I got the micro and the mini set of flexcut carving tools, but I started out with the speedball interchangeable blade set. Great tutorial! I have a piece of traditional gray Lino that I haven’t used yet. I’m going to give some of these marks a try.

Thanks! This helps alot. In my current project I also use the knife tool to pecisely cut tight squares and then scrape them deeper with the tip.

Hi Holly! I just discovered your videos. Is there a link somewhere on your channel for the Japanese tools that you usebin this video and the linocut for beginners video?

For the soft-cut lino I have found that digging in and not carving out but changing the direction of your tool to be horizontal and cutting the lino off in a straight line has almost the same effect as the snap :) (sorry if it sounds confusing, haha! I am not English)

That's a great explanation. We had another customer say they do this too! Good idea

Hi Holly, thanks for an excellent video. Can I please ask how you achieved such an even stain on the lino with the watered down acrylic? I tried with a brush and finished up with brush marks on the surface. In addition, I couldn't then transfer an image onto the lino. Neither graphite nor Saral would make a mark on the acrylic-painted surface.

Hi Neil, I usually use very watered down acrylic and rub it in with a rag and then buff it off. It should stain it but not leave a layer of paint.

@@Handprinteduk Thanks Holly, I'll try that.

Can you explain to me how you hold the beginner cutter? There’s a lot of different ways to hold it online and I want to hold it properly. Also could you tell me how much pressure you use when cutting? Thank you!

What brand was that box of Japanese tools?
@sueallen952
@sueallen952 2 года назад
Don't know if you will see this, I've only just discovered you. I'm just getting into lino cutting and bought the essdee set and was wondering what the bottom tool on the box is gorgeous? The really strangely shaped one no 5
@Handprinteduk
@Handprinteduk 2 года назад
Is it the curved knife? Essdee describe it as 'a thin line-marking tool for making the first lines to define the design before using other cutters to remove the unwanted background. It can be pushed or dragged across the surface and turned very easily to describe curves and wavy lines'
