You watch Baekhyun relax into the music. His vocals melt as it goes on. These days, he starts confident, he knows even if things go wrong he is greatly loved and greatly respected and he can own the moment, but back then the pressure must have been immense. Being a main vocalist in a SM group is no easy task.
Absolutely! You can feel their nerves and the beginning is always the hardest bit. Also Baekhyun really felt like he had a lot to prove back then (I know they all did) because he had been training for such a short period of time (along with Chen) in comparison with the others. Proving that you deserve that role must have been such a weight to bear.
Not to mention Baekhyun and Chen only had 4 months of vocal training, rest 7 months were for performance and debut training. It must be so hard getting to adjust to new vocal techniques. It was more visible in Mama era but thankfully they managed well in XOXO era.
Kpop doesn't debut groups with different excellent vocal textures like EXO anymore. Protect them at all costs, they are basically an endangered species at this point in the industry.
Ikr, the reason it took me so less time to recognize the members and their voices is because they were so different in visuals and vocals, in most groups now the voice texture of the members is similar to each other that it's hard to tell the voice apart.
Whenever some fans make excuses for subpar performances from their fave artists (in and out of kpop)…. I always think of rookie Exo… excellent from the very beginning and just kept getting unbelievably better as time went on

This video is such a trip down memory lane. From day one, they were truly incredible in their singing. It's amazing to consider all the training they did to still continue to improve and reach the level they're at now.
Suho's habit of turning to the side when he sings, in early days, was probably from someone telling him he looked funny when he opens his mouth wide for certain notes. They mention something similar with Luhan in an episode of EXO's Showtime when they're doing a holding a note contest & in a later episode they mention Luhan learned to "save his face" by turning his back to the camera~

thing about exo is they are already talented since predebut. training under SM, they polished their skills. and they never stopped training their vocals and raps even after debut. just imagine their predebut release was "WHAT IS LOVE" and their debut song is "MAMA" ???!! the calibre of those songs represent the calibre of the rookie group called EXO. they are destined for greatness and will be for a long time. Lay once told that to finalize the memberS who will be debuted under EXO name, 120 best SM trainees competed with each others for 10 weeks. every week they cut off trainees based on their performances - like vocal performance, dance,raps etc. until finally they chose 12 best of the best trainees to continue be debuted as EXO. Hence, EXO quality. it's already hard to even pass SM audition. let alone be 12 best trainees after weeks of competition? wow

Love this era so much. This era n overdose era. They came like a storm in this era. Everything they do is a trend setter and also a level marker for new group after them. I grow up in this era n this era will always b my home. Later era is good too but this will always b my top 1 n 2. I understand if other ppl dont really like xoxo era.bcoz its old n had ppl that we dont like. N i also understand if its gonna b cut short. i really love excellent singing, moreso when the singing sounds better live than the studio version. EXO is that group for me. Even as soloists, they're also top-tier. that they are also excellent dancers and incredible visuals are pleasant bonus for me. the thing is, over time idols can't always perform their old song but the songs will always be timeless. they're not just trends. Baby Don't Cry is a 10-year old song but it stil slaps.
