And even then, it's still not being "conservative" with our critical resources, either. I refuse to buy Nestle or any other bottled water from stores due to their abuse of water permits across the globe. Consumers may have adapted to low flow toilets and washers and shower heads, but they still insist on having a green lawn around their in-ground swimming pools for when they come back from their country club tee time. There's algae blooms that occur every year across the Great Lakes, making the shoreline uninhabitable and decreasing the oxygen levels for fish and aquatic life, and the expensive clean up of those blooms keeps getting put off. It frightens me that people are so cavalier with their water consumption, knowing how unstable it could become in just a matter of decades. We waste A LOT, and we aren't too concerned with water quality either, because once we've sent something down the drain, it's "not our problem" anymore. Canada has a shoddy track record of preserving clean, fresh water when it conflicts with industrial production (see pulp mills in Grassy Narrows or Dryden ON, and the run-off from drilling and mining companies in Novas Scotia, Alberta, the Yukon, and NWT). Setting a price on water usage is only a small step. Trying to convince businesses that they need to take water waste management into greater consideration as part of a moral/ethical issue is more important. They seldom have much, if any, respect for the local communities that live nearby, and you're completely invisible to them if you live on a reserve. Access to safe, clean water is a right, not a privilege, and anyone who threatens that right should be charged. We Canadians don't know how good we've got it, until the rest of the world comes banging on our door for fresh water.

I’ve worked in Water Supply Management for the last 20 years, with a focus on reducing leakage which is mentioned in this video as a major part of this challenge. The messaging here that governments and society need to value water more is spot on. I would argue that it’s not a willingness to pay issue for most people, but an unwillingness to charge that is central to this problem, as politicians are always looking short term to ensure they get re-elected, and tariff increases are considered vote losing decisions. Think how much your water bill is compared to your cellphone bill for example, or even your subscription to Netflix!

Here in Australia, the daily rate is definitely more expensive than Netflix. Most Australians would live through at least one water restriction by the time they're 10 years' old and I dare say our older generations are more water-conscious than most people in the world because we live in a dry country where, in a continent 3/4 the size of USA, there are less than 10 major rivers.
@marknicol
@marknicol 4 года назад
Jules Verne you’re right that Australians have lived through a lot more water restrictions than most and also pay more than most so my point is somewhat inaccurate. To satisfy my thirst for knowledge I just did some quick research / maths: Average cost of water is around $2-4/1000 litres in Australia and consumption is somewhere around 200l/person per day. That means the average daily cost of water is around 20c / person / day. Over a 30 day month for a household of 4 people that’s $24/month. Seems you can get Netflix for less, but it also costs a lot less to get Netflix on your devices than it does to extract, treat and pump water to come out of the tap in every house 24/7.

Yaxley exactly! The problem is and always will be ‘the system’ ... people don’t realize that our entire capitalist economy, all of our laws and governments, everything that makes up our lives in civilization is designed to protect the wealthy, while covertly distracting and controlling the poor, to prevent the poor(even the middle class)from raiding into the mansions and private property of the elite, and steeling their ‘wealth’ that was given to them by US... and it is also designed to motivate the poor, working, middle class into acting out and participating in their role of ‘the system’ ... people don’t realize we live in a hierarchy... there has to be someone at the bottom, and ‘the system’ is designed to get the ones at the bottom to celebrate their enslavement... to fight for their own oppression...

In India we need to come up with lots of lakes and artificial water conservation techniques as it were used in ancient times. Like how we have reserved forest and they are to be protected no matter what, we need to have atleast one big lake or so protected in every city, state and villages of India. We have enough land for that and barring a few places India received decent amount of rain all across. I saw how people in Bangalore saw a survey which predicted it would run out of its drinking water supply by 2 decades or so and people started volunteering to claim their lakes as Bangalore was known as "The city of lakes". The point I am making is we cannot only depend on the govt to do everything as we all know governments looks for short term benefits.

Lots of restaurants with high meat diets are becoming popular in particular KFC and McDonald's which I have no idea what herbs and spices or fries demand such adoration and consumption. The Amazon rainforest is being destroyed so we have more cattle meat to feed the Brazilian and global population.

We do though, we are more than capable of using desalination to sustain our population. Israel and Saudi Arabia are proof of that. Most of us don't use desalination because it's expensive but if we were to ever run out of other sources of drinking water we would switch to desalination and other modern methods of extracting drinking water. If you don't want to have kids that's your choice but don't blame on it declining drinking water.

