Here’s the reason you don’t sell your catalog if a company is willing to buy your catalog for 100 million that means that they plan to make 200 million or more off of it which also means that they already have lined up a way to make some money off of your music do the legwork and figure out who wants what from you and do the same thing that’s a big company is going to do lease it out at a lesser price you may make 15 million instead of the hundred million but on the flipside you retain publishing and royalty rights if you set up the deal right on top of that you weren’t getting that one big lump sum of money that you’re going to be taxed on that’s the reason Michael Jackson was sitting on all of those different catalogs along with prince because it any point in time they could license music for that catalog for commercial or a spot in the movie get paid, possibly pick up some new fans that buy a few albums, and still retain the rights to do the same thing again five or six years from now the ultra rich or ultra rich because they in reality don’t sell a damn thing that accumulates wealth they sell off liabilities
You can sell a piece of your catalog. That way the company that buys it will push it. Then you will also be making a little money Market you. And the lump-sum can be invested.
But if you don’t have a plan or if your plan is garbage. If they do decide to sell all they have to do is put 1/3 of the money in Warren Buffet’s Berkshire and Hathaway companies portfolio and then the rest of the money in their plan and they would be fine. But most of them will do asinine ish with their money and get ripped off🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️
A music catalog depends on marketing for its value, most artists don't have the kins of money needed to increase the value of their music unlike the companies that they are selling to
