I think it's important to mention that EXO releases Winter albums, not Christmas albums. So the songs are suited for the season, not necessarily about the holiday.

100% agree. There are songs ofc that have those jingle sounds but majority definitely are just warm, cozy, feel good songs. I’m from Australia so I always listening to them in Summer.. SO TRUST ME when I say these songs are for any season 😌

It hurts me to think about how exo stopped releasing winter albums because sm stopped investing in them as much. I know it makes sense from a business standpoint but to know how happy they were to have Christmas stages in the winter and how their winter songs have become staples in South Korea, it's difficult as a fan because I want the best from them

It literally makes no sense even from a business standpoint to stop investing in exo...they are till now the most streamed sm group of 2021...and they have been in hiatus for two years. Sm is just running after new stuff and getting bigger in us. In 2020 and 2021, SM ent dropped out of big three and became a mid sized company. Tell me, which groups had the most comebacks in those 2 years? Cuz exo is in hiatus. Anyway, i didnt want to write this much but it annoys me to see 'business standpoint' mentioned as an excuse for sm mistreatment of exo.

@@user-ol3ss3wi8f but didnt a report say that both yg and sm have dropped out of big three? i mean, for me, they are still part of big three, nothing can change the fact that some of the most talented kpop groups came out of sm, and its one of the reasons kpop is this popular. but i dont think they voluntarily dropped out of being a big company.

@@usri43 I know exo is the most streamed artist on Spotify and their special ep sold 1.3 million which is insane. I was talking about how companies usually focus on the newer groups.

@@usri43 Totall agree. Universe had some of my favourite tracks of EXO and this is coming from someone who is not into ballads, especially not seasonal stuff. That album always touches my heart. And the GP received their winter releases well. I just do not understand what SM is thinking. From a business standpoint they obviously want to broaden their portfolio but no sane company would block their bestselling product? Usually you invest in retaining the success as long as possible and optimize where needed. Instead SM’s management seems to be cash grabbers looking for the next quick fix.

I think Miracles in December surprises most people because in other cultures, whether you're from North America, Europe or even Africa, Christmas songs are usually upbeat and corny and don't have much meaning beyond putting you in a good mood. In certain parts of Asia, South Korea especially, Christmas is actually a lovers holiday. People don't spend it with their families opening presents and drinking hot beverages, they go on dates, propose to their girlfriends, etc. That's why EXO tends to release ballads and love songs for Christmas. Not only does it allow them to profit from the period, but it allows them to showcase their vocals.

Our Christmas songs aren't upbeat or corny, they're melancholic and nostalgic, and I'm European. Not everyone's Christmas traditions can be reduced down to rocking around the Christmas tree and rudolph the nosed reindeer.

I laughed so hard when you kept noticing Sehun, cause same! Kai is the one usually being recognized so much for this dance practice, cause look at him. But for me, it's Sehun, in those tight jeans and black shirt, plus he's sooo tall, the way he moves so effortlessly but the effect on us is huge! Love you Caitlin! 💛

THIS IS SUCH A SURPRISE CAITLINNNNNNN!!!!! There's a running joke that the choreographer was tryna hide Baekhyun's mullet that's why he's mostly in the back during the Eve 😂 Anyways, I think Sehun and Xiumin ate the choreo up and Kyungsoo ate the song😉 And my fave song from their winter albums is def Universe. That song got me in shambles and the mv is the most beautiful thing ever. GOOD LUCK ON YOUR FINALS BTW😘

You should watch the live performance of Lightsaber coz it's the full version of it, and the Miracle in December too. All 9 sing on Lightsaber but only 3 of them act in the MV We all wished the MV was an actual movie it's sooo good The Eve is a b-side on THE WAR album (title track Ko Ko Bop) It's THAT iconic song on the album History and What Is Love are 2 pre-debut songs meaning the songs were released prior to the official group debut (debut song is MAMA) Miracles In December made us all cry ngl FYI not every song on exo's winter albums are sad ballads (especially the older albums) In general their winter albums are such a warm hug for the cold/lonely days I'd say The First Snow is probably their most famous song from these albums (it's a b-side btw) it is sooo famous that it trends in korea EVERY WINTER since release lol

I go through them one by one. 1. The Eve: legendary choreo! And the song itself is such a banger! Its a b-side from their 4th album The War, which is actually (in the repackage version) my favourite album from EXO. 2. History: it was their pre-debut song together with What is Love. They choosed so different songs to show the range that EXO can do. 3. Miracles in December: i am NOT a ballad person, but EXO ballads are something else! When Kyungsoo, Jongdae and Baekhyun get together and sing such an amazing song, i tear up. Just from their sheer vocal talent

EXO releases winter albums to thank exols each year and a portion of the sales went to charity. Their winter albums weren't meant to be promoted as a regular comeback rather just a special gift but those albums charted anyway lmao Before MID, antis were targeting EXO's vocal line for not delivering vocal based performances which was insane lol this went on until EXO dropped MID, a ballad and vocal line based title track which shut all the antis off lol not to mention, MID album carried their most popular winter song The First Snow, i think you already saw Haechan and Mark cover this with Mark playing the acoustic guitar very briefly in one of the guides.

Oh when you said self portrait as your comforting album you listen whe you are studying I thought about myself. I wasn’t even an exol when I listened to chen’s albums when I was studying but I should say if back then I knew chen’s YT channel I definitely would play those videos on repeat .
