Kiss played. I want to say the music hall but stayed at the suites at the hotel. A friend of mines older brother hung out in the lobby and got there autograps. It was in the makeup days and were not allowed photos but recognized them and some signed album's. Houston is a dying city it will go to the wrecking ball. Our new citizens from Venezuela and abroad dont care about the ASTRO WORLD hotel.

It was 1974. My first concert. When he was suppose to play in Houston, They told Elvis to leave the colored girls behind, his back up singers. He said they come or I don’t. He then made sure they were on full display. He was The King!
@keetonplace

@youthbuildersantiaging4250.... I have never believed this story for a moment. There were no girls riding in the vehicle with Elvis. And...I worked at the airport the first time he came and met all the guys responsible for getting him to the Astrodome. Those guys were like little kids beaming with joy to have gotten Elvis there. They would have said nothing to deter him.

I don't belive it either, some people can't do anything without bringing up race...when people stop applying race to everything then we can be closer to the 1970s when everyone hung out together and didn't apply race to everything! Nobody was telling Elvis what to do in the 70s! The story sounds alot better with out the race baiting bs! F.y.i.

This hotel still exists as the Crowne Plaza Hotel near the Houston Astrodome and still has several suites in it. However, less well-known is Houston's gaudiest apartment inside the Houston Astrodome, itself. This apartment also was built by and belonged to Judge Roy Hofheinz and featured a putting green, a shooting gallery, a puppet theater and a bowling alley, while a private terrace overlooked the playing field. The décor in the Astrodome apartment was gaudy enough to make Elvis blush!

As a native Houstonian + former employee of now defunct AstroWorld. I am pleased you showcased this once Guinness World Record breaking suite. The reason the floor is NOT used is it it is NOT "Code" It's old like Disneyland + not ADA compliant. The "Judge" had exotic and over the top tastes. The Astrodome to us "old school" means a lot including the former park. While they exist in the "South" to attend the BB game or park was NOT segregated. They could make $$$ just giving tours If they wanted to. I also have memories of the Astro World/Village Hotel. The downstairs had the Mad Mushroom. It's changed owners many time. Had hotel/theme park B4 Walt Disney World. Was the 4th themed park in America.

Hi 👋 there Michael Taylor. Thankyou so very much " for sharing your wealth of knowledge", re the hotel etc . I just don't understand why " the owner/s wouldn't give guided tours???". Obviously they would have to make sure, it would be made safe for tourists, and people whom live in Texas. There are SOOOOOOO MANY ELVIS FANS, MJ FANS, HISTORIANS ETC ,ALL AROUND THIS BIG WIDE WORLD 🌐 WE LIVE IN, THAT WOULD LOVE ❤️ A GUIDED TOUR!!!!!!!!. THEY COULD GATHER PEOPLE ( LIKE YOURSELF) , TO GIVE SOME PERSONAL KNOWLEDGE, TO ADD TO THE GUIDED TOUR. HAVING SAID THAT " I DID READ A REPLY FROM SOMEONE, THAT SAID " SOMETIMES THEY DO OPEN THIS UP TO THE PUBLIC???". THANKYOU SO VERY MUCH, FOR YOUR WEALTH OF KNOWLEDGE MICHAEL, MUCH APPRECIATED!!!!!!. I WOULD ABSOLUTELY 💯 👌 ❤️, PAY TO HAVE A TOUR OF THIS HISTORIC PENTHOUSE ,AND ANYTHING ELSE. SO MUCH HISTORY TO BE LEARNT, AND IT'S JUST SITTING THERE " FROZEN IN TIME " , WHICH IS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING, AND MIND BLOWING!!!!!!!!!!!. OH , OUT of curiosity, what work did you do at AstroWorld , before it was shut down????, if you don't mind me asking. Anyways, I WISH YOU 🤞 A VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR, STAY SAFE, AND TC ALWAYS PLEASE. @@elvispresley9632 Hi Elvis....I have a lot of printed articles about the hotel. The model of the park was/is on display @ Central Branch Library in Houston, TX downtown. I was actually tasked with bringing it from the Astrodome to Astroworld where it was to be restored and placed in the atrium of the administration building. That NEVER happened, but thankfully it DID get e temporary restoration, but still needs some TLC. Ed Henderson made the model & drew the 1st park map. HE is who told me where the model was @ AD.

Nice video, although it isn’t abandoned so much as it is just closed off. There are occasions where organizations such as Preservation Houston, etc. will arrange tours of the suites. Personally, I’m glad that it’s been kept as is. Roy Hofheinz was a genius, and he had a wonderful suite in the Astrodome itself, but I understand all that has gone away, so very nice that the hotel has hung onto this. I’ve actually seen personally-signed cheques from Elvis when he stayed there. LOL!

Seeing the Astrodome again brought tears to my eyes as a former member of the UH Cougar Band during the mid/late 80s when the Coogs played their home football games in the Dome. I spent a lot of Saturdays in that place and at AstroWorld. University of Houston also fairly recently tore down Hofheinz Pavilion where the Coogs played basketball. I was just checking Google about the Astrodome World Hotel in 2017 the Texas Historical Commission designated the Astrodome a state antiques land mark which basically protects it from being torn down. That also means that the Texas Historical Commission has to sign off on any changes and no changes can be made that can't be undone. Voters turned down a proposal to upgrade the building in 2013.

