Take a full westbound ride on Honolulu's new Skyline train. Some call it light rail, I say it is more like a metro. The train runs every 10 minutes and is fully automated. The only drawbacks are 1) it does not go into central Honolulu yet, 2) it stops running at 7:00 pm every evening, so far. It is a great line, and I look forward to its extensions. #hawaiitrainss #skylinetrain #honolulu #hart

i noticed the trains when arriving and departing they make the same sounds as the miami metro, interesting great video and i’m from here!

They use the same AnsaldoBreda propulsion system! Interestingly, Skyline trains are technically considered light rail but are essentially full-sized trains with full-sized motors.

Imagine the money it would've generated if they built it from the Airport to Waikiki. Perfect tourist shuttle, would be actually useful, and would bring 🤑

I wish it would go to Waikiki. It is under construction with the airport station to the edge of downtown Honolulu. It may get to Ala Moana somday.

That still is the eventual end goal via extensions. Currently the only mapped out plans they have are to Ala Moana, but they are limited by funding. They have expressed that if they get the funding and political will they want to go to Waikiki. I think it will probably happen once this thing gets to Kakaako and everybody takes a chill pill about it.

They are building it from the airport to ala Moana, which is essentially waikiki... those won't be finished until the 2030s however. The first stage which is now finished is essentially useless. But once they connect the suburbs to the airport which will be done in 2025, alot more people will be riding.

Non existent service availability for the folks in between those distant stations. 😔 Makes for a great express line, but terrible local. Not very usable - frustrating actually. Suburban city planning at its finest. Thanks, William J. Levitt.

@@josephehlerif you know honolulu, you know almost no one lives in those areas lol.... mostly empty agricultural land.

@@josephehlerThe intent of the line is to connect outlying affordable housing to workplaces downtown, to get people off the roads. It’s not for local service as much of it is undeveloped land.