The world could solve all of its energy and water problems if countries adopted the energy policy of France and water policy of Israel.

I read somedays back that India exports 10 trillion litre of water when it exports million tonnes of Basmati rice. 1kg of rice requires around 5000kg of water. That's why there is thinking that in future millets will be mainstream crop. It requires around 1500kg of water to produce 1kg of Millets and is super healthy grain. Also can grow in much extreme conditions and is less susceptible to climate change. Millet will be future crop.

OMFG!!! Reading through the comments here, and it’s sickening and disturbing how unintelligent humanity truly is. WAKE UP!!! Have you not realized that you are all just victims of government propaganda social engineering tactics that have programmed you to believe everything you know to be true?????? WE WILL NEVER RUN OUT OF WATER. WATER IS A NATURAL RENEWABLE RESOURCE, and the only reason for people to die of dehydration is the ignorance of the people, and most importantly, THE PSYCHOPATHS THAT YOU ACTUALLY BELIEVE CARE ABOUT YOU. Did you not catch the beginning which stated “water is located deep within the earth, but very expensive to access??” Maybe you should critical think about that for a minute or hours or years!!!! Instead of relying on your education from hearsay, maybe you should use the brain you’ve been given for its purpose, as well as learn to read and do your own research, so you can start to re-educate yourself on what the truth is and what is really going on since your birth. Your trusted education system, which I read in the comments, you wished was taught in your classroom, IS THE ENTIRE REASON WHY YOU HAVE AND ARE COMPLETELY BRAINWASHED! This propaganda is what is being taught in our classrooms today, along with more than I have I have the words to even explain!!! Let me guess, you wear a mask and believe there is a virus...when if you LEARNED TO READ you would understand the germ theory is a fraud. A complete and utter lie. YOU CANNOT CATCH A VIRUS. IT ISNT ALIVE. Your so called trusted health care providers, are poisoning you all, but most actually believe they are saving your lives, because they payed hundreds of thousands of dollars to become a “doctor,” to be “indoctrinated” with books written by none other than the Rockefeller’s. This rant most likely will not make sense to you, as there is far too much to ever explain to anyone, because EVERYTHING YOU KNOW IS A LIE. NO EXAGGERATION. What’s to come very soon, will make the Holocaust look like a picnic, and that is being said lightly. Ignorance is a choice, and there is no excuse when living in a world where information is literally in your hands. WAKE UP SHEEP!!!! 💔💙🙏🏻
@fulloffool5925

@@jenniferconnell7730 Why would they lie to us? What would they gain by lying about Water resources if the water is renewable energy? China took part of my country and exactly that part which are full of water resources. Now it’s trying to take some parts of India too. I’ve seen ppl bringing water from 5-8 km. I’ve walked like 1-2 hrs and waited hours in quee every day to have drinking water. Ppl use to fill lots of gallons with drinking waters because it was available only certain times in day. I’ve seen rivers drying which was once place where i use to take bath. These are the things I’ve experienced first hand. I was not born in privileged western countries where drinking waters are 24/7 available and are just few steps away from their bedrooms. Now,let’s talk about Virus. If you think virus are dead and not spreadable then talk to ppl who have HIV. Even commom cold is virus that’s why it spreads from ppl to ppl. Have you not ever caught commom cold just because one of your family members had common cold? Yes, i do wear a mask. Government asks us to wear it only in public places and that’s ok for me. At first i was skeptic too. Me and my friends use to make fun saying lots of ppl die due to alcoholism or cigarettes or accidents but less dies of Corona and we didn’t knew anyone that was infected and obviously we thought it’s just propaganda But once i saw the person i knew personally was in hospital due to Corona and sadly passed away,at that time i thought it’s better to be safe than sorry. Btw, my country doesn’t charge for healthcare. It’s the country with free health care services and free education. So don’t know about Doctors doing fraud. I’ve lived in lots of countries and experienced lots of things. I don’t have to do research nor re-educate myself because all the things i have talked about are based on my personal experience. Nothing like ignorance but hard facts that I’ve experienced. Yes informations are in our hands these days but Believing everything what‘s on Internet is how you get brainwashed. So,i think you are brainwashed,actually! You are most welcome to say your pov. It would be interesting to talk to you.
