Here we go! A solid square of 1084 and low layer damascus is twisted and manipulated for a unique pattern. Do things go wrong? Why, yes. Does persistence pay off? Stay to the very, very end to find out.

When the forge weld starts to delaminates. I use an air hose. Turn the pressure really low and it pushes the flux deep into the cracks get a good weld.

Great video! About doing twist damascus: back in the day I watched a video of Jason Knight doing twist and he had one piece of advice that I've found invaluable, and that's to forge stock round before twisting. It saves having to deal with almost all of the shuts and lost material from the square edges. Again, love the channel and keep up the great work!

I love the pattern and very dark etch. Worth an extra 8 hours, $20 of propane, metaphorical kicks in the wrinkle beans, existential crisis yelling, and delamination? Maybe it was a pain in the ass for you, but it was sure interesting to watch. I like that you show the stuff that doesnt come out perfectly too, and the amount of effort it takes even for an experienced forger, and that sometimes you can plan all you want, but shit still happens. So many forging channels dont show the less than perfect outcomes, or attempting to salvage something that has flaws or isnt picture perfect. The fact that you do, and do informative and funnt commentary along the way makes this my favorite knife forging channel on youtube

When things have all gone to shit, and you've had to re-forge cracks/do loads of extra grinding, have you ever considered masking the issue by forging the billet out to a bar again, and re-twisting? I mean, once your pattern has gone totally mental, an extra twist might look pretty decent!

How about the little odds and ends that you cut off for whatever reason, get used? Then stack and forge weld together, only folding or cutting to re-stack. Then find out what kind of a pattern emerges? I think people get a bit to crazy about perfection. Whether you call it Damascus or Pattern welding. I find it all looks very interesting. Nice video, thanx.

I have had an idea for a pattern in my head for awhile. Draw the billet to a square, cut diagonally into the corners and twist till you get a overlapping scale shape. Draw it out. Cut and restack and forge into a square and then do the scale twist again. Draw out cut restack and then do it again and then forge into a blade. Curious how it would look.
