👋 After bumping up the power on my R35 GTR from the flex fuel tuning and E85 mixture. The stock tune for the transmission wasn't really holding up too well. The $10,000 clutches slipped a little bit at higher RPM and it just didn't shift well. So in todays video I retune the transmission and fine tune some adjustments to put the 700 HP to the ground! 🏎

👁 About this video : My Nissan GTR is now running on E85 Flex Fuel and has an engine producing over 700 horsepower. The new power figures are a blast to play with, but the transmission is feeling the stress. I noticed at higher RPM in full bust the clutches are definitely slipping a bit and the gear changes don't feel to solid anymore. So I installed the Cobb TCM tune and went over the the 'Optimized Shifting LC5 VDC Off' map. This map is doing a very good job shifting better and utilizing the RPM range better. I can now drive the GTR in 'Save' mode too! Nice mode to be in and the car will upshift very soon and try and get to 6th gear sooner than other modes. In normal driving mode the car lets the gears go a bit longer and only uses 6th gear over 50 mph. So I like how I can now use the drive modes more and adjust how the car feels much better! I also adjusted the clutch torque capacity to +4 for odd and even gears. That really holds the clutches better and can put down the power! And there is no more clutching slip in high boost. I also read forums saying that +5 is also suitable for daily driving. +7 is what I'll change it to when on the racetrack and drag strip. I do notice the gear change is much more solid under full throttle! Very happy with the change!

So what Cobb transmission map are you using? Do you think the clutch pressure increase made more difference than the TCM map change?
@BrosFOURRSpeed
@BrosFOURRSpeed 3 года назад
I’m on LC5 Optimized shifting VDC Off. The adjustment for the clutch plates was a different aspect. That’s all it actually needed to not slip under the power. The actual TCM map is more for personal preference and just offering different shift logic. Not sure if the Cobb that doesn’t have TCM maps can do the clutch adjustment tho

Hey man. Love all the GTR videos. I did noticed that your BOVs are open at idle...you have the wrong spring for them, they should be closed at idle. That way, there is no dirt being potentially ingested into the engine. Otherwise, sweet video fellow GTR owner!

@Bros, do I hear your bell housing rattling when you start accelerating from at stop at ~4:12 in the vid? That juddering sound shouldn’t occur. It could also be due to the parameters you changed on touch points and clutch pressure. Be sure to perform the clutch learning process whenever you change the map. Also, the clutch touch points will set clutch drag when you are at a stop. Negative numbers will make it creep forward less when you let off the brake at idle. Positive numbers will increase creep and eventually you’ll hear the clutch dragging at a stop with the brake on. You want it to just barely creep at idle off the brake.
@BrosFOURRSpeed
@BrosFOURRSpeed 3 года назад
Actually thats normal. Been doing it since I bought it and nearly all R35 GTR's make bell housing rattle noises. These cars have a lot of drivetrain play in slow speeds. I've seen some people adjust the odd gear clutch touch point to -1 to make it smoother when at a stop. I had it on +1 to try it out, and it was annoying how I felt it pulling the car. Back at 0 now tho

At 700 hp (I assume at the wheels) are you concerned about the limits if the GR6 trans and what torque/hp they are good to? Yours being a DBA is likely good for few hundred from stock but you are at that point, do you have any concerns or thoughts about upgrading or would you wait for a trans failure to get those components beefed up as well, just curious?
@BrosFOURRSpeed
@BrosFOURRSpeed 3 года назад
I’m at the 700 HP mark. So maybe 650 WHP. The stock internals for the trans can hold like 700 WTQ. So I have some left in the stock car. From what I’ve seen when these go E85, that’s when the clutches slip a bit. So adjusting that was all I needed. But if I added meth or did bigger turbos. I’ll need to build things
