Expend4bles Movie Review: Is It As Bad As They Say? 

The second one was the best, it perfected the mix between cheesy throwback to action greats of the past while still taking itself serious enough to keep you engaged throughout. I liked all the first 3 movies but outside of Iko and Tony Jaa I honestly don’t like the cast for this one, with Fox and 50 cent. It’s devolving away from its roots of new and old action hero’s and stars to schlockey Meg 2 territory

The first film was the best, with Stallone's direction on point and the cast living up to the "action heroes assemble" gimmick.

At this point the franchise has become expendable. What a shame, it started out fun. Anyway, at least they all got paid? 🤷‍♂️

When audiences have been exposed to the likes of the John Wick, Extraction, and The Raid, where the bar has been set so high for action choreography, simply doing a throwback to 80s style action, with a heavy dose of nostalgia, will no longer cut it. Even streaming shows like Netflix's DareDevil, and HBO's Warrior have fight choreography that surpasses anything that Stallone and crew have ever put on screen.

I just binged the first 3 films since netflix was removing them, and i have to say they are all well entertaining. If you havent seen older action films this series would not hit home for you. I am willing to see this movie but it sucks how they didnt keep the cast of the 3rd film, i liked the mixture of the old gem classics and young bloods uniting.

Just seeing the cast who are part of this is disappointing. This franchise was supposed to be the All-Star assembling of action stars from across different decades and eras. That concept is what made this franchise special to begin with.

Go see Predator. That's the original Expendables movie. ❤

Oh yeah being a kid of the 80s I definitely remember the cheesy action movies that Cannon made.

I just saw it and honestly...I hope this is the last one. The actors are too old at this point and they should've stopped at three and just let it rest in peace. I mean, technically they were old 13 years ago when the first film was released but you know what I mean. I'm not trying to be "ageist" or anything but this is like watching Mitch McConnell at the podium at this point. Just step down already. The comedy fell flat at every turn and the CGI was laughable at times. They used some kind of shitty green screen for a few locations and you can see where a chunk of the budget went. They made a digital helicopter for one scene and that crappy muzzle flash effect on the enemy's guns. The plot was pretty thin and the twist was somewhat predictable, but Jason Statham did a damn good job carrying the majority of the film on his shoulders. Overall rating 5/10

I always wanted this series to go much darker, more like the Wild Bunch with all the 80s action heroes as dinosaurs on one last morally ambiguous mission.

tbh 4 wasnt too bad lol cgi was meh but it was still fun to watch!

The first two Expendables films were the only good ones.

This isn't a Stallone Expendables film but a Statham film. ....and the difference is staggering and will definitely hurt box office and potential sequels I'm not bothered by the quality.

In other words, keep expectations low. Got it.

From everything I've heard about this film on the internet it definitely sounds like a wait for free streaming type of situation.

Wait Stallone only makes a cameo? What’s the point?

The 1980s/1990s action heroes gimmick was not as cool as we imagined it in second grade in the 1980s, but I think when Stallone, Willis, Schwarzenegger, Chuck Norris, battle Jean Claude van dame in Expendables 2; it was about as close as it was going to get to our original action stars United fantasy from childhood . It really is amazing talking about a movie concept with your classmate’s at 8 years old, and then growing up and finally seeing it come to fruition when you’re 32 years old . To me the Expendables came 20 years too late. What is also disappointing is the flat characters . The Expendables team lacks character development. They are fun flicks to put on in the background and get nostalgic, but nobody thinks they are masterpieces . It’s cool that most action leading men got a top send off before they retired, got old, sick, or died .

Fast & Furious movies is now more Expendable than Expendables movie itself

Nowhere near the standard of the previous 3 but I didn't outright hate it either (- ^ ) The CGI was the worst part of Expendables 4 and the movie had no right being in theaters with that terrible green screen.

This one did just pale on many fronts. The whole idea of the old school re-teaming or teaming for the first time is just gone (no Speakman, Seagal, Dudikof, etc) and as mentioned the over use of CGI takes you right out of the chases and fights when we realize instantly the green screen trickery. Megan Fox with shiny conditioned hair and full no dirty face make up is ridiculous. Butch up a little for the part! Some of the sequences definitely test your boundaries of belief to where it should almost be a comedy first. And the trailer…. Let’s just say that either half the scenes are not in the movie and a few give away some giant spoilers if you are watching. I love these movies to death and this had some fun sequences momentarily but the idea, spirit and action filmmaking is lacking hard in this one.

Fun fact: this movie was more fun than The Flash

They shouldn't have changed the cast. The same's cast that was on an expendable 3 should have been in it. All in all, I think expendables 3 was the best. And a lot more fighting. Harrison Ford was in his chopper shoot bullets and missiles out destroying tanks and choppers. UFC Rhonda fighting and acting was awesome.

