Ayutthaya is synonymous with 'River Prawns.' Among the numerous riverside restaurants, one that has won my heart and kept me coming back is Ruean Thai Kung Pao, located by the Chao Phraya River near the serene Choeng Len Temple. I've been frequenting this place since it was just a tiny raft and has now expanded into a grand eatery.
A word of caution to all seafood enthusiasts: Book in advance, or you'll miss out on the mouth-watering prawns! Speaking to the owner, they assure that only the finest quality prawns make the cut, and the rest are returned.
Their prawns are gigantic and incredibly fresh. Their claws are also transformed into a variety of tantalizing dishes. Be it Stir-fried Lotus Strings, Steamed Prawns with Vermicelli, Fried Rice, or an Omelette, the flavor at this place is genuinely unbeatable, making every dish an absolute delight.
After a visit to a temple, our next stop takes us to Here Kae Pork Satay, a classic eatery selling their famous pork satay for a whopping 100 years! I've been a regular customer since they sold two skewers for 25 satangs. Today, each skewer costs 7 Baht.
Their special treat that has everyone hooked is the Grilled Pork Intestine and Liver combined in a single skewer with Pork Satay. I can assure you it's incredibly tender, the liver doesn't smell gamey at all, and their dipping sauce, a unique blend of Islamic and Chinese flavors, is absolutely delightful.
Today’s eating is not a problem. I've got T-Mixes herbal tea to help digest. It's caffeine-free and packed with mulberry leaves and jiaogulan, helping to control blood sugar levels, reduce fat, and manage high blood pressure.
