAY to lose weight without being in a caloric deficit. I was eating healthy, but way too much. I was exercising, but not as often, not as heavy. Consistency is key.
You'd think they'd realize it's bullshit when the tips about loosing weight or "fixing their metabolism" is things like sleep and drink water (and take a free trip down monetization lane) but I guess not o.O
As someone who actually has a slow metabolism due to other health conditions, my biggest challenge was learning to listen to my body and understand my hunger cues. I had to unlearn the habits of a lifetime of eating because it's arbitrary meal times (I wouldn't have ever told my mum I wasn't hungry!). I now only eat 2 meals a day with maybe a snack if I need it x
The only reason a person would have a "slow metabolism" is inactivity and low muscle mass. If you are obese, guaranteed, you have a high metabolism. Extra tissue has to be kept alive.
Damn I wish I had found you when my body was young enough and unbroken enough for body building, but those days are behind me and I find the rubber bands the physical therapists' make me use to rebuild the broken shit are my gym. Love your videos, I am not a Scientist/Doctor but I have my "Street PHD" in sales and marketing, and although retired I still love to watch how marketing evolves, especially the use of "Sales Funnels" to capture a larger portion of the gullible or retarded. Your breakdown's of V-Shit are world class ass smackery, yet still impart important knowledge.
The humor in your videos is really critical; I share these videos and know people will be more likely to watch and retain the information, if I can promise entertainment in the process. Congratulations on over 1 mil subscribers, well earned. This channel has taught me so much.
I'm thankful these videos exist now. I remember years ago being appalled at my friend for buying his program when I knew of so much valuable information online (which takes work). To my friend a fit guy was a fit guy and he couldn't tell the difference. He bought before I could stop him and there wasn't resources outside of "believe me bro" to show it's all a scam. Putting the sleezy marketing, stealing content, and everything else aside, my friend's experience was complete trash. He is a super skinny by nature type and needs to focus on small meals with deceptively high calories to bulk and the "custom built" diet and exercise program based on his body quiz was the same copy/paste garbage they give everyone. Low calorie and fat style with a standard workout. Every meal was lean chicken, broccoli, and rice. The exact opposite for his actually body type.
I'm ashamed to say I fell for it a few years back. It seemed to be advertised constantly and I'd ignored it for ages but in the early hours one evening during lockdown I got brainwashed and curious (just like shopping channels that we can resist until bored, overtired and under-stimulated). You're so right, the diet advice is cookie cutter one size for all.
Sir, you are a true bad ass! Thanks for standing up to these people, and being that guy most would love to be, but simply can not afford to due to the consequences that come with it. You are the motherf*** man!!!
Mike , you good sir, are a treasure. I am glad you found your way through life and now project your wisdom into a camera so that many people worldwide (myself included) can enjoy your well established knowledge and wisdom. You have my respect. And I grant that not so easily. Regards, Ray
Working out is really magical. I have a terrible time sleeping, pretty much every night, but when i went to "winter camp," I had nothing better to do than push-ups, sit-ups, pull-ups, etc... and after i went home, i continued it and i was sleeping fantastic.
I'm out here changing the rear brakes to my car while trying to listen how I can shred 70 pounds. Now you got me singing, " I can show you the world." Great show👍
Wait a minute. I’ve been watching Dr. Mike for a hot minute now and he’s always entertaining but in this video he is actually just killing it. This was actually hilarious
Just got broken up with on Christmas by someone who had me believing we’d be married. Thank god you’re still putting out quality content to keep me the tiniest bit distracted and sane.
Found this guy tonight and can’t stop watching. His intelligence and vicious humor have me hooked! Love the static noise every time he drops an F bomb. 😂❤😅🎉
The first part about not seeing these people, and what they eat all day long totally rings true with me. I can eat a rather large meal like the whole thing plus dessert and even some extra but then the rest of the day I’ll have like a bowl of oatmeal in the morning, one thing of Greek yogurt maybe a protein shake. Sometimes for breakfast I’ll have like two scrambled eggs and a slice of toast but if you saw me at a restaurant you would think how the hell do I stay relatively slim and still be able to eat so much.
The first time I saw this guy was when they were advertising a quiz you did that would find the right exercise/diet plan for you to reach your body goals. I took it because I wanted to get In shape. I had to take it twice, because no matter what you answered, if you were female, all of their workout and meal plans were focused on weight loss. I had to change my gender to men just to get options that involved maintaining or increasing weight.
