I'll say this: as a fan who has been an EXO-L since Monster/Lucky One, I still have trouble wrapping my head around some of the lore/theories/etc of their concept. So don't worry if it feels like there's a lot going on lol. Even their solo work can tie in, so it's a lot to try and keep track of. I think I remember seeing once that Kai said that someday he would like to put out a book that fully explains the concept, and how everything ties together. I would love to buy that if he ever gets to do it.

Oh man, you started with the most difficult part, their concept !! Here is a lot to tell and, as you said, part of it is a stretch, the fandom's way to interpret and imagine. Usualy, when a kpop group is formed, they choose the members first, then the concept and name of the group, but with EXO, everything was reversed, they had the name and the storyline first, then they started to search for the members. Interesting to mention that Suho and Kai spent years of training (4-6 years), but Chen and Baekhyun trained only 6 months, they auditioned on the same day, it was supposed to be one chosen, but they both got in, they were the last puzzle pieces missed from the group, it's like the jury saw them and instantly knew they were the ones. Surprisingly, every member has the power that suits him: Xiumin (Ice/Frost) looks distant and cold, but also delicate like a snow flake , when he's somehow challenged by a member, he can throw an freezing look that make them never mess with him , but he loves his members more than anything Suho (Water) is calm and understanding, blending with everyone and being their middle point (Suho means guardian, he's the leader though) Lay (Healing) is the most humble and innocent of all, he's like that patch you apply when you're not doing well and calm your pain instantly Baekhyun (Light) is indeed like a ray of light, always in a good mood, always bringing a smile on your face Chen (Thunder/Lightning) is just like.his power, with a voice that struck into your soul, he's the nightmare of many sound ingenieurs , hard to predict the strength of his highnotes ( he broke a few mics in his career) Chanyeol (Fire) is the most energetic and positive of all, he hardly stays still, quick like a flame D.O(Force/Strength) is very down to earth, he looks cute, but he's very serious and realistic, that kind of friend that stays a life long beside you Kai (Teleportation) is very clumsy and chaotic in real life, but when he's on stage, he becomes a totally different person, his dancing has the power to transport you in another world, with another mood and another wishes Sehun(Wind) is the youngest one, but sometimes behaves like an old man, he can be calm like a summer breeze, but also stormy, you can't control him, but he somehow has every member in the palm of his hands, the one who always manage to gather all members in one place by only a phone call
I love how you said Sehun is able to gather the members with one call referring to how they all met recently despite their busy schedules because Sehun called them 😭 They really can't say no to him no matter how many years had passed
You will see EXO wearing those numbers on their shirts in concert, and in serval of their MVs, as well as their dance practice for their new song "Cream Soda," etc. All the numbers are specially chosen by them and they all have special meaning. The reason they each chose that specific number: > Suho's number is 1 because as the leader he is No. 1 and he was the first one to be made a member of EXO. > Kris -- a former member of EXO-M (EXO's Mandarin Chinese sub-unit) that left EXO in 2014 -- his number was 00 because he was the leader of EXO-M (It was said that Suho was the mom of the group and Kris was the dad and when you combine 1 and 00 it becomes 100 or 100% complete as leaders.) > Xiumin's number is 99, which the reason is a little complicated -- 88 is morse code for XOXO, which is shorthand for hugs and kisses, or it can also mean EXO like their album title XOXO. Plus, during EXO's "Wolf" MV era in 2013, which is when the idea of those numbers was first developed, Xiumin's teaser promoting their "Wolf" comeback was the 11th teaser released, so 88+11= 99. > Luhan -- a former member of EXO-M, who left the group in 2014 -- chose number 7 because his favorite soccer player's number is 7. > Lay is 10 because he was born in October and also in Chinese there is a saying that uses the word 10 and it means perfection, so it's a play on words. > Baekhyun is 4 because 4th grade was when he started to get interested in becoming a singer. > Chen's number is 21 (Sept. 21) because it's his birth date. > Chanyeol's number is 61 because his nickname growing up was Park Chanho, who is a famous Korean basketball player, and his jersey number is 61. > D.O.'s number is 12 because it represents his birth date (Jan. 12) and it also stands for 12 members of EXO. > Tao -- a former member of EXO-M, who left the group in 2015 -- was 68 because 6+8=14 and the 14th was the date his "Wolf" MV teaser was released. > Kai's number is 88, and his reason is also a little more complex. As mentioned before, 88 stands for XOXO (hugs and kisses/EXO), which was the name of their "Wolf" album, etc. But Kai chose the number because H is the 8th letter in the English alphabet and HH stands for hip-hop, which he used to represent the fact that he is the main dancer.
One of the most intriguing thing about the EXO concept is its mystery. You have to remember that no one knows for certain, we don't even know if we ever will! Cesar Oh goes through the main theory in a way that makes absolute sense, but there are other ideas and you can have your own. It seems that this concept was central to the formation of EXO, that Lee Soo Man was building up to it and knew exactly where he wanted it to go way before the group was formed. It's totally fascinating, but the fact that it allows for EXO-L to flex their imaginations as well as encouraging and rewarding their interest in the group is amazing. I don't even care that it is ultimately just a marketing strategy, it's brilliant.
Whenever you start the member guides, pls do an updated one for Xiumin rather than the Cesar Oh one, he's done a lot since that one was made a few years ago! 😅
oooh, someone probably said it already, but Chanyeol participated in writing Gravity and With You which are D.O. and Baekhyun's power songs. Also, a lot of the stuff in the video will make sense to you if you know that EXO technically can travel through dimensions to fight the Red Force and that's why they can appear at different places with different looks, hence the connections. It will make more sense if you watch that video that explains the connection between their MVs.
I have been a fan for almost four years but have never seen these concept guides, or payed a lot of attention to the EXO lore, so I’m joining you watching them for the first time.
You guys are amazing by really putting your brains to work on the theories. I've watched the entire series and it is not for the faint of heart. The individual guides are good too, but they have done so much since then.
Exo’s concept is very interesting but the same time is very difficult! Everything that they do we have to pay attention, pausing, or seeing slowly, and many times…. We can discover many things hidden! Thanks for the reaction

