Join Chris Collard in Episode 2 as we inspect the chassis, axle, brakes, suspension, and steering, and set a plan of action.
Backstory:
In 1978, Mark A. Smith and a team from Jeepers Jamboree embarked on the longest overland journey to date, a full crossing of the Americas from Tierra del Fuego to Prudhoe Bay, Alaska. This included the Darien Gap, the nearly impenetrable jungle between Colombia and Panama. “Edla (short for Expedicion de las Americas) is one of the five Jeep CJ-7s that completed the trip.
We recently acquired Edla from the original family, and will be performing a bumper-to-bumper restoration. We won’t tamper with the beautiful rust, dents, and patina…our goal is to make her mechanically new, while preserving her heritage. We hope you can come along for the ride-don’t forget to hit the “subscribe” button for updates.

Edla is down in the shop now. Working on a long list of projects. Did the axles while getting ready for Jeepers (video series is playing now), which was awesome.

Following with great interest. The shape of the bottom of the body especially around the body mounts would have me leaning toward doing a body off restoration/conservation of its backside - if it was mine of course ;)

That's Collard's plan; everything from the sheetmetal down. Thanks for the feedback.

Save the WD40 for inside the distributor cap...get some good penetrating oil.

Does it have a lift or is it stock?

Hey Big Bad Jones, Collard here. It originally had Rancho shocks, but the springs were do old and worn they appeared to be stock hight. They don't make springs for the CJ anymore, so to keep it period-correct we went with Superlift springs and Ranch RS5000 shocks.
