Praise the Lord! I am from Singapore, an island on the other side of the world. I am so blessed to have found this channel. This is indeed the blessing to my many years of failure in memorizing even one chapter of my bible. Surely God is delighted with both of you. Lord Jesus loves you.😊

This was fascinating! I am new to this and have not tried a memory palace yet. I think my biggest take-away was that taking time to build a memory palace is like sharpening my axe, and that the time & effort it takes is worth it in the long run. Thank you for posting these videos!!!

Awesome interview! He’s right about allocating time to review what you’ve memorized. It can get discouraging if you set an overly ambitious goal and then forget the text because you didn’t review it.

Regarding two languages in one palace: I haven't tried it, but perhaps it's worth trying to imagine the same palace but in two versions: DAY (English) and NIGHT (Greek). Or perhaps PAST (newly built) and FUTURE (crumbling).

Great interview! I memorized 10 books of the Bible using what I think is called the rote method?? I just made up a process that worked for me without doing any research on how to memorize. I used flash cards, a memory app and handwriting the scripture from memory often. I have been hesitant to try the memory palace technique because it just sounds complicated and adds another layer of work. Although, I think I used the technique accidentally when I would recite 2 Timothy from memory on my commute. To this day, if I happen to drive that route, I can still remember what sections I said on what street! So, I loved the example of the ax sharpening. That was a great point as I think about how to keep growing in memorizing scripture and helping others. I am thinking I might try this technique!

Haha! I love how you "accidentally" used a memory palace. I think that just speaks to the power of spacial awareness in our brains. I hope you can benefit from at least giving it a try, even if you don't end up using it! If rote works for you...keep doing it!

I like the idea of having a set number of locations in each memory palace for larger passages (i.e. 50 for each location used for the Afghan vets.) This seems like a nice way of breaking down the information into manageable sizes as well as preventing skipping a location in your palace by accident. I really liked his method for constructing a memory palace too. I think I'm finally gonna take the leap and start sharpening my axe.

Nice!!! Its just another tool that u can have in ur toolbox for memory. It takes time to learn and get a hang of(sharpen the axe) but once u get it! Man game over! A buddy , An All American Footballer(not that Im saying jocks arent smart but this guy…. Anyways, he said if it wasnt for the memory techniques like the memory palace, he wouldnt have been able complete med school.

Thank you for the interview. However, I wish you would have pressed the question a bit more on how he would have approached the book of Luke. Having one image per verse is definitely a daunting thought, but if a person could somehow throw entire passes on a piece of furniture, that might make it more manageable. 🤷‍♂

Thanks for doing these videos! I really appreciate it! I wanted to comment on your question about memory palaces for larger texts. There is a way to increase the size of a memory palace exponentially. If you focus on one object (piece of furniture) in your mind such as a sofa, and choose 5 distinct places on the sofa (the top left cushion, the left armrest, the bottom left leg, the right seat cushion, the right side of the sofa), then you have five more places to memorize encoded information on just one piece of furniture. To take it even further, there is a way to link memorized objects into a chain of images. Let’s say I want to memorize this list of animals: Dog - snail - pig - jaguar - monkey - gorilla - crab - polar bear - hawk If you take an image that has encoded information (dog), you can place that image onto the top left cushion, then once that connection has been firmly made, you can then choose one distinct place on the encoded information image (the dog’s ear), and zoom into that image so it takes up the entire space in your mind’s eye. Once you have a clear vision of that part of the image, place the next encoded image (snail) onto your new spot. Once snail is connected to the dogs ear, zoom into the snail’s shell and focus on the shell in your mind’s eye. Next connect the pig to the snail’s shell. For the pig, zoom into its tail, and imagine the jaguar hanging onto the tail as though it is hanging on for dear life, and continue until you have memorized all of the information in the chain by connecting them to smaller parts of the previous data. Now, you have linked encoded images together, and you can continue doing this for several images. I have practiced linking up to 25 images using this technique, but I would advise not going any deeper than 5 to 10 images because you don’t want the chain to be too long. If you used 5 linked images for every 5 places on your furniture, you would have 125 places to memorize encoded information on one piece of furniture.

Great interview. So if we can reuse a palace after we don't need it anymore, is the goal then to be able to recall the passage without needing the memory palace?
@BibleMemoryGoal
@BibleMemoryGoal 2 года назад
I think it's really up to you. For me, I don't think I'll reuse a palace since I want to use the palace locations as a way to memorize specific chapter/verse locations. I think that reusing the palace would confuse that. But I will say that as I've gone along and the verses get moved to long-term memory, the palace serves mostly as a jump start to the memory and not something I rely on too strongly.

I love the fact he shared how he uses the memory palace to the point of even making a presentation and a book. Now my comment on memorizing anything taking too long or is too much effort is that nothing worth having comes easy and What you strive for makes you fit for the tasks at hand.

All of your content is extremely helpful and encouraging. Thank you! The most helpful tip is when he took pictures of the area of town and had someone allocate a sentence to each image. Brilliant! I start off excited and hopeful and by the second chapter of the book I am discouraged and feel incapable of completing it. Maybe I can hire Ron to help me like he is helping the other gentlemen😀?

I've been trying to use the same memory palace for two bible translations, and it is not working. Especially when the languages are too different there will be a few problems: the order of ideas will be different across translations, and therefore mnemonics won't be in the same order for both, also mnemonics can only be used for meanings and not sounds so they can be shared. Like the mnemonic of "ant" for the word "and" won't work for another language and it will just make your palace too messy.

@BibleMemoryGoal

You’re right, it does require more work up front. But studies show that the extra work extends the life of the memory. In other words, you’ll remember the text for longer.
