Did you guys notice D.O. limping and dragging his leg? During the intro he injured his ankle after jumping from the table. He even missed their acceptance speech there coz he was rushed to the hospital after this performance. Went home with a clutch.. But the show must go on ❤

D.O. was quite badly injured during this performance. He injured his ankle when he dropped down from the table. He was limping throughout the performance and was hurting bad but he still got through the whole performance. He collapsed backstage. Kai said in an interview that they were surprised he collapsed as they didn't know he was injured. He had to endure the pain and keep on performing for about 11 minutes.

Still in awe with D.O's professionalism in this performance.

That's Luhan he was the Center of exo-m, leader dancer and lead vocalist and he is now a successful solo artist in China, him and Kai were the main characters in this performance

I want to say that even if I saw EXO's performance in 2012 or 2013, I would feel proud that their past was perfect

D.O. injured his right ankle in this performance and he still continued with it til the very end. Professionalism at is finest but also very sad cuz he still would've been forced to push through like the other members were 😑 either way comes to show why EXO is the master of live performances even in their beginnings.

The guy in the beginning of EXO's MAMA 2013 performance, who brings the girl out on stage, is Luhan. (He was the one with the pink hair in their "Growl" MV.) He was one of the main/lead vocalists and the center of EXO-M, who was also often recognized for his dancing. Kai and Luhan were main characters in this performance. In the beginning they danced on school desks and they were wearing fancy versions of school uniforms because, if you remember, they are supposed to be students in their "Growl" performance MV. And they are also students in their "Growl"/"Wolf" drama video that accompanies their "Growl" and "Wolf" comebacks. Just like in the MV for "Growl," the camera is supposed to represent the girl who the EXO members are competing for her attention. So, in this performance, you are supposed to imagine that the camera is the girl watching them. They are all trying to get her attention and make her fall in love with them. Which is why this performance is titled Beauty and the Beast -- EXO are the beasts who are competing for the attention of the beauty. Yes, this performance has all 12 members because Kris and Luhan didn't leave the group until 2014 and Tao didn't leave until 2015. Something to note about this performance is that if you look closely you will see D.O. is limping during most of this dance, and yet he kept on dancing despite the fact that he sprained his ankle as he jumped off his desk at the beginning of the performance. No one even knew he was injured until he went backstage after their performance and collapsed. He actually was on crutches and had a splint for a while. In the middle of the performance they remixed "Growl" and "Wolf" to make it special for this award show. The fighting scene is between Kai and Luhan because, if you watch their "Wolf" and "Growl" drama video, you will see that Kai and Luhan are competing for the attention of a girl, which this performance is sort of a continuation of that story. The drama version MV combines their two songs "Growl" and "Wolf" and it's like a mini K-drama that is more like a movie or TV show with a complete story and the members playing characters, ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-sFCvZUSnuus.html. Plus, Kai -- with the power of teleportation -- is the center of EXO-K and Luhan -- with the power of telekinesis -- is the center of EXO-M, so they were often connected within EXO's storyline back then. Then after the fight scene, you see it transition to "Wolf" where they make the iconic picture of the Tree of Life. This is also part of the original choreography for "Wolf" and it's the same as what you would have seen them doing in the MV. (This award show performance was way before they created the concert performance of "Wolf" that you saw, so this is much different than that performance.) And, just like in "Growl," they are competing for the girl's attention. So what you see in "Wolf" is that all 12 members come together to form the Tree of Life and in the middle of the song you see how they split up into EXO-K and EXO-M and each group creates their own tree. How I interpenetrate that is they are showing how the tree has now been split in half and each half of the tree represents the two halves of EXO. In the intro to EXO's debut "Mama" MVs they talk about how the Tree of Life has been split in two and each half has been hidden away. As aliens from Planet Exo, it's EXO's job to find the two halves of the Tree of Life and reunite them in order to restore peace in the world. The choreography was created to use movements that made them seem like wolves, and the moves, such as them showing their claws and bristling their backs and shaking are all things that wolves do as they compete for power and attention, etc. The wolf comes out of the forest -- as Chanyeol scratches the ground behind the Tree of Life -- in the beginning and he is stalking his prey. Their prey is the girl. Some say the "girl" that EXO is always singing about and you sometimes see in their MVs and performances, like this one, is a manifestation of the heart of the Tree of Life and that is why the members are always rescuing or protecting the girl, etc. And why all their songs are about being in love with a girl or being controlled by the power of the girl, such as in "Overdose" for example. Or how they talk about knowing they are bad news for the girl but they want her anyway and they can't help it, but in the end they know they might destroy her -- as they say in "Monster," etc. etc. It's all part of their storyline. "Wolf" was EXO's first comeback after their debut and it's part of their XOXO album and "Growl" is the lead track on their repackaged XOXO album. Both of these songs came out in 2013, so these were EXO's new songs at this time. Which is why they performed them at this award show. > The girls in white that the camera keeps panning to in the audience are Seohyun and Hyoyeon from Girls' Generation (SNSD), which are labelmates to EXO. They are EXO's older sister group and they debuted in 2007. > The guy with the yellow hair with the sunglasses, that looks like he is just too cool, is G-Dragon from BigBang, which is a YG Entertainment group, that debuted in 2006. > The guy next to GD is L from Infinite, which is a Woollim Entertainment group, that debuted in 2010. > The girls sitting next to L are members of APink, who are from Cube Entertainment, which debuted in 2011. > The guy the camera focuses on that smiles and waves at the camera is Hoya from Infinite and he is known as one of the top dancers in the industry, so I think the cameraman was hoping to get a reaction from him with EXO's dancing. > The girl at the very end who was singing along was Jung EunJi, the main vocalist of APink. They are all well known artists and seniors to EXO. (EXO debuted in 2012.) The majority of the TV viewers and the entire audience at the show would know who they are. One of the reasons why I think it looked like most of the idols they showed in the audience weren't really into the performance was because of the way this performance was designed. EXO was performing more for the cameras and the people watching them on TV at home, then they were for the audience at the award show, so there wasn't a whole lot for any of the other idols to react to. Which is why they may have looked like they weren't paying attention. I think if you were in the audience, for most of the performance all you would have seen was cameramen blocking your view of what was going on on stage. Plus, most of them also performed at the award show that night, so they might be tired after performing as well.

