I think the witches are kind of expressing the binaries in life as for one group, the battle is won and for one group, and the battle is lost. I think it also kind of satirises history as we all know that "History is written by the winners"

Thanks a lot sir,it really helped. The standard of literature,the vocabulary and many other things have increased rapidly from 'The Merchant Of Venice' in 9th standard to 'Macbeth' in 11th.
