The North Carolina Zoo’s volunteer program is comprised of a diverse group of about 1,100 individuals who average 43,000 hours of service annually. Volunteers donate their time, talents, and skills augmenting and enhancing the work of Zoo staff, enabling the North Carolina Zoo to expand its scope of programs and projects. Volunteering is a commitment with a variety of meaning and rewarding benefits for service. Although most of our offerings are long-term, the Zoo also welcomes individuals to serve in time-limited opportunities during the summer months, along with small groups to participate in Single Days of Service throughout the year.
