@@greggkaufman4795 absolutely and unreservedly "YES" YubiKey meshes with The BRAVE Browser. Nice choice for secure browsing Gregg ! [EDIT] @gregg kaufman during the initial YubiKey "Set Up" many Password Managers will allow you to SPECIFICALLY setup your YubiKey to securely and seamlessly work with The BRAVE Browser's enhanced personal privacy and security features.
I usually don't hit like or dislike but in this case I have you a thumbs-up. I've had my yubikeys for some months now and it's nice to see more in depth info available from the net. The videos are just the right length to accurately detail the info without being boring. So good job, keep up the good work. 👍
I am not an IT or computer guy in any shape, form, or fashion. I purchased a subscription to LastPass because it was rated as the best password manager and purchased a Yubico key because I thought it was cool. I had no idea the two systems could be used in tandem. Little did I know what I was getting into. The Yubico key came with zero instructions and LastPass has more options than a Boeing 747. I had to figure both systems out on my own from square one. I am still in awe I was able to accomplish everything you demonstrated in your video on my own. I wish I had seen this video before embarking on my password management journey. Even though I was able to figure both systems out and both are now operational for me, I feel sure I am not getting full use of the capabilities of either system. I cannot wait to see your subsequent videos on these two systems.
thank you very much I appreciate your comments. I created these videos because like you I could find nothing on the internet and as you said it comes with zero instructions. I will be adding more so be sure to subscribe so that you get them as soon as they are ready. Here is the link for the videos in this series with more to come - ru-vid.com/group/PLdzwqm9EIP87Tjkb0C7xyaNGyX7tRz8JL
Thank you. I have only just found your site and I am really impressed with your explanation of Yubikey. I have looked at and listened to many other sites on RU-vid but have left feeling unsure of what to do. You have simplified everything to a point that I am able to understand it without scratching my head. I have had my keys for around 12 months now but feel that I will be able to set up and use them easily. Once again, many thanks.😀😀
The first VDO - I've whatched about 7 already - that actually worth every minute spent. Thank you so much for showing the screen and each step for set up, the safety advice, explaining weaknesses and stenghts. It was really the best of all I've seen.
Thank you very much I made the video because I couldn't find anything that explained it for me so I had hoped to just share the wealth it is probably the most popular video on my channel and to this day people still enjoy it and I'm happy thank you very much for your support
Very important topic, as Yubico themselves doesn't have detailed enough setting up tutorials, your long / detailed videos are very much appreciated ! Waiting for your part 2! Thanks
This content is so appreciated !!! Incredibly applicable in our digital interactions !! You've framed it in a methodical, thoughtful and sensible way ! You've made it easy to process and implement. This series of videos really encourages a security mindset. Awesome content : )
I am from the future and I find this very useful. The information was well paced and gradually added more details in a natural progression. The information has affected my current plan in a positive way.
As you are from the future then you already know its been reported that Google's two-factor authentication can be breached and that the only secure method appears to be using a security key ( technomad.link/39greLb ) I don't wish to create a temporal Paradox, however if there are subjects that you think I should cover that will be helpful in the future it would be good to know, please let me know.
Internet security videos like these should be required viewing for everyone. Thanks for the good work, you've convinced me to get yubikeys and get LastPass.
+thewatcher great to hear it I'm just finishing the final touches on pot to where I show how you can use one of the built-in features of the yubikey as a quick-and-dirty password creator
Great video from every aspect. Your speaking (no filler words), pacing, and overall presentation is excellent. You definitely have the talent to reach 10x as many views.
Great video. Have been a LastPass user for a few years now and wanted to learn more about Yubikey. Just ordered three y-5's and going to give it a go. Kudos to THTN for spooning this complex subject into easy to understand portions.
thank you for the kind words it's really helpful to know that people appreciate this stuff I'm also working on an additional video to show you how to integrate it with your computer to use it unlock your computer and a special project to use it with other devices around your house for example your alarm system so that it is truly a security key for your life. Let me know if you run into any issues happy to help
Just right on the length of this clip. Thank you for your easy to understand explanations. I have waited to implement a password manager/two factor solution to secure my personal protection to the max. Have not taken the jump yet. Looking at all your clips put in the past Steve Gibson of Security Now has suggested LastPass as he uses this.