lol starting with a concept guide is definitely the fastest way to get overwhelmed, confused and/or exhausted 😭 Honest recommendation: I think you should put the brakes on future episodes of this and start with the group guide, then the individual ones. They explain more than enough of the concept. This concept guide series is for the tinfoil hatters who want to riff off each other’s theories about the minute details of a very complex and non-linear storyline. If the length of the Pastelkookies guide seems like a lot, maybe consider splitting it into 2 parts? But time does fly when you’re having fun so you might not even feel that hour go by 😄

You got all the powers right and you're caught up as to that video. I'm excited you decided to start with the concept/theory vids. Not many do, they find it to be too much. Good job, I'm stoked to see the rest. BTW, the three remaining powers are still important, though the members are no longer with EXO. Time, Flight and Telekinisis. We are pretty certain that three of the remaining members have taken on those powers to keep them in play.

nothing is too early or too late in learning Exo's concept... i love seeing you all so immersed... you can enjoy listening to their music and MVs w/o analyzing but if you want to understand (coz sometimes their MVs and songs makes u go "what are they talking about?) u can always go back to their concept xD

Been a fan since 2012 and I do not care about their concept or fan theories so try not to get too overwhelmed with all the information because it can get overwhelming if ya decide to do a deep dive into it

I love the consept cz I'm a Lord of the rings and Harry Potter fan , I love Playing Sherlock , but I prefer to enjoy the music sometimes I just lost it , cz like you they messed up time and space 😂😂😂
I wouldn't really recommend this guide without first reacting to their mvs and concerts. This is too much for poor beginners like you 😂 also for their starting songs, I'd recommend to react to Exo-M versions too.
exo planet instead of planet exo. NASA use the term exo planet for any unknown planet outside of our solar system. That's where it actually comes from, it means exo are extraterrestrial creature from unknown solar system 😂