The videos you’ve made where you’re cutting on V-shred are my favorites… and that’s saying a lot because you put out some good ones. Your sardonic satire tearing into these Hollywood trainers and celebs is absolutely hilarious, and it never fails to make me laugh and smile 😂
Thank you for the information. I almost got suckered into this. I had seen a commercial Dr Drew and his wife put out, promoting this V shred guy. The sad thing is having a reputable person like Dr drew, is what made me start to investigate the shred and then I found you. I'm wondering if you know anything about Meredith Svelte Crew, and her 7-minute workout regimen? I'd love to see you do something on that as well brother. Thank you so much for all your information and help.
I also get these ads. Thankfully I looked into Meredith Shirk and realized very quickly that she is an upsell program queen. If something sounds too good to be true…
In My experience hes right about heavy weights increasing motabolism. Most people dont lift correctly but when you do your muscles chew up energy repairing when your not training.
Some people can eat whatever they want simply because they only want to eat like 1,200 calories a day and so you can look like you're stuffing yourself until you're sick three meals a day and it's barely 2,200 calories. I used to have to literally force feed myself because I had no appetite and also couldn't sit still longer than about fifteen minutes. Id burn on average like 2,500 - 3,200 calories a day depending on how active I was and yet I'd get sick eating more than maybe 1,800 calories. Had to literally get told by a doctor to just drink soda or something so I'd stop losing weight. Turned out I was testosterone deficient to the pointmy 18 year old ass was probably less roided up than my menopausal grandma.
Hey Dr. Mike, I stumbled upon your video and channel and I'm totally hooked. It's packed with solid information that's actually science-based, not just bro science. Having studied kinesiology at Penn State, I have some background in the subject and I really value the work you're putting out there. Keep it up!
I haven’t laughed like this since the old school Hodge Twins gym videos 😂 Doctor Mike you are hilarious and getting better! Glad I subscribed this last month.
Having recently come back to the world of “healthy eating” after many years off (like, waaaaaaayyyyy off) the wagon, I find myself wondering how many years I spent hurting myself based on the advice of people like V-Shred. I’ve watched documentaries that tell me meat and oil and fats are evil. Plants and only plants are the way to go. I’ve seen material that says meat and meat only. I’ve seen material that says carbs in moderation. I’ve seen material that says none. Honestly, I have no idea what or who to believe anymore. But, this channel makes sense. All I know is my doctor said “lose the weight before your liver goes bad,” and if it means fasting 24 hours a day 6 days a week and eating 1 blade of grass that seventh day, then I’ll bigod do that. Because, liver failure is a painful way to die and I don’t plan on doing that shit.
Thank you for these videos!! I have wondered about this guy, I took the "free" quiz, then the 30 - to 45-minute video!!! 🙄 I never signed up, I've always had questions, and I thought it's too good to be true. And all the talking he does changed my mind about paying for anything he's selling😊
I actually bought into it forna few months and I asked for a refund. Which I did recieve. It did not work for me. Soent a fortune alright at the beginning. Lots of packages that cost alot
I've heard 2 things about drinking extra water. 1) Its a trick to prevent drinking sugary drinks. If you're drinking a lot of water, you're less likely to reach for a coke to quench your thirst. 2) It puts something in your stomach that isn't extra food. Supposedly this reduces the feeling of hunger, but I'm unable to find any literature linking extra water consumption to decreases in ghrelin levels. Best case with staying well hydrated is that you're tricking yourself into avoiding those 39 grams of added sugar per 12oz serving of coke. Wow! Super metabolism! No, you're just not consuming 300% of your daily sugar by dinner time.
I also have to point out, as someone with Type 1 Diabetes, insulin resistance plays a huge role in ability to lose weight. I was overweight (around 220lbs) by the end of High School and through the few following years and had a horribly high A1C of 11 (very life threatening), but I was depressed, so I didn't care about my health at all. Then I got professional help with my mental health and started trying to take better care of myself and have since gotten decent (not perfect yet) control of my blood sugars, (A1C is now 7, almost down to the 6 range) and with all that, my insulin resistance lowered dramatically. All of a sudden the weight started just melting off so easily and the only things I changed (aside from getting mental health help) was I started paying attention to my blood sugars, stopped eating just because I was bored and stopped eating candy/high sugar stuff. I now only eat when I need to and I also now drink water (not anything to do with the weight loss, but it most certainly does have to do with my health, since I was always very dehydrated and ended up in the hospital multiple times due to extreme dehydration)... Which leads into my next thought I wanted to add and that, while it's improving these days, probably due to social media being a bit obsessed with hydration these days, dehydration was definitely a huge issue when I was growing up and even still today for a lot of people I know. My mom, my brother, my best friend, my ex-boyfriend and I, all hardly drank any water at all growing up and now only me and my best friend have improved that, (I have no idea if my ex did or not, we don't talk anymore), but my mom and brother still only drink 1 or 2 bottles of water per day, if even that. I have to pester my mom to drink water, (she lives with me), since she hates drinking water and wants to live on coffee and she unfortunately is one of those people who thinks she doesn't need to watch her hydration levels or how much sugar she consumes since she isn't Diabetic. Which is just not true and it makes me sad that people who don't have issues like Diabetes, just ignore these things (sometimes) until it's too late. So while yes, hydration levels don't directly help with losing weight, it is still important and so I do like to remind people to drink water, even if you can't reach the levels recommended. (I was recommended to drink 4 to 5 bottles of water per day, which is very hard to do, despite the fact that I primarily drink water now, or juice only if my blood sugars go low, so I just aim for as much as I can stomach). It really does help, since I have not been hospitalized for around 5 years now and while I'm still a bit dehydrated, it's not nearly as bad as it was before, but I obviously don't attribute my weight loss to that at all lol... Oh right, (sorry for the long comment lol), I almost forgot, in regards to protein, be careful with over consumption of it if you have Kidney problems, since I have Kidney Disease and too much protein is dangerous for me, so if you have any Kidney issues, check with your doctor before adding any additional protein to your diet.