Your suggestion that one acquire 3 at keys is exactly what I needed to learn. Thank you. I had been terrified of what would happen if and when I lost my key. The answer is have more. :-)
Great video, just the right level of explanation - very well done. Very professional, easy to listen to, great logical steps. I’ve been meaning to get my YubiKey 4’s connected, but now I see I’ve waited too long and a YubiKey 5 is available. I can’t wait to see part 2. Thank you very much!
Very clear and concise tutorial. To the point. No frills and waffle. Best of all, saved me a tome of time evaluating and experimenting. Thanks. Subscribed & liked.
Thank you very much....part 2 coming soon, 19 minutes and an important but dry subject...kinda of a chance, but its important, so yes I am happy at least 1 person likes it!!!!
Sterling job! I thought your delivery style was very clear, well-paced, and the information rock solid. It made me want to get a bundle of Yubikeys to test things out.
You pointed out your personalised Google ads (14:26) and said that this is why we have to take these steps but if you don't want personalised ads you need to go into your google account and disable the option to listen to your speech, not enable 2FA. Google.com --> Settings (bottom right) --> Your data in search --> Disable Voice and audio recordings
I'm really glad I found your channel. I've been looking for added security and came across the youbi key. Thanks for sharing how to do it once again I really appreciate it. I look forward to watching more informative videos from you. Thank you
Yes my friend thanks for checking, RU-vid'wise - I had hit a writter block until today - on a personal note and friend needed a liver transplant and bunch on that, he got it and is now on the mend. I am also setting up a contest! We have a vendor donate a bunch of stuff for prizes, then RU-vid changed what you can and can't do in a contest, then they also changed the rules on copyright due to article 13 in the EU so we;ve had to adjust, I on my way to vegas and just finished planning my stops in Europe for June and July...whew...really makes me feel good to know my present was missed...more good stuff coming soon! Thank for checking in!
Great video. I already use LastPass but I'm going to get a couple of YubiKeys (one for my PC and another for my phone) based on what you have illustrated here. It looks to be a great system which will keep me safe from hackers.
crystal clear and I just paid for both Yubikey and LastPass, just one suggestion, the sub-title option in Traditional Chinese please, simplify chinese is just a joke.
I followed your lead and changed all of my passwords to pa$$word and will eventually be adding the 2fa when I get around to getting the yubikey. Thanks!
You're quite welcome you may also want to check out the new yubikey that supports biometrics meaning that only you can use that particular yubikey it adds an even higher level of security
Yes, this is the type of video I would like to see. I bought some of these, but have not used them yet because I want to understand them completely before I start locking things down.
... Happy I found TheHiTechNomad ....I have had a Yubikey for a while, looking for a simplified explanation, to avoid extra stress from messing up. ((At the 12:36m point you could mention to press or touch the key....just for the super non techies!!)) I help non techie 60+ age range with computers.. will send them here. ) Thank you teacher!
Yes you can remove your phone from your account but make sure that you have a copy of the backup passwords print it out and put it someplace safe in case you happen to lose all your keys or something.
Awesome video! Just got my Yubikeys yesterday (yes bought two) and have been looking for information to employ them effectively. Thank you so much for your great content!
Sir, hats off to you for the great video.. really enjoyed the relaxed pace and voice with which you're explaining things.. am gonna order the yubikeys today and sign up for last pass... thanks again 🙂
Thank you for your support we just ordered the newest yubikey that not only allows you to use it as a USB key but also has a dedicated fingerprint reader will be posting a video on that one soon.
Thank you very much! They now offer a security key with a built in fingerprint reader I just did a review on the product here - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-IhqhkjiJCDQ.html
That was awesome. Thank you! No one has ever showed me these things or explained it in such detail. I appreciate the fact that your words were down at the Bottom of my screen. This was so easy to understand. Great job!
Thank you very much for the kind words I really appreciate it there's a lot of technology out there that I think that people can benefit from if it was just explained in a way that people could understand it and figure out how to fit it into their lives which is what we're trying to do with this channel again thank you very much!
