Just some fun backstory for you guys - Bogus Basin is a ski resort just outside of Boise Idaho and it is the largest Non Profit Ski Resort in America. It has been in business since 1942 and is one of Boise’s most treasured amenities. Just this past year they have decided to invest over 300k dollars into new trail building for the mountain bike program and really just revitalize the entire summer experience. They even just built one of the biggest jump trails I’ve ridden haha. We get to do a little sneak peak for you in the video but it opens Tomorrow to the public. Anyways it’s really exciting to see resorts and towns realizing the economic impact that mountain biking can bring to an area. They said they have over 1 million dollars of new trails planned for the next 3 years and We can’t wait to see how it all turns out! If you guys are ever in the area it’s definitely worth checking out. Huge thanks to them for inviting us up for the day! Hope you guys enjoy the video!
@@TheArchiveOfWonder The final two weeks for this season, the lifts are closed for repairs etc... We can always ride UP to get on the trails, otherwise next season.
Amazing...my kids are just getting into MTB here in Minnesota and you can tell it's taking off here as well. Can't wait to see where this all goes over the next decade or so. Love your channel!
Great to see April riding to her comfort level! Most Mntb channels are big jumps, fast lines, etc. Appreciate you showing us the reality for a majority of us new riders. Helps a lot!
Yeah its been super fun to see her progress! I agree, most mainstream MTB channels forget about the majority of people that actually ride. Thanks for the nice comment!
It’s interesting to me that with April’s previous motocross experience there wasn’t more carry over to MTB. I’ve never ridden a motorcycle, just seems like that would be harder and make learning MTB easier.
This guy is so humble for such a sick and talented rider. It's kind of refreshing to watch. Too many of these MTB RU-vidrs have big heads and think their shit doesn't stink. Follow Kyle's lead and you'll be on the right track!
I've just begun watching your videos a few weeks ago and it was really great to see you out on the trails riding the jumps and having a blast. Subscribed! BTW, I'm a 66 yo woman who has a Trek coming in February 2021, so I'm trying to learn all that I can before it comes and I can finally begin practicing. I'll be 67 by then. Pray for me!!!
@@AprilRideMTB I forgot to mention, I live in Pennsylvania and I live minutes away from Allegrippis Trails in Huntingdon County, right around Lake Raystown.
This is such a joyful video. April: incredible progression. Good on you! Kyle: it's so beautiful to hear how you always encourage and empower her. This goes so much further than MTB tuition... it's a new model for guys everywhere (pardon my sentimental musings). Love your channel. Keep it up.
Place looks super fun! I was hoping to hit highland mtb park tomorrow but during the last race i tweaked my wrist so i am taking the next two weeks off from 4 wheels as well as 2 wheels 😫😫😫
I keep re-watching the segment on Space Nugget, at my current skill level that would be an amazingly fun trail. Earlier this month I had the chance to ride my first bike park, (Bryce in VA) and thanks to what I've learned from this channel I had an absolute blast, I may have cased most of the table tops, but the berms and (smaller) drops I hit like a champ. So thanks to you and April. The Pro and the Everywoman showing us how to do things right. On a related note... Bogus Basin is now on my bucket list for my trip out west next summer.
Love what you guys are doing keep it up! I watched your video "how to drop" and was so impressed by the content that I went to your youtube site and bookmarked everything. I also watched the two of you on B1ker Bar ep. 63 again impressed. Kyle you mentioning your depression and April being tranparent about her fears. Remember there will always be someone with negative comments ... but it's more a reflection of themselves. Hope you guys can do this full time, you deserve it. As well as your learning videos ... love the videos of you two riding the trails together. There are tons of riders showing themselves riding this or that trail ... but very few of couples riding together, but that's just my view. Definately going to show my wife the videos. Again, thanks to both of you for your time and efforts helping others become better riders.
Hi Kyle! Love the videos you put out. Just wanna ask what gloves you're using since I notice it has thick padding on the thumb area. Mine are hurting lately, just curious. Thanks!
Just found your channel. You have some great tutorials and you both are rising Niner's. My wife just got her new Rip same color as April's. I think she will watch your videos to improve her since April is riding the same bike. I just got a new subscriber!!
