@Blake N I mean, I really enjoyed the story, I don't know what about it is dumb. I enjoyed the callback to Titan Souls as well. Titan Souls is very much not poorly made, it's one of my favorite games of all time, and it's super well made. Difficulty doesn't mean popularity by any means. Look at any popular Nintendo franchise. If you want indie, Stardew valley, or even FNAF. It's a lot more about enjoyability of the game itself and the ethos around the game. I think both are pretty good, personally.
@Blake N I see your argument and agree on the fun gameplay and soundtrack. I also agree that this won't be another HK but that's not what I said. I said I hope the community of the game grows as much as HK. I mean, if it grows at 25% it would still be awesome :)
The Steam page for Titan Souls says that the Titan Soul is the source of life and that it exists in fragments, each one belonging to the titans. This makes collecting the Tablets of Truth seem more like re-assembling Truth so that they can inhabit a new body (the foretold crow). In the next game, we might be after the pieces of Chaos, if it is in fact a third being. That being said, it doesn't fully make sense for Death to be Chaos, as they are a natural part of the balance.
That's what I got to in my TS theory, actually. I never realized the steam page outright said it. Collecting the pieces of life and Truth is really interesting, I didn't catch that. I'll bring it up in a follow up, for sure.
Something else. I suspect the final Lord of Doors might not been as terrible of a person as he may seem. After defeating the witch, you get teleported to him and he sarcastically congratulates you for your achievement before sending you on your way. Why did he do this? He was no fool and he would certainly know something was going on in all the time it took for you to reap the other two bosses for their souls. Given what he says before and after you fight him, about how he hated that his death was known ahead of time, the exact time he would cease to be, I think that while he initially intended to live forever, he eventually came to the conclusion that the way things had been going couldn't continue, but at the same time he didn't want to just allow himself to die like he did before, and so he allowed the opportunity for his downfall to happen and did nothing to interfere with it until the foretold crow was facing him down. This way he would either live forever or die to an uncertain fate, a death that was not guaranteed and not known with certainty. Maybe I'm off and my interpretation is wrong, but that's how it seemed to me.
That's a really interesting take. It's definitely possible, but it could also be that the Free Crows are somehow obstructing the Lord's observation somehow. Either way, I get where they're coming from, it's not like I'd want to die, either. I do like the idea that they knew it was happening, it would add another layer of characterization to a game already oozing character.
I mean terrible or not their actions make sense. What would someone feel when they are told their sole purpose of existing is to work for their entire life til the date they die. Though their urge for living is strong, otherwise why don’t they just destroy the contract and disband the commission?
This poor guy come to world and his "father" give him his final day, but not a name. Wow, imagine how nice it is: "Hey buddy! Welcome to life, take this chaos and manage it, oh and you have until x day to do your best. Name? Ha! Why the f*ck you need an identity to work??" Basically, the only present that he received since first moment in his life is... Being despised. Even in his design! Every lord before him was created with a crowned helmet, but he don't! It's a king without name nor crown in a long royal legacy. Why? Why his creator hates him like this? And if we talk about color language... First lord, who isn't as good as we know, wears a black armor, but our lord wears a white armor, a color associated with purity and goodness. Maybe it's only my point of view, but I think this could mean something... Anyway, I can't hate someone 'cause... Want to live. I mean, f*ck, this is possibly the most strong reason to emphatise someone that you could have!
I just finished the game today and this video combined with your video on Titan Souls have been really fun to dive into. The diffrence between DD and TS in terms of quality and overall gameplay is pretty big so I'm excited to see what the studio will do in the next game. Anyway I hope that both the game and your channel get more popular!
I'd argue that the level of quality between the two is pretty similar. Scope is a whole different thing, but Titan Souls is super polished, especially for the first game of a studio of two. Thanks for the encouragement!
Thanks for the video, im actually pretty sad that it has only hundreds of views but this is the best story explonation for this game from what i have found. I had a lot of questions after finishing the game and now i have much less so thanks. And also you mentiond like its gonna have sequels? I would be really happy, so good game and underrated, i hope people will find the game and also this video!
Just noticed that the info for the Giant Arrowhead says it has or had some soul in it. You find it in the boss room of the frog king who also stole some armor from a corpse that kinda looks like Knight Elhanan’s armor? Idk maybe I’m overthinking this but it’s kinda fun to think about it.
Yeah, that's elhanan's arrowhead and armor. I think it was talked about in the AcidNerve Q&A, but don't quote me on that. It's definitely supposed to be Elhanan's, though.
Incredible game. Was very unaware that this was connected to Titan Souls (no Xbox port = didn't know it ever existed) so the true ending fell completely flat for me until I watched this video. Now that i know i can appreciate it even more than I already did, as the games music, humor, and so on made it easily one of my favorite games. Thanks for making this one! Just really sucks Xbox never got the game so I'm sure I'm not the only one assuming it was a standalone.
That actually does bring up an interesting point. There are hints of an entire civilization that we barely see, such as with the description of the token of death or whatever it's called, as well as humans such as Jefferson's puppet and anthropomorphic characters such as Steadhone. Maybe DD and TS take place in the human world, long before and long after today.

