It opened in 1853 and closed in 1983 along the Naugatuck River. This one building was part of many other buildings some of which collapsed over time. This building may not be standing much longer judging by the look of it and the fact that it was raining inside the building.
In my opinion this building had multiple purposes. It may have used the water from the river to power other buildings and also to pump the water to clean and cool the brass parts.
The factory mostly supplied brass clock parts for Seth Thomas clocks.
There are a lot of wood cabinets and shelves. The archways and brickwork are beautiful. The electrical boxes and insulators are what makes me think they used the river to supply electricity.
One of the huge machines inside has a metal label that states it is a steam generator.
The one drawer in the filing cabinet that wasn't water damaged had maintenance information for the equipment. There was handwritten date of 1957 on one invoice.
The woodwork and the views out the window made it worth seeing. The rest I would have to say is some of the most beautiful decay I've ever seen.
Thanks for watching. I hope you enjoy / enjoyed the video.

I worked in two Copper and Brass mills for a long time in CT. Ansonia and Waterbury. Those were big steam Boilers.

The things with ladders and catwalks are big fire tube steam boilers. The stuff that looks like a roller coaster is wire trays for carrying wires. The things that you thought were transformers were resistor boxes for starting early electric motors. The Westinghouse switchgear was the main power entrance equipment. The insulators behind it held bare copper bus bars that fed power that was 480 volts 3 wire 3 phase to run the motors etc, and there is a transformer that lowers the voltage to 120 volts for the very vintage fluorescent lights and any standard wall receptacles. It was improperly labeled “110 volts”, but was 120. Way cool old building! 😊