Thank you for making this video. I'm a long time yubico/yubikey fan and don't need an intro video for myself but this is great for getting others turned on to the yubikey and better account security in general - something I'm all for.
+Killer2600 thank you what you start to get into it you'll start to see which websites care about security and which ones don't I'm surprised how many bank and credit card website do little or nothing to protect your account
What's more surprising is Paypal is a member of FIDO and the only 2FA they offer (in the USA, other countries may vary) is the NIST deprecated SMS texted 6 digit code. It totally baffles me how they don't universally support FIDO U2F or anything better than SMS text when they are a founding member of FIDO.
That is one of the reasons I made this video. To show that many of these web sites are not taking adequate measures to protect people's information. Its on us, but once you get into goo habits its easier and safer.
Great Video, Sir! I already have Lastpass and this will make it even better, gotta get me some keys, my wife is always complaining about the hassles of signing into most of our webpages, and neither of us is very tech savvy... Thanks Again
you are quite welcome if you run into any issues or have any additional questions please do not hesitate to send me an email. questions@thehitechnomad.com
You're very welcome I'm glad you enjoyed. If you are a subscriber you will be notified of upcoming videos including a review for the new yubikey that has a fingerprint reader!
I've subscribed and liked and can't wait for as much information about the Yubikey 5.0 as you can make. I have the Yubikey 5.0 NFC and don't have a clue how to use it!!!! The promotional videos say that it's easy to use; But I dis-agree. Your videos will certainly change that. Thank you............
Nice video, I've sent this to a friend that I've suggested to use Yubikey and LastPass. BTW, I've been using both for a number of years now and totally recommend Yubikey and LastPass.
@@TheHiTechNomad once I added the key to my account, I was done. I'm fairly tech savvy, so for me, it was a no brainer. I have since added Yubikeys to other security login's
This is very informative and to the point. You stayed focused on the subject and now I'm a subscriber. I don't care for rambling talkers when I just want to know about the subject. I thank you and I would love to know if you can pull information about how to stop keyloggers. I just got my Mac pro hacked for the second time and I'm really ready to fight! So help me put on the boxing gloves please! Thank you and I enjoyed your video.
Apologies for the delay apparently there were a bunch of comments that never got shown to me until just now. thank you very much for the kind words and how are you doing with your key?
I appreciate the videos, and no, you don’t have to make them shorter. I watch them as you go into depth which is what we need to understand it. I have questions: 1) I bought 2 yubikey 5 NSD 2) outlook live was tested first ad worked fine after it asked to create code 3) added 2nd and was fine 4) tried google, failed 5) tried in chrome, failed with endless spinning until it gave a message stating it needed to be plugged in 6) restarted computer, gmail failed again to sync with same errors 7) I have never found anything that explains how many emails you can apply 8) I haven’t found anything that wipes the whole thing to start from scratch or updates that don’t require intense DOS style script for each “applet” where directions are difficult to follow 9) support to LastPass and yubico has been sent and have gotten zero responses 10) how far am I off? Is it a software thing? I saw a video where the thickness of the usb section varied and could be part of the problem, no? Thanks in advance.
@MysteryFan I resolve d everything since then. Bottom line, is just use the key on "chrome" and not other browsers when setting up. That resolved the issue. Also, when you are setting up and it's asking you to approve it, it won't show except for a tab in the upper left corner. Don't see it? Then just open another tab in the same browser and go back to the same tab. You'll see it asked to "allow" and your golden. Don't hesitate and just do it. Other browsers for outlook, Hotmail, etc work and don't matter.just remember, buy two, and you can always get in of a key acts up. So far, it's fine. Get them, you'll be GLAD you did.
Waiting for part TWO. I have used LastPass for years [a long time]. I teach a class on the subject for Senior Citizens [difficult] and Facebook [they keep changing their options almost weekly]!. I have 4 keys now, not sure if I want to purchase another one. Desktop, Laptop, Keychain, and one extra in case one gets lost
sorry for the miscommunication . I meant to say I had no problem sitting though the Tutorial. Thanks for the info keep up the good work. Then sorry for the misunderstanding I really need to start proof reading my posts.
no problem, until I get to 10,000 subscribers it's a little tough to keep in contact with everyone so any comment I get is very much appreciated thank you
Excellent video! I started using a password manager & Yubikey combination about a year ago so I'm already versed with that. However, that's as far as I personally know on how to secure my digital life. My family & friends are resisting my efforts to get them on board. Most of them only use their cellphones & they find the whole process intimidating & cumbersome. I would like to see a video of how to simplify the incorporations & use of a password manager & Yubikey on a cell phone.
