@TOTAL OS TODAY: You have a misconception - Google's support interval for a Chromebook starts with the date of certification of the platform as being fully compliant with Google Chrome OS, not with the date of manufacture. The platform can be used in multiple models made and sold over a period of years. Acer did this with the Chromebook R11 (CB5-132T, C738T) and Chromebook 15 (CB3-532). - Essentially Google provides a software support service contract to the manufacturer of the hardware as part of the ChromeOS licence agreement with the PC maker, that the hardware maker bundles with the Chromebook. If the maker chooses to overproduce hardware that can't be sold quickly, or not develop new models yearly, it's the maker who is setting customers up for disappointment. - Google made the End of Support date by maker and model publicly available since before 2017. It is the buyers responsibility to know what they buy before the purchase is executed. In the case of computers NO software publisher other than Google guarantees the availability of software updates or patches to defects found beyond the release of the next version. Read your Microsoft and Apple licences. All products also have support that ends with the release of some future model because it's eventually impossible to support old hardware. - If Ford were to warranty its car is in the same way that Google provides support for Chromebooks, the 2015 Ford would have warranties of "X" years starting in August of 2014, the start of Ford's model year. It wouldn't matter whether that car was immediately sold to the end user or sat on a dealer's lot for a year, the warranty would have already started. If Ford made no changes to the engine and transmission the next year, the 2016 Ford models would have a 1 year shorter warranty than the 2015 models.
Last I checked, the timer starts from when that specific model is released, I'm guessing close to manufacture date. Google has changed policy over the years but to avoid confusion I'll stick to release date to be safe :) Yes, it is buyer's responsibility. The settings will always show the expiration date to be exact.
Glad to see you are on the mend. I am also near the end of a similar tunnel and have no doubt the triple vax worked for me. LaCrOs appears to work very nicely on ACER Chromebooks. I have a 15 like you. Works fine. And I also have a 14 with a Full HD screen and that works even better. On both my ACER Chromebooks, the LaCrOs chrome logo remains the familiar YELLOW colour. One thing I have noticed is that the system can become a little unstable if it is heavily overworked. So, running LaCrOs with several tabs and running three or four windows with HD VIDEO might slow down the system or cause it to freeze up. I never noticed this prior to enabling LaCrOs. But nothing a System Restart won't fix and small price to pay for extending the life of my Chromebooks. Enjoy the vino and Cheers from the Land Down Under.
@@tostoday So LaCrOS was working fine. But in the last few weeks, it no longer receives Updates. I've now enabled the Linux Development Environment and installed Google Chrome for Linux. The Chromebook is now running the latest version of Google Chrome and continues to receive updates. The browsing experience is a smidge slower than what it was on ChromeOS. However, all my Chrome Extensions function as expected and the Chromebook continues to play audio and HD Video without any issues. The ONLY issue I have experienced is a known one. The built in WebCam no longer functions. That issue is unlikley to be resolved any time soon. Not a problem for me but should be noted. Cheers from the Land Down Under.
I did some checking after my wife's chromebook support expired and asa from January 20 2020 support increased to 8 to 8,1/2 years, before that 5 to 6 years. i think this smacks of chromebooks attempt at built in redundancy. Which all the technology at their disposal when ever a chromebook is purchased and the customer registers the product they should be sent a code via Email tied to the product serial number which when activated triggers the start of product support for the selected period for that product.
Amazon and other big box sellers constantly sell old new stock Chromebooks. Almost have to know what you are doing to buy one. Silly considering these are supposed to be consumer products.

Hard for me to believe Google sets these books up to expire and then provides a work around. It may work for a little while, but If you want security updates they can come at any time and torment you with these down loads.
I think it's to do with enough development on the popular designs like for example some micro code firmware updates for certain speculative execution processors needed to be done at one point for security. The number of firmware designs is quite high, and sometimes older hardware does not have a requirement allowing a satisfactory fix.