In this performance, which was called Beauty and the Beast, the cameraman in Growl represents the girl that Luhan and Kai (the two Centres for EXO-M and EXO-K) then fight over. They had spoof Twilight themed videos, one where Luhan gets the girl and another where Kai gets the girl, that go with them. Luhan's is supposed to go before this performance and the Kai one goes with a Melon Awards performance in the same year. That is also iconic and worth seeing. They are very cheesy and tongue in cheek, bordering on the hilarious, but so much fun. You probably know, but during this MAMA performance, D.O. badly injured his ankle when he jumped down from the desks at the start. With true professionalism, you can hardly tell.

Growl solidified their stardom as babies and was played everywhere constantly...that's why you see yellow haired GDragon in the audience looking as if "not again"...but because the album soared unexpectedly and their vocals became legendary, straight out of debut they were nominated for their first album and invited to perform. Unheard of of a rookie group. GDragon was also a contender along with other well established artists...but at the end of the night Exo won "Album of the Year", unheard of. But GDragon still took the most awards of the night. Exo continued to win "Album of the Year" the following 4 years for their following albums. And other awards as well, and many other awards shows as well. 💙🌺

Love this stage 🥰 duet of Kai and Luhansk was super expressive. Kai in that time was face and center of EXO-K, Luhan had the same positions in EXO-M. They were good friends and super popular. In China everybody tried to ship them and they gave a lot of reasons for this 😆 Very sad that Luhan left the group. He was very beautiful boy (yes not handsome, exactly beautiful)

This is probably my least favorite exo performance because it’s one of the rare ones where they’re lip syncing.. idk why they chose that, there’s plenty of performances where they’re not only live but with no backing track too. But exo needs to stick with live vocals cause they suck at lip syncing lol