The banter and action are great, but the cast is subpar (although the actors all seem very motivated and funny), for me, the only bad thing was the abysmal CGI, otherwise I thought it was a decent entry.

2nd film was the best sad it ended this way....

At least the hand-to-hand combat scenes were very well done.

i'm not watching this review, i just want to add a comment: i don't care if it's bad, i'm still going to watch it in theaters. none of the previous ones were objectively good anyway, imo. they're decent, satisfactory, and fun action flicks reminiscent of the 80's action films, which... let's be frank... most of them were shlocky. i think Stallone and cast always know that. they're riding on the power of nostalgia, and that's fine by me. i'm curious though how they're going to explain (if at all) the change of crew after they recruited so many new ones in the third movie. i'm expecting some continuity consistency.

Reportedly the budget is actually the same as for the previous movies. I think the movie looks quite good despite the criticism. It has less set peaces than the previous outings though.

I expected Ependables 4 to feel cheaper than the first 3. This seems like a streaming or direct to dvd sequel. I'll catch it later on when it hits home video.

Expendables 2 was the best

They definitely ruined this movie by adding megan and 50 cent into this they definitely could of picked 2 way better candidates for this movie Instead of replacing terry crews's character with 50 cent what they should do done is add Michael Jai White to it and if they going to bring a female character in this one they should of brought Ronda back or a better actress then megan fox

A Tony Jaa and Iko Uwais martial arts movie would have been beyond incredible

They’ve forgotten what the franchise is meant to be. A throwback while getting together all these action heroes in one movie together. Who cares about all these young blood characters! I hope if they make a 5th it goes back to its early days and get as many old school actors in it. Andy Garcia doesn’t count, as didn’t Kelsey Grammer as they were never action heros.. so why put them in this franchise?! I don’t get it

the money counting websites claim this is bombing horribly, so hopefully they just stop making more.

Can’t put into words how disappointed I was with this one literally first 3 where good even though they get bad reviews to but they had raw action feel to them but 4 I’d love to erase from my memory if they make 5 plz be like the first 3

I Like the Second Movie

I like the movie. Iko plays a great bad guy. Much better than Expendables 3. I hated #3

I watched and just thought it was fine. The action and writing is a little janky, the CGI is awful, but the film was a okay way to spend 90 minutes

To me Expendables 4 had a better tone than Expendables 3 but it lacked the star power of Expendables 3. It was slower paced than the others. I kinda liked it actually. The lesser tier actors actually did very well which was a pleasent suprise. Tony Jaa and Levy Tran make a hell.of a team. Its no Extraction 2 like it was advertised but it stayed within the realm of the Expendable universe. I'd watch another one if they make it.

I’m glad I looked at exactly zero reviews before watching it today. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Critics seem to think their job is find fault with everything. Go to the movie with some popcorn and have a good time.

I’m glad I didn’t see this in theaters. I would’ve rather seen equalizer 3 instead of this. Because equalizer was more fresh in 2014 and now in 2023 with Denzel Washington. Same with John wick. Because a lot of people were tired of how the writers wrote the script for expendables badly, and the fact they promised more action stars of the 80s and 90s but instead gave us no talent actors who couldn’t act their way through a paper bag. I wasn’t happy with who they casted for this except Andy Garcia because he’s been around since the 1980s with movies like the untouchables, black rain, internal affairs, godfather 3, etc. He should have been in the first one or the second or third. He was qualified for this.

Sly and Arnold + other 80s superstars made expandables fun. If they dont have much screen time that means its just another action movie.

We need Sensei Seagal in the next one lol

I didn’t expect Expendables 4 to be that bad and I thought it was going to be better than The Expendables 3. Although I like The Expendables 3, the bad reviews from Expendables 4 turned out to be worst than I expected, especially Expendables 4 had a smaller cast than the previous films with The Expendables 2 and 3 having a bigger cast.

I was so depressed when they took that movie off before I could see it on the big screen but I rented it on VUDU and just now saw it. I have to tell you it is one of the best movies I have ever seen made with Sylvester Stallone. I think it’s the best expendable movie that’s ever been. It had me on the edge of my seat and has such a great great great ending. If you wanna see a great movie, and you like the expendables, you cannot afford to miss this one. Do not listen to the far left woke critics. And I am so glad I did not listen to them and watched this fantastic excitement filled movie. I’d like to watch a movie on Friday evening to be really entertained. And I did watch it this evening on a Friday and man was I entertained. It was just knock down drag out, on the edge of your seat fabulous entertaining fun. .

I'm gonna watch this movie tonight just and only because of 50 Cent. G-Unit!!!