I am using an expired samsung chromebook 3 and I've been using the lacros browser for the last month and it works just fine. Once you restart your chromebook after you install the flags the yellow chrome icon will change to the regular chrome color logo. If you let someone use chromebook using lacros they wouldn't know the difference. I don't believe that lacros makes expired chromebooks run indefinitely because at some point the hardware will cease to function but I do think if your chromebook is well taken care of it may run for at least a few more years if lacros remains supported by Google for these expired machines. Anyone using an expired chromebook should try the lacros browser and use common sense when using the internet, the only thing that you may need to look for is web pages that are designed to slow down your browser making you feel that you have an issue when in fact that do don't. Those kinds of web pages are created by scammers overseas and often time these scams originate from India. If you come across web pages that say that you need to call a number for support do not call them. Here's what you should do. 1. Hold the power button until the chromebook turns off. 2. Turn on your chromebook and click chrome or lacros browser, you may see a little box up in the upper right corner that says that chrome shutdown unexpectedly and would you like to restore do not click it. Just click the little x inside that little blue box and all should be ok.
I would confirm you are actually running LaCrOs. The LaCrOs browser icon is a YELLOW colour and remains that way when you restart your system even from a cold boot. If you are seeing the traditional multicoloured Chrome browser icon, then perhaps you have not enabled LaCrOs as the primary browser and are still actually using Google Chrome. Afaik, it is possible to have both browsers enabled and accessible on the same system depending on the way you configure the Flags.
@@karmicselling4252 No I'm using the lacros browser and it went back to the regular multicolor chrome icon. This only happens when you make the lacros browser the primary browser. I know what I saw and I'm not using the stock chrome broswer. Don't believe me? Try it yourself. When you make the lacros brwser the primary the orginal browser his hiddem from view. If you downloaded apps from the play store using your chromebook those apps should work just fine and update, Keep in mind those apps may end support for the version of android your chromebook runs in the future. Mine for example runs on Android 9 so support for apps will be around for at least a few more years. I would install the larcros browser as suggested so you can retain a secure internet browsing expeirence. Also if you have PWA's installed thru lacros or the orginal stock chrome browser those will also update as normally. If you choose to stay with the stock chrome browser you should be ok for about maybe 6 months or year before you see websites saying you need a new version of chrome. To avoid those issues just install the lacros broswer which is just the linux version of chrome.
TOS now you are understanding what we being telling you about Chromebooks when it comes to expire support as we talked about this before and you always said "well technology changes and 5 years is enough time so just buy a new one" but now you coming to understand why people are pissed at Google for not continuing to support Chromebooks after a period of time it all about making money but why throw a perfectly good computer out the window when it can last a few more years so it is nice to see you understand this now plus TOS why use a OS that does not have the software you need therefore use something else like Linux or Windows like you doso what is the point of having a Chromebook in the first place it just does not make sense to me plus for you say everything works with Chromebook and if it does not just send it back well sorry to break your bubble but every OS out there is not perfect and there is always things that break or not work or just has bugs etc so that does not make sense to me either plus you say just use LACROS but why because Google could of just continue to support their Chromebooks but no they want more money out of you plus I think Google created LACROS to collect data from it users instead of losing it users they give their users something else to use to collect data so they make money and have your data from expire Chromebooks users LOL smart of them but I know their game but hey you do you TOS :)
@@tostoday well yes the web does collect your data but there are things you can do to make so they do not have that data sure it might not be convenient to do at times but in the long it is good because even if you have nothing to hide it does not matter you should demand privacy it just like when you go to the bathroom you close the door or take a shower you close the curtain so why not do the same when you are using the web sure it might not be 100% private because there is no such thing as 100% private but it better then no privacy at all or not caring at all because in the future you might change your mind and then care about privacy but since you just let them take your data for so many years then it just might be too late so for you to say you have nothing to hide is BS :)
