On August 26-27, Lithuania hosted the second edition of the "Military Tattoo Lithuania 2023," an international festival featuring NATO military bands. Unfortunately, due to adverse weather conditions, the festival's main concert, originally scheduled for Saturday, was postponed to August
This event held special significance for the Lithuanian army as it marked the 30th anniversary of the withdrawal of the occupying Russian army from Lithuanian territory, a historic moment observed on August 31.
The Vilnius Cathedral Square served as the backdrop for a diverse repertoire presented by military orchestras from the United States of America, Italy, Latvia, Poland, Lithuania, the Netherlands, France, and Germany. Festival-goers were treated to unique performances that seamlessly combined choreography and music, along with impressive formation elements. The orchestras delighted the audience with a medley of nationally and internationally renowned compositions, captivating marches, and dynamic live displays.
The grand concert also featured the sensational "Crazy Drummers" group from Odessa, Ukraine, known for their electrifying performances at festivals worldwide. Additionally, the event showcased the talents of hip-hop music group "G&G Sindikatas," opera soloist soprano Aistė Pilibavičiūtė, multi-instrumentalist Saulius Petreikis, as well as performers Girmantė Vaitkutė and Martynas Vilius, accompanied by minstrels Aistė Bružaitė.
The tradition of Military Tattoos traces its roots back to the old saying "doe den tap toe," originally used to call soldiers back to their barracks after city entertainment. This tradition evolved into international military band festivals, often featuring dazzling light effects, which gained popularity during the world wars and spread across Europe, Asia, Africa, and the United States in the 20th century.

I understand nothing of the national anthem of Lithuania-- but the way the woman sings it sounds like it's from a cathedral.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts! Even if you don't understand the words of the Lithuanian national anthem, it's wonderful to hear that the woman's singing resonates with you. Her voice indeed has a beautiful, cathedral-like quality that adds a powerful and moving dimension to the anthem.

Nice to see the explanation of the Dutch verb ''doe den tap toe'' organically used in the `Netherlands to call the military to the barracks.

Thank you for your comment! I'm glad you appreciated the explanation of the Dutch verb "doe den tap toe." It's fascinating to see how such historical phrases are still in use today in the Netherlands.🇳🇱
