Make sure your pension and any other form of income, will cover the living costs. Good luck finding any form of employment in Greece. Your RN background will help, but remember, life is very hard post 2009 Greece. Signing a dude born and raised in San Diego who lived in Greece for 15 years, and is now 39. With an extensive background in IT to boot. Good luck.

Greece is quite unique. Last October, in my tour around Europe, I started from Milan (Italy) and over a month traveled to Lake Como, Venice, Zurich, Lucerne, Vienna, Bratislava, (all by train), and finally flew to Athens! I spent ten days in Athens and Santorini (three nights). Greece was the highlight of my adventure last year. History, architecture, Mediterranean Sea, islands, food, and weather… ! although I’ve lived in many countries around the world, it is hard to find all these privileges in one little country. I was fortunate though to know an old friend who lives in suburbs of Athens who took me all around the wonderful local and distant attractions, peak of the mountains, Temple of Apollo, little villages, Temple of Sounion, all by his motorcycle!!! Stops at coffeehouses, Fredo, Frape… local foods, variety of fish … ouzo!!! Dangerous rides, lots of adrenaline and excitement. I’m planning to go back on regular bases, and explore Greek islands, Crete, Kos, Mykonos … there is always something to explore in Greece. “I will be back!” (From Arizona, US)
@kostapapa1989

Arizona was my favorite state when I travelled in the USA. I am Greek. I loved the red rocks in Sedona and the Grand Canyon, Monument Valley. Phoenix was hotter than Athens though !

Greetings from an American EXPAT living on Crete (born in the states but of Greek blood) been here since 2006. Kalo Ximona! No rain down here in the south but I have been seeing a lot of areas up north getting hit with heavy rains and dangerous thunderstorms. We have until the end of October before the tourist traps roll up their sidewalks and return to Athens. Germany has passed a law that can charge parents with some sort of criminal offense for keeping their children out of school to go on holiday in September after the school season starts. Plenty of tourists still down here. Wow I know it’s the dream for Greeks abroad to want to retire back in their Patritha but they will experience a rude awakening. It’s not the country they left decades ago. A lot has changed but a lot has not changed with the bureaucracy. In our youth we have no thoughts of what we will do as we retire especially for healthcare. I know Medicare does not cover expenses if we live out of states. Litter is a BIG problem anywhere we go in Greece! Many times I have seen people tossing trash out of their car. The bad thing is that there are German tourists that will toss their trash and cigarettes onto the ground. It’s upsetting because if they do that in their country they will be fined heavily. I always wonder if I were to go to Germany and litter I am sure someone will stop and fine me. I have no issues of telling them that their citizens do not respect our laws against littering so I will return the favor. In the states we refer to Caravans (British term) as travel trailers or RV's ( recreational vehicles). Don’t feel bad when you cannot find the word you want, I to have started to have a lapse in memory when it comes to my English language. Frustrating! Keep up the great work on your videos!

As an Australian Greek who visits Greece for vacations, it is really disappointing to see the amount of trash tossed anywhere in Greece. Cigarette butts everywhere, trash on the side of roads, literally everywhere. Greeks have little respect for their own environment, it's quite sad

Daniel, we really enjoy your videos. We are in the process of purchasing a house in Kefalonia and selling our home here on Martha's Vineyard -- yes -- an island off the coast of Massachusetts, USA. My wife is Greek and is working on her Greek citizenship and I will depend on her Greek language skills until I can get up to speed. Her parents are from Lesvos and we have been there a number of times. We are currently working on our D-Visa and look forward to applying for residency when we arrive in Argostólion. Like you, I have lived in a number of countries throughout my life but realized something about myself the first time I went to Greece with my wife. I was under a lot of job-related stress and couldn't believe how relaxed I felt sitting watching the boats in Mitilíni. So, about a month ago we looked at each other and said Let's do it! So we went to both Zakynthos and Kefalonia looking at houses. Fell in love with Kefalonia and made an offer on a property and it was accepted. Now the paperwork!!!! It WILL work out and we're looking forward to our new life. Thanks for the videos -- we enjoy your insights. Please keep it up.

