Learned this last week when in a double random battle in Showdown I used clangorous soul and my oricorio copied it, sweeped the whole battle with them, lol
I love that multi-hit moves have gone from something you delete immediately after like level 10, to something that a lot of Pokemon would actually want to run if they have Skill Link/Loaded Dice
@MishKoz they used to all be only 10-20 power with not perfect accuracy. Now they're all 25 power with perfect accuracy except the rock one cuz rock never has perfect accuracy.
Some moves wouldn't obviously fit into the category too, like triple axel and triple kick. Normally you remake the accuracy check on each hit with those moves, but skill link skips the subsequent checks.
@@micahfurlow2624 its japanese name is むしくい which むし means bug and くい means ate/eaten the reason why "bug bite" is not a biting move is the same as in any other non jp-languages you play pokemon in its all made in a foreign language where things makes more sense and translated to a language that you know, which may not translate well like how in french, bug bite is called "piqûre" which means "sting", it'll be equally as weird for "sting" to be affected by strong jaw
I remember thinking I was going to be able to setup my Serperior against Skeledirge to SubSeed then Tera Steller it into oblivion. Little did I know it hit through and just burned my Serperior to a crisp 😅
@@marcoasturias8520 it's like saying all moves that change the Pokemon's stats are in a category because of contrary or simple. Or all steel moves are because of steelworker.
Dancing moves (moves that can be called by oricorio's dancer), Healing Moves (moves effected by Heal Blocking and Triage), Protection moves (moves that get broken by feint, Phantom/Shadow Force and Hyperspace Hole/Fury, and ignored by unseen fist, Hyper Drill and Mighty Cleave).
One category is Contact moves - whether a move makes contact or not. Obviously too big to list all moves but there are a ton of interactions. Maybe notable physical moves that dont make contact (Earthquake) or special moves that do (electro drift)
What’s interesting about contact moves is that they were introduced as a thing in Gen 3, so pre phys/spec split (in general the special contact moves became physical and vice versa)
The Aura and Pulse moves are simple to understand but what truly ties them together is the fact that they contain the word "はどう" (spoken as "hadö"), which means "wave". This is also the same word present in the famous fighting game move Hadouken
One big category you probably want to focus on is contact moves. Not all physical moves are contact such as rock slide and some special moves like grass knot are contact too. They are also screwed over by multiple abilities and affected by items like rocky hemlet
I don't think this is exactly a "move category," but I was sort of hoping to see a footnote about the interactions between Fly/Thunder, Dig/Earthquake, and Dive/Surf. Great video!
Strong Jaw should really give accuracy as well. Specifically to make the elemental fangs actually good. Pulse Moves get to target any opponent in triple battles, regardless of position. It's been a while since that were relevant, though.
The elemental fang moves should really just get a +5 in damage and accuracy. No need to only buff those moves for exclusively pokemon with the ability.
Contact, Recoil, Dance, Priority, Spread, Explosion, Weather, Terrain, Room, Protection?, Screens?, Trapping, Multi Hit, Charging. Tbf, there is a lot of move sub categories and each have their own weird mess that are related to abilities or items. I probably forgot some too. Also pulse moves can target anywhere in triple battles.
You can contact the ball and bomb moves by the fact that that they're ballistic moves, moves with a projectile. And dang, how the heck is bug bite not a biting move?! I'd argue, based on recent animations, that leech life could be one too.
Once again, W video 💯 Also, an explanation for the "Ball and Bomb Moves" is likely because the official term for the Category is "Ballistic" moves, which makes some attacks there make more sence
They should have made rillabooms drum attack be a sound special attack that works with its physical attack. Because the stronger he is the harder he can play the drum.
You forgot Binding Moves, like Wrap or Fire Spin. While not having a dedicated ability for them there are two items that interact with the category, Binding Band and Grip Claw.
I really like these kind of videos! I would add Contact moves solely because not all physical moves are contact moves. They also interact with Rocky helmet, Iron Barbs and Rough Skin and a lot more, so I guess it would’ve been too long to fit in the video
I think that Kicking moves would be an interesting category (Iron Foot being kicking version of iron fist) Scratching, Headbutting, and Tail moves would be interesting categories but I don’t think there are enough moves to warrant their own categories
@@tobiasgund8048 Indeed, Headbutting has headbutt, skull bash, Zen Headbutt, and Iron Head Scratch has Scratch, Hone Claws, Furry Swipe, Shadow Claw, and Metal Claw Tail has Tail Slap, Tail Whip, Shed Tail, Aqua Tail, Poison Tail, Dragon Tail and Iron Tail
It seems like punching moves got the short end of the stick. Iron Fist only boost the power by 20%(3:54). The power boosting ability for other categories give a 50% boost.
