After the wettest summer in 100 years and with two months' rain falling in the last six days, on 25 November 2012 the River Exe is in full spate as it flows over the Trews Weir Flood Relief Channel spillway, close to Exeter city centre. The cocoa-coloured water carries tons of sediment and debris on its route through the city, into the Exe estuary and beyond to the coastal waters of the English Channel.

Yikes! I didn't get to see this, but the lower 'relief channel' level seen here looks to be approx 9 feet deep, but it is also nearly 2000 feet long before it re-joins the river lower down.. Normally it's empty!