I'm so happy for you man and you should be proud of yourself for taking your health seriously and putting the work in to improve it. It's a difficult process and it only gets harder the longer you wait/put it off. I hope your mom and brother decide to change their habits by your example. Unfortunately we can want/have the best intentions for our loved ones but ultimately they have to make the decision themselves. I'm in a similar boat after having my two kids I gained about 40-50 pounds and I'm a small lady, 4'7. It took a big toll on my overall energy levels/mood as well as the ability to get out and play with my kids. The past month I've been working out consistently and doing keto and I'm starting to see some results and overall feel a lot better too. Sadly my husband is not on board with me yet and hasn't made the decision to change his lifestyle. I can't make that decision for him but I hope that after a while seeing my results, that will help motivate him before he ends up with any long term health effects.
@@jasminea.1686 Thank you and I'm happy for you too. Yeah, it's a vicious cycle in my family unfortunately, the only person who had a healthy lifestyle growing up was my nana. My brother did for a while, but then we lost our dad and he got really depressed and turned to unhealthy coping mechanisms. But almost all the adults in our family growing up ate not so healthy diets (fast food, store bought junk food, lots of candy/sweet foods) and had bad habits like smoking and heavy drinking. My aunt didn't drink or smoke though, but she did eat an unhealthy diet. She is also trying to improve her lifestyle now, due to being diagnosed with type 2 Diabetes (I have type 1) a few years ago. But it does kind of make me sad that the only reason my mom has showed any interest in changing her lifestyle is to get skinny. Like, yes, losing weight can be beneficial to health for sure, however, it's sad that to her it's about what she looks like, not what her internal health is like. At this point she's just accepted that she's going to be unhealthy and so I guess she only sees losing weight as an external, visual change. I'm excited to see clothing fit me that haven't fit me in over 10 years and to look good in the mirror. But that's not why I lost weight, I lost weight because my BMI was at a very unhealthy number. And the excess weight was causing my Kidneys to have to function harder too, which is bad, since I have Kidney disease. And I had high insulin resistance due to the excess weight, so losing weight was to make things easier on my body. I don't want my life to end way too early and I miss out on seeing my nephew and nieces grow up or never get the chance to have a family of my own. And I think that's why it's working this time around, as opposed to when I tried to change my lifestyle around the end of High school. Last time, it was solely about being beautiful and the actual health part was just a plus. Now it's reversed, it's about the health aspects now and the visual part is just a plus... Anyway, I'm talking too much lol. I hope you have a nice day/night.
I also get the feeling that the people who consume VShred's content will look at tip number one and eat "proteins" like nuts and nut butter (why anyone ever said these were good sources of protein is beyond me) and the slew of new patent "high protein" product you find at the supermarket that actually contain a ridiculous low protein/calorie ratio. God this is frustrating, and I feel bad for these people.
@@johnnamkeh1290 if I'm looking for e E.g. a protein bar or a prepackaged shake after a workout, my rule of thumb is maximum 10 calories per gram of protein.
@Renaissance Periodization I want to thank you for your videos. I think you explain health and fitness in a way a simple person can understand. Thanks for everything
When I was losing weight and doing intermittent fasting, I remember my nephew (who is thin without having to try) said “I just eat whatever I want whenever I want.” Which was true, but on questioning it turned out that what he naturally wanted to eat and drink was very similar to the IF schedule I was getting myself to learn! My wife, who was also thin without having to try, just seemed to get full quickly. …not me!