Ball and bomb moves mean that a ball projectile is being shot. So rock cannon is fine but hydro cannon isnt. Moon blast should work imo but it doesnt. Its called moon force in japanese but it literally shoots a ball. It kinda just looks like pink shadow ball.
The Aura and pulse category is very consistently named in Japanese where they all are "Hadou" moves It's the same "Hadou" as in Street Fighter's Hadouken, which Aura Sphere is clearly based on Also, Sound based moves bypass Substitute. I love categories and variations.
I guess ohko moves are technically a category because sturdy blocks them. Also damp blocks explosion moves. Pretty funny to have a category be only 4 moves. If there were only 3 moves, then you might just list the 3 moves in the ability description.
Imagine if there were a Throat Chop equivalent of the other categories: Muzzle: disables Biting Knife Duller: disables Slicing Peace Treaty: disables Bombs
I still do not get why belch is not a sound move. And a category you missed is draining moves, which bitter blade and matcha gotcha are inexplicably not considered to be. Yes, they drain, but they lack the flag of draining move which means they don't get boosted by big root or triage.
Honestly Contact Moves would be interesting to go over since some of seem really strange. I'm like 90% sure Grass Knot makes contact but I don't understand why.
Well... Contact moves are a thing. I remember assuming it was basically an alternative to physical moves but then I used draining kiss on a garchomp with rocky helmet 😅
I believe that tangled hair, weak armour, cute charm, gooey, rough skin, poison point, flame body, static, effect spore and iron barbs are the abilities that interact with contact moves
You should have included Priority moves as a category, since some abilities and battle effects (terrain etc) disable the moves Edit: Let's add Trapping moves (fire spin, whirlpool), self-locking moves (outrage), and recoil moves
I think bulletproof should make you immune to self-destruct and explosion or at least take half damage from those attacks that way it doesn't completely outclass The Damp ability, which is already pretty terrible
Also, are draining moves (Leech Life, Giga Drain...) also a category? They are all boosted by Big Root and interact negatively with Liquid Ooze (except for Dream Eater).
We should have new categories. Light moves: flash cannon, aurora beam, light that burns the sky, signal meam, tail glow, flash, light screen, etc. Interacts with illuminate. Kicking: Blaze kick, jump kick, double kick, triple axel, trop kick, aqua step, axe kick, etc Piercing moves: horn and stings, drilling moves. Fell stinger, megahorn, twineedle, poison sting, drill run, etc Cosmic moves: space-time, extraterrestrial, other dimension. Cosmic power, moonblast, moonlight, moongeit beam, sunsteel strike, hyperspace fury, draco meteor, meteor mash, meteor beam, spacial rend, roar of time, gravity, etc. But also, includes the categories as a new attribute to pokemon. Every could receive until 2 of them. And if the move has the same category, adds 20% damage (that caps at 50% if stacking with the ability). Every slasher pokemon would get at least 20% more damage from these moves (even kabutops, parasect, ceruledge) Blaziken, tsareena, hitmonlee, quaquaval, pheromosa, mega lopunny gets 20% from kicking. All of that not spending their abilities.
Also, pokemon with multiple "beings", heads, should be on the multiple category. 20% more damage from multihit or multitarget moves. Dodrio, magneton, exegutor, Hydreigon, maushould, Kangaskan, girafarig, Vanilluxe,
Finally, I think this category should also include types, so would act like a third type. 20% more damage of the type. Charizard Gyarados dragon, drapion kabutops flygon Gligar bug, lugia dragonair dragalge eelektros water, etc
One thing the actual games need is a status/property screen to show every darn move. Like how the hell is some kid supposed to know what Bulletproof affects lmao
Need Mega Armarouge & Ceruledge with Mega Launcher & sharpness. For vgc you can set up auora veil so they can both tank one attack that would activate weak armor, sd or calm mind during that turn, then mega evolve next turn
@@BrawlSnorlax I feel like it would be easier to rework the moves into Iron Fists then, instead of a whole new ability for such a small amount of moves (albeit I like the idea)
@@BrawlSnorlax Mega Launcher has 7 (aura sphere, dark pulse, water pulse, dragon pulse, heal pulse, origin pulse, terrain pulse) while hammer moves have 6 (crabhammer, dragon hammer, gigaton hammer, hammer arm, wood hammer, ice hammer), did I count wrong? 😑
never understood why "ball and bomb moves" isnt just "ballistic moves". theres a lot of cases where there isnt a word for something in english but this isnt one of them
Dance moves have "dance" in their name with the exception of "Aqua Step" and "Clangarous Soul" being dance moves but "Rain Dance" isn't because it is called "Rain Prayer" in japanese. Dance moves will be copied by any pokemon with the "Dancer" ability in the field.