For sites that only have sms 2fa you can put in a google voice number. That would protect you from a sim swap attack since the number is tied to your google account which is now protected by a Yubikey.
Yay! I finally started using a password manager. At the time that I started, LastPass was one of the few that worked with Chromebooks. My wife has trouble using it so I wanted to add Yubico to the mix. I bought 3 keys, but hesitated to start using them with LastPass since I didn't want to F things up. Very useful info. Thanks.
what part is she having trouble with for example some have trouble putting it in the unit and for one of my clients I purchased an NFC card reader and put it on the desk so all they have to do when they get to work is throw their keys on the card
If you use Brave browser then those taking ads won't pop up. Oh, and it's written in chrome so all extensions work including LastPass. Also an app for it! Could be your next video. Nice choice of security products here. Thanks
You very welcome. I am in the processing of editing a video on the new Yubikey 5C NFC which can be used on everything (iphones, android, pc, mac, etc) - I will be posting, this week. If you have subscribed and clicked the bell you be notified as soon as its posted.
Since I'm more concerned about hackers and people on the internet then inside of my own home or office, I have (nano versions) of the security key that I leave in my Chromebook. Its super small and doesn't get in the way. It's much better than having the key sticking out of the side of the USB port and lot less prone to accidents. I keep that standard key around my neck or keychain to take with me when I go out but the nano one lives in that USB port.
They just passed a law in Australia mandating that all service providers need to give big brother back door access into your account on demand. Id also be willing to bet that there is some similar deal with NSA and these kinds of products. I don't expect that they would ever admit it.
TheHiTechNomad I have just bought 4 security keys: 2 plain and 2 NFC’s. 2 for me and 2 for my wife. Received them yesterday and still figuring out how they work. Have added them to Google and Bitwarden. Thanks for your informative videos! Will probably buy a YubiKey 5 in the near future
Thank you very much. I make these videos you never know how they're going to be received I am actually preparing a new one on how to get started using yubikeys and security hope you enjoy that one as well.
Wasn't even aware of these until now. Great and informative vid. Quick question though. I'm guessing that in order to secure your account with ANY website, you must log in/out each time? I suppose the 'remember me' setting is a risk in case your laptop gets stolen. But it appears that login is pretty quick easy with the key. I'll have to go back and review about phone login
I'm glad you enjoying it still relevant however there have been several advancements since I first made that video if you're a subscriber you'll be notified of the new video that I'll be posting sometime in the next 2 to 3 weeks and has to do with the different types of keys as well as how the internet and industry in general are more supporting this type of authentication
Good video. Now if they’d come out with fingerprint technology for a credit card. I guess I’ll buy one of these keys and put my card on my phone. Still easy enough to put it on a plastic card.
I purchase 2 Yubikey 5 NFC to use with lastpass. My key's were configured and work well using the OTP configuration in the Yubikey Personalization tool. I can use both of them easily with my laptop. The problem is using it with my mobile device which is the main reason I purchased the iphone 7 plus as well as the Yubikey.....I used the recommended NFC Taginfo by NXP app to check to see that my phone scans the yubikey 5 and it picked it up. I do not have a cover on my phone. So when I log into lastpass on my iphone 7 plus without Google Authenticator enabled, onlt Yubikey enabled, when it asks me to tap the key to the top back left of my phone the signal shows up, then the phone scans and the signal shows a blue check mark. The next thing that should happen is that the lastpass app should open up to my vault......but it goes back to the previous screen as though I need to rescan. So what gives? What is not set up correctly? The phone reads the yubikey, NFC in phone is enabled, yubikey works with laptop......what is the issue? 09291221ah55 Posts: 2 Joined: Wed Jun 19, 2019 5:45 pm
