As we endure an unusually cold winter and watch energy bills soar, it's cold comfort that most Australian houses are insulated poorly and don't retain heat well.

Investors buying their second or third investment property, creating scarcity, driving up housing prices. But because they already have so much equity, the increased prices doesn't stop them from buying more, it just locks out younger people.

If banks are unable to lend more it would encourage people to sell instead of owning the whole monopoly board of Australia, instead of competing with this monopoly I have sold two houses in the past 4 months and invested all in crypto as it is compounding faster than I expected

@@carendemoya5429 I made a background check on Monroe Horcel, he is the guy I and my dad was at his conference in Maimi, good recommendation. they're starting to care because interest rates are rising. All this talk and dedication of news for property is a push for the government to help home owners to not become homeless. Just wait till October to see what the government and banks do for those currently on mortgages and the Australian dollar dropping in value.

I lived in 3 different countries and I recently moved to Australia from Canada. Right now how I feel is, I just want to go back to Canada where I can always stay warm at home in Winter. Statistics tells us that there is a serious problem with houses but no policy makers do anything about this: "less than 1% of deaths in Australia were attributable to heat, almost 7% of deaths in Australia from 1988 to 2009 were attributable to cold weather", "more people die in Australia than Sweden due to poorly insulated homes", and so forth (you can easily find articles about it on Google). Looking at the house prices, I don't think I would like to own any of these poorly insulated houses. And because of Australian poor minimum insulation requirement when houses are built, I have 0 hope that I could find the one that I would like to call home, unless I spend 100~200k for only insulation after purchasing it. Australian houses have 0 protection from this 'mild cold weather'.

Tell me about it! I’m from England and Aussies often joke about how cold and wet it must be in England over winter, but I’m way warmer there than I ever have been in Aus during winter. The houses in Aus are essentially tents! It’s shocking that they just think that’s the norm and almost like any countries doing something to make their houses warmer for the winter are making a fuss. Strange mentality, not one I particularly like.

Unbelievable that no one mentions CENTRAL HEATING. Every apartment and house in Europe and the US has built-in heaters throughout every room in the house! For over 50 years, this is not a new invention. I'm not talking about reverse air conditioning, just google images of central heating in Europe and US. It's not just about insulation and double glazing windows, it's mainly the central heating that makes homes warm. Australian homes offer the bare minimum at maximum cost- open plan (too lazy to build walls), cheap windows and other materials, and no built-in heaters. These news segments about insulation etc are just trying to make you spend more money on your home by getting insulation etc instead of actually making it a law to build houses with central heating like every other part of the modern world.

Our government Needs to take a look at the many government initiatives New Zealand government has executed successfully to improve warmth in NZ homes such as government subsidied heat pumps and insulation, including legislation regarding insulation levels. My house here in Aussie is freezing compared to my Mothers home, Nana’s home or Brothers home in New Zealand where average temperature outside is 10 degrees!!

6000 years ago, Koreans had invented floor heating coming from their cooking stove. The heat is directed to the floor and not wasted. Australia is 6000 years outdated!

In Sydney, a lot of the rental market are older houses and there’s a tendency for investors to buy run down dumps and put them straight out to market, untouched. On top of it, you have this insulation issue as well as soaring rental costs. The government really needs to tackle home buying affordability. The less of a demand for rentals will force slumlords to make an effort into renting out decent homes.

It’s because who can afford too double brick there whole house 😂 If earned enough and my bank let me get a big enough loan. I’d be feeling pretty warm but you know that’s life. I got myself a good Heater instead

@khg675bt 2 месяца назад
You don’t need to do that, put double glazed windows in and insulation behind gyprock and ceiling and you won’t need to run the heater as much sometimes at all which saves you money on your energy bill that can be redirected elsewhere like shopping or medical expenses

Double brick isn't a guarantee of comfort either - only in Australia does the idea persist that if you have double brick then additional insulation is unnecessary! Look up North American videos on insulating homes - for all the grief Americans get about policy in other areas, this is one where they do things _far_ better than Australia.
