This album is really THEE Beyoncé's album. No promotion, no one knew she was going to release it and then BOOM. The world stopped. It was a UNIQUE moment. I really like to see people's reactions when they discover the album, and your reaction is incredible as I watch. Each sound takes you into its own universe, it's crazy!
i was late to the beyhive, i joined during the lemonade era. the only way i can experience the drop was through reactions that time lol. every reaction i watched were losing their mind lmao
Also because the whole "visual album" thing was so innovative. I remember RUNNING to my computer to go find the videos. I don't think there's ever been another album release experience quite like this for me.
Interesting that you picked up on the deeper meaning on Partition. She said that it was a complete fantasy in her head during early postpartum when her life was pretty much the opposite of the song. I’ve always found the “I just wanna be the girl you like” a rather sad and poignant line because after birthing a child and being in the weeds with a newborn you really miss the feeling of being desired. And then on top of that, Jay followed the all too common trajectory of cheating on her during this very vulnerable time.
It's important to note that this was a fully visual album. So not only did she release new music, but also a music video for each song!! A fully visual album.... It was crazyyyyy.
beyoncé had a baby, did 2 theatre residencies then the super bowl then a world tour, WHILE writing, producing and recording this album AND it’s videos. then she revamped the tour to include the new material while still on the road. an insane 18 months.
This album was a cultural reset. New music Fridays was literally birthed through her doing this and surprise album/music drops are the norm now thanks to this album. Yet 10+ years later, no one still has come close to what she did by dropping a full length album WITH visuals like Bey did with self titled.
Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie (the feature on ***Flawless) is a Nigerian author who has written books on feminism, girlhood and other gender issues, for example 'Purple Hibiscus'. The spoken part in the song is her speaking. I think it's so cool, even 10 years later. What an ICONIC track and iconic lyrics.
Boots' involvement is fascinating; he was a nobody signed to Jay-Z's label and is responsible for most of the experimental production on this album. Beyonce somehow heard his work and picked some of his weirdest shit to work with, completely against the grain, then made history with it. The album is still amazing today, but its drop in 2013 while everyone else was chasing the dubstep pop trend was just wild; she expanded the borders of pop music so much with this album.
fun fact: this album has 4 hidden songs; - first half of "Haunted" is the hidden track "Ghost" - second half of "Blow" is the hidden track "Cherry" - first half of "***Flawless" is the hidden track "Bow Down" - and the first half of "Partition" is the hidden track "Yoncé", and speaking of Yoncé, another fun fact; Yoncé is acually certified Platinum, just with YT views alone. It is not available as it's own track on Spotify or anywhere else. Only on YT.
@@husamelzien5738ohh really, i kinda was questioning it when i heard the song for the first time in full recently bc i knew she had a song called Bow Down, but i thought it is it's own seperate song
4:00 "trynna fix something, but you cannot fix something you can't see, it's the soul who needs a surgery" I NEVER RECOVERED FROM THIS & WHY BEYONCÉ IT'S MY FAV ALBUM OF HERS. Pretty Hurts, Haunted, Drunk in Love, Partition, Jealous, Mine, XO, Heaven, Blue, 7/11, Flawless Remix & Ring Off are EVERYTHING TO ME
@@bperez8656 all her albums were amazing but this album set her on another level. She did a surprise release, she did it on a Friday and she did a full visual album, ppl didn’t do things like that so she changed the music industry. She also had multiple, already famous, producers all in one room working together. This album set her to a level that made her not just an amazing artist, which we already knew, high selling, record breaking but to the legendary status and best artist of our generation..
You still need to react to: Blond - Frank Ocean Ctrl - SZA ANTI - Rihanna Jaguar 1 - Victoria Monét A Seat at the Table - Solange Ventura - Anderson .Paak Shea Butter Baby - Ari Lennox Love Deluxe - Sade A MUST!!!
Did I watch this live on stream? Yes. Did I watch the uncut long recording on Patreon? Yes. Am I also watching the edited version now on RU-vid? Also yes. Love your reactions Troy! ❤️
I used to dislike Beyonce and pop in general until I heard Rocket stoned for the first time. It changed my life for some reason. It was that moment when I said: She is out of this world!!! Obsessed with her since, and it got only better and better.
such an incredible body of work that solidified beyoncé’s status as a legend. unrivaled production, stellar vocals, culture shifting lyrics, and stunning visuals. self titled is completely timeless.
I don’t know if anyone already said this but you HAVE to watch the visuals to fully appreciate how much work went into this era. in chronological order
We DID tell him on stream that he needs to watch the visuals but the mods said he would at do it later on😭 maybe he's doing a watch party for them on his patreon
Not sure if it was mentioned to you but it was NOT JUST a surprise album but a surprise VISUAL album; literally ALL THE SONGS had a music video that came out together with the album and was available at the same time! Like she shot some of the videos in public areas and no one knew?? Amazing! And then just going on iTunes and seeing it ALL covered in Beyoncé art and banners like my word!! It was such a moment. You really had to be there.