I am planning on doing more on this game for sure, there's just a lot to go through and I'm not exactly sure how I want to split it up. Going through the shiny things might be a good one to do next, though!
So I just beat the game and saw the true ending, and while I never played titan souls, I recognized Truth, the eye and all that from a play through and had to confirm that this was indeed a sequel to titan Souls. Either way, thank you for the work you put into this.
So I just finished death's door and so I went on yt to find all the lore and story, since both titan souls and death's door are some of my favourite games. Anyway I have a few question. Why crows? Is it because they are scavenger birds? What will the story look like in the future? isn't the crow just the equivalent of the hunter in titan souls? if so does he have truth's power knowledge? and wouldn't this imply that what happen with the lords of doors might happen again?(I'm just curious if there will be another sequel or connected game, and if the story would allow it). Lastly, why are there only animal like creatures like bats spiders etc, is the witch the only human left? If so, how did this happen? Ok this was a lot, sry for asking so many question, I don't expect you to know/find out about everything, but it'd be nice if u could answer some of them if you can. I don't think there's any specific reasons they're crows, just that crows are related to death in real life, so the devs went with crows. I mention where I think the story will go at the end of the video. At the end of Titan Souls, Truth has the power of Truth and Life, and only needs Chaos to be essentially all powerful. The door breaking cuts Truth off of the power of life, so they have to use the Free Crows in order to get the Foretold Crow to themselves, and then use the power of the Foretold Crow to go to the aether and get the power of Life back. I think the next game will be about getting the power of Chaos to Truth, and then destroying all three, or separating them and killing Adam, taking over the power of life yourself. As for what characters are what animals, I think that's also just stylistic decision. Though, it does seems like a lot of things were human at one point, such as the corpse Jefferson uses, or Steadhone. Pothead was almost definitely human at one point as well, but the witch replaced his head with the pot.
Crow in alchemy is related to the symbol of Disintegration, destroying the things that weren't meant to exist anymore and retrieve the essence inside. Kinda like a cleansing ritual but the first step is to separate everything from body to soul

@@solarpellets Well... If I understood well... Crows collect souls for Commission, and Death only are in charge of take Lords souls, right? So Comission's machines guide regular souls to ether, through death's door, but at present moment, this process stopped because our Lord trapped Death in the Ether room, right? And theorically nothing dead nor born since hundreds of years. Ok, but why only some creatures become in giant demonic ones? If there's no new life, every living being would must be a giant now. Sorry, I'm incredibly full of questions XD
I would love to see some kind of connections video between TS and DD, like the averice design is similar to each other in both games in which I'm sure the battle music is also similar, as you mentioned the arrow head belonging to a previous titan, betty being the descendant of the yeti in TS etc.
Not only is it described that Betty is a descendant, she also exhibits the same attack patterns, as well as Vine Titan in TS having similar attack patterns and design as the Overgrown Plant in DD
That's a good idea. More explicitly pointing out connections could make certain lore elements click a lot better. I got AcidNerve to confirm a connection I had been suspecting in a Q&A event they had for DD's year anniversary, too, and it's not like there's a shortage of connections
I didn't expect this game to be this good. Immediately after last boss I went to 100% the game, then I platinumed it, second game I ever bothered to platinum.

It definitely spoils the story of Titan Souls, but if you have an android and a Bluetooth controller, you can find a Titan Souls APK. It was official, but it got delisted for whatever reason. You can definitely still find it, though.
By any chance are there additional details from Acid Nerve about the gravedigger’s picture with its schnauzer? The picture in the locket felt intentional to me and was hoping there would be some more dialogue about it but there wasn’t
I don't remember how much is actually said in game, but Steadhone infused the locket with their soul and put it on their dog's grave. That's part of why he can't die until you return the locket
That's a good question. They seem to be made of soul, but I don't know if they're meant to be anyone specifically, just soul to power the door placed there by Truth, or at least the free crows.
How come whenever we fight the lord of the doors before we fight him, his name is the last lord of the doors when we have not even killed him yet. Also how do we know every single name of every boss when no one has told us their names. Please explain this to me
Because they refuse to die. They won't make an heir because they don't think they're going to die. Whether we kill them or not, they'll still be the last. Either that or it's some dramatic irony. Probably that one, to be honest, but the former is more interesting lol

@@Peppe_01 I mean, first of all that's stupid because the Lord of doors is a fictional character that doesn't have a sex, but more importantly it's stupid because "they" doesn't imply a sex and doesn't imply that there is no sex. Even moreso, "he" doesn't imply male and "she" doesn't imply female. On top of the fact that there's so much more nuance than that and we as intelligent humans should be able to understand the difference between sex and identity.

As an it myself, it makes me comfortable and happy. That's it. If you don't want to listen to that, it's your problem, not mine, and not the writers of the story.