Love your channel Daniel! I'm in a suburb of Cleveland, Ohio (for 25 years now), but grew up in a Greek-American family in New York and New Jersey. Been to Hellas many times over the decades, and I remember flying Olympic 707's and 747's from NY to Athens 'back in the day' (i'm 63). We were just at Karathona Beach a few weeks ago, and I made the mistake of going in the water with some scabs that didn't heal yet. Man, those nipping little fish came at me like mini sharks, LOL! Beautiful beach though. That hiking path you often take has stunning views! 'Na se kala file'!

Mother tongue Spanish, schooled in Dutch, speak Papiamentu and, of course English...then came Greek and that is when my brain finally collapsed. When I try speaking with my sister I go through the same exercise...and we both giggle, especially when I unknowingly use Greek, which she does not speak and politely does not ask me what I meant...So enjoy that brain fog and let's just 😂😂😂 about it. Greece is a very beautiful country, I spent time there in my college years. This whole Expat vs Immigrant thing has been weaponized by the woke brigade. It is a vastly different concept. For centuries, there have been Expats- whether it was the romantic poets like Lord Byron and Shelly in Italy & Switzerland or the Expat writers of the 20th century living in Paris & Spain- one is out of their country of birth & may or not return to it but essentially are not looking for another country. Many expats that I know will live in a country for awhile & if the country starts implementing less attractive laws, will easily move to another country. Hence, they are not tied to the country they are an expat of. An immigrant is more deeply enmeshed with the country they move to. Typically these people( Expats) source their income from other countries, so they are not an immigrant in the sense that they are putting roots down. To be real, most immigrants are trying to "better themselves" by moving to another country. Many expats are not bettering themselves on a resource basis, they may be moving to countries where their currency will afford them a different experience & potentially a more affordable lifestyle. Some do buy homes & want different services, so both of these create revenue for the country they move to. Most counties today are not looking for "poor " expats, their Golden Residency programs want people with lots of assets. If one buys into these programs, one is benefitting the country. Digital nomads seem to bother people less, since these programs are for a much shorter period of time. It's possible many of these people are far younger, so many see them as travelers versus being residents. This is just my take.

3:34 June is still ok to visit. July and August are the main months to avoid particularly as you get closer to the period between 1st and 15th of August when traditionally most Greeks have to take their holidays. For many Greeks, when they can take their summer two weeks of leave is not an option and it usually falls at that time. Which means that from mid-July until end of August it is pretty much packed anywhere you go in rural Greece. Having said that, this also works the other way around, so the first two weeks of August are probably the best time to visit Athens (because it is empty). Athens is usually not as hot in August as it is in July (unless there is some abnormal weather event) so it can be quite pleasant at that time (if there is no major forest fire in the vicinity which is always an unpleasant thing). Conversely, visiting Athens in July is simply a terrible idea as it is hellishly hot and still jam-packed with people everywhere.

Im wondering how warm it is actually during wintertime in Greece. December is shown as average temperature of 16 C with only a few raining days. Very much looking forward for your "Winter in Greece Video"

It depends where you live.There are places on the mainland where we have winters with snow and -18C every day. On my island we have a lot of rain in the winter.

Greece has a very diverse terrain. There are a lot of mountains remember so weather can vary. Coldest time is January and February where in the mountains it can go as low as -20 and in the plains or seaside areas it can vary from -5 to 10 degrees. Last winter was actually the warmest for a very long time, it was the first time we didn't have snowfall here in the Northern suburbs of Athens were I live. But the main thing is that no matter how cold it gets, it will not last very long. Mild to hot weather will be from late March to late October, mid November... Winter months can get quite cold but it will not last much...