18:15 1000% agree with hoping the city of Houston and the preservation society realize that is truly a time capsule. Say for tiny changes to keep up with times when it was still being used like perhaps new shades, rugs, and of course the big ol Zenith tube TVs it has basically frozen in time as it was in those historic photos. I would almost bet that should they ever open it up to the public for tours it would attract people from around the country if not the world venturing to see it eager to pay their money for a chance to walk in the footprints of a place where so many historical superstars & politicians alike stayed. I wouldn’t even recommend “tidying” the place up either I’d leave it as is dust and all! I know I’d gladly pay a fee to get to see this in person and experience what you did in this video. The whole time you could tell by the enthusiasm in your voice that your loving every second.

Slept many a night on gurneys in the dome worried the man my rats I kept hearing about would show up. The dome is haunted big time been in there when is empty before rodeo started or after when my mom had to finish with patients (usually drunks who feel fell down the stairs) and it’s like someone’s watching you. I never saw the purpose of Lee p brown demanding that NRG stadium, the dome was fine with some repairs and is a historic landmark: NRG is boring and nothing fancy. Total waste of taxpayers money

Judge Roy Hofheinz was pure showman of his day and age.... and this was his baby... even have heard tales that Howard Hughes shut himself up in this suite for long stretches of time. Once they even offered tours of this and tours of the suite in the Astrodome it's self. I sadly was never able to take one... but, have heard of them. Surprised that this sits so much like it does. TREY , THANKYOU SO, SO VERY MUCH FOR SHARING THIS, ABSOLUTELY 💯 ❤️ LOVE THIS AMAZING HISTORY. WHAT A WONDERFUL JOB YOU DID TREY!!!!!.,AND YOU HAD TO SPEND ALOT OF MONEY TO GET IN TO VIDEO THIS. IT MUST HAVE BEEN AMAZING FOR YOU TO HAVE BEEN THERE, JUST WATCHING YOUR VIDEO " BLOWS MY MIND AWAY " , WITH ALL THE HISTORY. DO YOU KNOW " IF ANYONE HAS PLANS TO HAVE GUIDED TOURS OF THIS HISTORICAL PLACE?????". I MEAN, THERE WOULD BE MILLIONS OF ELVIS FANS, MJ FANS ETC WHOM WOULD PAY TO SEE THIS PLACE. THE OWNER/S HAVE KEPT THIS IN IT'S ORIGINAL DECOR ,AND INTACT FOR MANY YEARS, ONE WOULD THINK, THIS IS BECAUSE " ONE DAY THEY WILL OPEN THIS HISTORIC PLACE TO THE PUBLIC????". I DO HOPE SO!!!!!!!!!. THANKYOU SO VERY MUCH AGAIN TREY. HAPPY NEW YEAR, TC ALWAYS PLEASE. GOD BLESS Y'ALL 🙌 🙏 ❤️. MUCH APPRECIATED.

Wow, great find. Wouldn't it be wonderful to renovate rather than replace? The history of those rooms - if walls could speak! Love that story of Elvis waking to find the queues waiting. In our hearts, in spirit, they still are. Thank you for sharing this with us all. TCB.

This is absolutely amazing!!! I wouldn’t wanna imagine the cost per night if that suite were to be brought up to modern day and reopened! I just found your channel on my feed and I’m glad I did bc this is an amazing video of what was an amazing place and IMO if it were up to me I wouldn’t modernize it I’d just have it all cleaned and everything inside be brought up to working order and keep it as original as possible!

Exactly and right now it’s still 1970 up there! Hopefully this video will be viewed by a million people and show that people would pay to tour or stay there! I’m here to help them promote the place to fans… save it Wyndham!!

I remember back in either 1984 or 85, my high school teacher stayed at this hotel. It had something to do with photography and she told us she picked the jungle room and described it just like you recorded.

One of the best virtual tour experiences, great job Trey, looks like allot of work went into this. Graceland Inc. should purchase this building and restore it to its original splendor, guests could stay in the rooms below while getting tours of the penthouse above. With its history theres no doubt in my mind that it'd attract fans from all over the country.

If Graceland had any care or sense to grow the legacy of EP outside their compound I do feel this would be a great investment for them.. hire me and I’ll tour fans around it during the week and honor Elvis Astrodome shows and history…how does that sound?

I used to work security there in the early 90’s. I spent a lot of time up there in those rooms. No one stayed there at that time but I would go up there and hang out for hours on my shifts.

Honestly, I haven’t watched your video to the end but I will. It actually looks cleaner now. But my memory isn’t exactly great from 30 years ago. I worked uniform security at the time and hung out with the maintenance guys a lot because we worked the night shift mostly. Man, I could tell you some crazy stories from that time in those penthouse suites! Oh and they are definitely haunted. I know, I know…no one will believe me but strange stuff happened there at night.
