Gan Dafna is up north. It still exists today. I needed a cry. Today a good friend of our family called and told us her husband died last night in a VA hospital in California. He was a Seabee in Vietnam. I remember him telling us they were building a bridge and the bullets were hitting the metal ding ding ping ding. He said the Army had been assigned to protect them but eventually the Marines took over for the Army and the ping ding ding of the bullets stopped. Him and his wife and two sons lived across the street from us and then they moved to California and rented their house here. We needed a fence and he busted his ass and helped us put one in, him doing most of the hard work. We shared many a meal together. Today when his wife called I didn't cry but while watching this video I started thinking that I wouldn't see my friend anymore in this life and started crying even more. It is snowing out right now. I'm staying up until 01:00 because the snow is suppose to stop then. I'll go out and clear it out then before it gets wet and think about my good friend and ask the All Mighty G-d to bless his soul.
The film is wonderful, but please read the book. I’ve lost count of the number of times I have read it, and still I cry. Also please read the book QBVII, also by Leon Uris, brilliant!
The ending? I feel too it was anticlimactic. I hated it. But there it is. You get genocided in Europe. Go to Palestine for a new start and Arabs out to get you. I just read that Jill Haworth ("Karen") passed away this past January at the age of 65. Obit just said "natural causes". Yes, the ending, the funeral scene, better get your tissues. I own the DVD of this great film. Every now and then I take out, just planning to "look" at it for a while... I've seen it so many times. Can't turn it off. It's gripping. Sure, it's a "Hollywood" portrayal of these events, but it was very well done.

Read the novel 'Exodus' as an ignorant young schoolboy. When I'd finished, I was puzzled/disturbed because I couldn't understand how anyone could could write a novel celebrating the establishment of the State of Israel, especially considering what the Nazi regime had done to Jews.
