My Dad use to drive these buses on Routes 10 and 139 when he was based at Chalk Farm in the early 1990's before getting transferred to Holloway when Chalk Farm closed. Always went down on school holidays to travel around with him. Good times too

Wow, great routes an the 139 also called the Christmas Bus route because of seeing all the great decorations. They must have been great times on holidays :)

Route Masters Rule !!! I would get on the bus and just go round and round all day. I hope more people use it. The upholstery was much cleaner and fancier than in my day. Also the upstairs was for smokers so the windows 🪟 weren't clear. Used to hate having to go 🚶 upstairs if there were no seats downstairs. When ever I see these in museums I always look for 33 and 281 as they were my old routes. Have never seen one though. Memories of going on trips to Hounslow, Twickenham, Richmond and Kingston. Going to Richmond ice rink on a Saturday morning. When my secondary school moved we had to catch them as it was too long a way to cycle anymore. 🚲. The bus stop we waited at to go to school was supposedly opposite flats were Elvis Costello lived with his first wife before he got really famous. My girls 👧 school and the other girls school in the area had to join up. At one point it looked like one would have to go and that school 🏫 go to a mixed school 🏫 that was basically a boys school. One particular conducted was pro the other school. The other school was before us on the way home and sometimes deliberately go past the bus stops even though you could see the bus wasn't full. He was just nasty. If he stopped at our stops he was rude and very restrictive about letting you on. There was always a surge to get on and one time I got pushed out to the front 🙃 and was by myself in front of him. He wasn't very impressed!!!! The buses 🚌 were also paramount to the end of trips with the family and coming home 🏡 from the train 🚆 or the underground 🚇😀. There was always a sense of relief going home 🏡 on one of those buses 🚌😀. I would love to go on one again and I am sure my brother would too. I didn't know they had a route 😳 before. I am so jealous of you. The modern ones and tourist buses 🚌 maybe give you a better view because of the way the windows 🪟 are, but like you showed you got great views and photo 📷 ops.

Lesley absolutely loved that and your memories all through those buses. It's incredible what different things provoke. Funnily enough when 8m outer London now and I see a red bus I always consider that I'm in central London as you say the connection from the tube to wherever you're going! Thanks so much and I'm off to play a bit of Watching The Detectives! 🎶🎵👍😀

As a boy in the 60s my brother and I would get the 77a routemaster from Clapham Junction which would pass Vauxhall then Westminster Bridge, Whitehall, Trafalgar Square and The Strand. A great ride in itself and we would walk into the city via Fleet street which was still the home of the press!

What a fantastic route taking in those spots and yes the mighty Fleet Street press at the time, the really impressive buildings of the Express and Telegraph down there. Wonderful, thanks so much for sharing 👍😀

I so enjoyed this journey! Going around London on a good ole double decker bus. A true must on my bucket list in London! I loved the refurbished seating. It is beautiful. Also, the interior of the bus is so cheery. The stories we could hear from the years of traffic on that bus. What is the probability of my getting that exact same seat? The best seat in all of London. A perfect way to see London. It is good that people can get on the bus at will. Fabulous. Thank you for this one, Steve. A treat indeed.

I was really surprised as the only one on the bus and getting it from the start at Waterloo gives a great chance of getting that seat! 👍😀

I see this company runs T15 Route which identical to the late Heritage Route 15. Do they still have this Route A or it was closed down?
@LondonVisited
@LondonVisited 4 месяца назад
Yes still have the Route A but smaller than the T15 - which is now on my list to film - thank you! :)
@msadurski

@@LondonVisited Not really. I have just visited their website. No trace of the Route A. However they combined it with the T15.