I took 1st class tickets to the comment section! This literally changed the music Industry! Know where you were when that digital dropped! I changed the world! Works stop! Carry on!
The impact of this album cannot be understated. I feel like if you watched the visual album…you would explode…had everyone questioning their sexuality. EVERYONE.
Watching Troy finally understand all the cultural references is HILARIOUS 🤣 🤣 So glad I found your channel, this is how I want my friends to react to new music with me
You clearly are such a REAL music lover. You pick up on all the nuances of this masterpiece and I love that you have not only become a Bey fan but also validate how exceptional this is from a very keen ear for music. Favorite reactor! Love you!!!
I wish I could re experience this album again… Beyoncé continuously raises the bar and changes the game. We’ll never have an artist like her again, and im so grateful I get to experience her artistry. She was put on this world to heal and entertain… TRULY the best artist living or dead in my opinion. ❤
i feel like this is beyoncé at her utmost core, both personal and professional. she's taking control over her soundscapes and it's a good feeling to ever experience.
This is content I LOVE!! Thank YOU for diving into Beyoncé’s catalogue, it’s so underrated but deserves this kind of attention to detail, appreciation in social media. It’s just so FUN and top- notch QUALITY! ❤🐝👑
I’ve been Hive for half my life. I was giggling like a little boy watching your reactions to this because this how is how all of us were on December 13th, 2013. 😭 The perfect “you just had to be there” album. Thank you for reviewing!!!!
I was there with you. When the video hit and itunes full of yonce art we didn't know what to do Cowboy Carter brought me here but his love of this album
this is my favorite beyoncé album, the moment where she went from beyonce to BEYONCÉ, I remember so vividly when she released it! the number of iconic moments that came from this and it's so much fun seeing you picking up on them. haunted is my FAVORITE songs ever, I can't listen to it a single time, it stays on repeat once I start because the various moments, WHEN THAT BEAT COMES IN AFTER THE 'what comes up ghost around'??????????? THE MF SONG
that high note at the climax in Pretty Hurts is insanely good. the album overall is a masterpiece. with Lemonade and Renaissance, i will put it as Top 3 from her discography.
The way you speak about the music beyond the lyrics and into the storytelling & production has me watching all of your videos back to back. Instant subscribe.
was not prepared to see Crissle and Franchesa Ramsey's infamous iconic clip when i clicked on this video but it was a welcome surprise and made me even more excited for your review as someone who's introduced to your content from this video. About to watch a few more videos because i love watching people who are passionate about music react to work they haven't heard/seen before~ (side note: also congrats on Crissle and Kid Fury from The Read for meeting beyonce and their overall cecred event experience mentioning for anyone that might want to know where the clip came from)
But u guys it’s really worth subbing to his Patreon or waiting up on his streams because a lot needs to be cut for his videos but he’s very funny and insightful his commentaries sometimes give music scholar yup
hey troye! my favorite thing about beyoncé self-titled is that it's a visual album, and every song has a music vid, as well as pretty hurts being my favorite song off the album! hope you're having a great 2024 so far!
First video I’m watching if yours and definitely a fan 😊 I love watching other people get just as excited about the stuff behind the voice I mean voice speaks for itself but the intricate things going on in the background 👩🏽🍳 💋 welcome to the beyhive 🫡
I need you to listen Florence and the Machine. Like nothing is same once you meet her. How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful or Ceremonials they are both amazing albums. She is a great vocalist and song writer. I feel like you might like her songs.
I live in India and the stream was very late in the night but I stayed up late and watched it. I was waiting eagerly for you to upload this on RU-vid.. THANK YOU❤ THE BEST ALBUM EVER, the album that made me a hive
Wow! Thank you so much for this Troy. I used to be a die hard Beyoncé fan in my early teens and listening to this again in my mid twenties I realize just how much impact she probably had not only on my Femininity but self-love in general. People said it first but this is THE album and this is a perfect time for the world to be exposed to it again.🐝
Yes I definitely need you to watch all the videos so you can see her vision 😌 Watching this with you makes me appreciate it even more, she fed us!!! The world literally stopped that night
WHAT A TIME TO BE ALIVE! This was so fun to watch, congrats bro!!!! Ps: I found your channel through a reaction of jon bellion’s album, and it’s been quite a journey to discover new music here and also see you vibe to my favorite projects and artists. Man you are gold!
Man, you deliver a lot of entertainment. This album along with Lemonade and Renaissance are the best. Love your channel, addicted to your reactions. Waiting for Lemonade album reaction.
this album means so much to me! because of it, I became a huge fan of bey's, which I still am after more than 10 years❤ plus, the video for "blue" was shooted in brazil, my country💚🇧🇷
I wish I was lucky to hear it again for the first time. What an experience that it was 10 years ago. The world and the way we perceive music and art changed forever after this project. I'm getting emotional while remembering the good times when this album came out. So legendary ❤