The crazy thing is the budget for this movie is the exact same as the last two movies lol.I know inflation is real but god damn 100 million dollar movies don’t look like how they use to .

This movies‘ budget was actually at around the same level as that of the previous films.

ill be honest here and people will disagree with me. i enjoyed the hell out of this entry. Sure the cast was minimal compared to the last one which was a good thing because you had too many in one film. The great additions to this was 50 cent and owais. Iko Owais is the modern jet li and i love his Raid films. Sure the dialogue may be corny at times but I heard worse. Especially the cgi was mediocre but that didn't ruin the whole film for me, again i seen worse. Hopefully theres an extended cut or deleted scene in the future so i can see more of the characters interaction. Anyway this was an 8/10 definitely not what people make it out to be.

This only cost slightly less than the other films actually, when adjusted for inflation. It looks NOTICEABLY worse though.

Villains in part 5 can be Daniel Craig, Christoph Waltz, Sigourny Weaver or Mila Jovovich. I think they should add new Expendables like Michelle Yeoh, Uma Thurman, Michael Jai White, John Cena, Joe Taslim, Halle Barry, Michael Keaton, and Russel Peters the comedian. I think they chose Megan fox for sex appeal b/c the B list acting was corny from her.

The movie should be called the Leftovers, 3 and 4 has lost its initial charm of 80s action actors in a point A to B shoot-what-moves movie

Stallone should do Tulsa king rather than expandable 's series.

To be honest, ol' rubberface making only a cameo is more a bonus for me as Stallone being in the other Expendables has put me off watching them. I still won't be watching this in the cinema, though. I can wait for it on streaming & then skip Stallone's bad acting scenes!

The franchise forgot it’s roots. It’s about classic action stars coming together. When rid of most of them it’s just a regular action movie. Picture an Avengers movie with only Hawkeye and Black Widow. It’d be kinda a letdown

Please don´t compare this turd with any Cannon film. Those were low budget but had a soul, passion, were fun and had real explosions and sets.

Let's face it...Sly Stallone is the main reason for the Expendables franchise...none of the Statham, Couture, Lundgren, Jaa or...oh my god🤦🏽‍♂️...1/2$...is Stallone or Schwarzenegger, Willis. the franchise was interesting because there were these 80's legends returning after years, seeing them again was a pleasure for those who lived through that era and knew them from their beginnings. Without denigrating "the talent" of the current actors actioners, they have not succeeded in replacing Sly, Arnie, Willis. and that era is definitely over. As Sly said recently...he is the last of the dinosaurs...so are we! 🤷🏽‍♂️

The CG and most of the bad acting in this were really distracting.

Meghan fox became the leader out of nowhere. That's the biggest embarrassment. Or maybe the fact her makeup is still flawless after it's all said and done. CGI was terrible and there's just NO effort in the movie at all. They are in the middle of a raging sea at one point. A little boat is getting towed off the back of the massive ship, and statham is talking to fox from the back of the ship while she is on the small boat getting towed. He is literally talking to her ad if she's stood right beside him and she can hear him no problem. The boat looks like its doing around 60mph yet she's stood perfectly still. It's pathetic.

Stallone’s character is wrecked by how this movie ends.

They needed a strong villain like the Al Pacino mentality

The only thing E4 satisfied me is it finally got back its ferocious and bloody style.

This Movie is Actually Enjoyable

The expendables movies are all silly. But at least knowing wed see all action heroes of the 80s and 90s together in one film was enough to get us interested. Van Damme and Mel Gibson were both fun as Villains. This one had nothing. The lineup was not interesting. Stallone is not even in it that much. Not that it would make a difference though. Iko Uwais is a great martial arts actor, I loved him in the raid. But as the second main bad guy? He was not even that menacing. TOny Jaa of course was in here for a bit. But in my opinion these two were not exactly the kind of guys we wanted in an expendable movie. They are great action stars, but they belong in a different era. I would have wanted to see Chow Yun Fat, Jackie Chan, or even Steven Seagal.

Giving this movie waaay too much credit. It was horrible. Horrible acting, horrible story.. all cliche… bad action scenes. What a snore!

Part 2 is the best.

First one was good, second was great, this time its just trash lol knew it was gonna be bad when I saw megan fox.

the new one looks so much like a cartoon. The CGI is rampant from the locations to the blood and knives in the fight scenes. It's just distracting. Also for some reason Megan Fox looks like plastic and her mouth is always open, (seriously even in the thumbnail for this video her mouth is open), it's weird, it's distracting. The people I watched the movie with this weekend just tore it apart. Everyone disliked the movie and thought it was goofy and cartoony. Stallone and Statham have good chemistry and are fun to watch together but it wasn't enough to save this wretched movie.