Thank you very much for all your videos. They are easy to understand and pretty comprehensive (in my opinion). After ~20 years I want to get active again and overcome my inner pig dog. I got arthrosis in the right knee. Swimming is boring, nordic walking aswell 🙈 Biking is the only sport I really like. At the moment I am looking for a new bike. I want to ride easy/blue trails, do little jumps and also go on tours in the mountains with my husband (~40-50 kilometres). Is there a type of bike you can recommend for a beginner? Fully or hardtail? 🤔 I am very curious and can not wait!
Hey! For what you are talking about doing I think a 130mm - 140mm fullsuspension 27.5 bike would be perfect. I know the Marin Hawk Hill is a great option
I never comment on youtube but you guys are really great. I just recently started riding and your videos have helped a lot. Great coaching skills and being able to see April's progress is amazing. Any chance you would make a video talking about the gear you guys use and why you like it. Subscribed!
Your videos are amazing and very informational, I don’t know if you will see this message , but I’m new to mountain biking and have realized that everyone wears knee guards but no one wears elbow guards , why is that ? Shall I return my newly bought elbow guards ? Thanks
Elbow guards are good for beginners, so you should keep them! Depending on what I am doing I will wear them. In the wall ride video I wore them just in case I fell on the wood.
It's really cool to see the line choices coming into the berms. That's something I need to work on and it really helps to see the difference between April's line and Kyles line. Kyle comes in so high! I really want to work on maintaining my speed through those corners and I can see how much a difference that makes.
this is a grate place i wish i could be with u can i get a shout out in next video i did all that u sed i should do u are the best teachers in the world thank you for all u done keep doing what u love i. I can not get the wheelie i can't because i can not keep up the bicycle i not getting what i want 😢😢
Thank you Lynda! Don't feel bad about the wheelie it took me forever to learn it too and April still struggles with them. Maybe we can do an update video to help people a little more :)
Thanks for another great video. Even the learner trail at the end looked good fun. If I ever get over to the US again I will have to put that park on my to do list.
April, I am a Grandpa who loves to climb, but I ride at your level on the way down and so I want to follow you and hopefully I will be able to keep up. Thank you Kyle and April for sharing. :)
these must be interesting from April's mindset.. Sometimes Kyle is talking to the camera/audience, sometimes he is complimenting April and some times he is giving instruction... all while thinking the trail a head of her Nice sneak preview This is a good time to thank all trail builders... not just for mountain biking.. moving stone, especially large erratics ... One thing a trail maintenance guy once told me: "I like to know that I have made a trail better and it will be like that until the next ice age."
that new trail looks like bogus basin's version of A-line. I live here in Boise, so if you're ever up ridin bogus, hit me up man. built a new bike, so i'm excited to hit the more janky trails up there. PS: the road is really fun to ride down too, with fast rolling tires, you can easily hit 40mph. with really chunky aggressive tires, i hit 35mph consistently.
@@AprilRideMTB I'll certainly be there as much as I can. So many trails I haven't hit yet, and a few new trails that weren't there the last time I rode there. I look forward to making it a 3 day camping trip.
Hi, Kyle and April! I just want to send love from the Philippines. I really like your channel. I watch your videos a lot. They are very helpful. Thank you and always ride safe.
@@AprilRideMTB wow! You're response means a lot to me. I really hope you'd come to the Philippines. Thank you again. Stay strong as a couple. You're both lovely! I'm looking forward to watching more videos from you guys. You rock!
Hi Kyle&April love the sharing of mtnbike and trails. and your bikes. i have a niner jet 9 rdo and im 5'7' height and ride a small frame. how about you guys what sizes you ride. thanks
@@AprilRideMTB thanks for the response. because i ask is im still curious about my fitting on my niner 29 small frame. i have it for 8 months now. because i usaually ride meduim size on my mtnbike. whats your thoughts about me picking the size of my niner???
Hi to you both. Nice to see you back doing the vids. I wanted to ask you could you do a vid on dropping down stairs. I figured If I could practice more on stairs I could take it to the trails when I'm riding them. Unfortunately we don't have as many as cool trails like you have. Cheers Great vid take care 👍
Another great video. Just the right length. I particularly like that you are also riding some of the easier trails rather than just the double black diamonds that so many others do in their videos. Now, I will need to make another trip to Boise. Question: When you did the videos of teaching skills to April, was she really just a beginner or was she just helping you out by being your "student"?
Thanks Bruce! A common misconception people have is assuming that I am a "beginner". We haven't claimed that I am one and it was never our intention for people to think so (this is my third season riding MTB and why I can progress quickly) however I am actually learning or improving my skills in the "how to- better ____ in 1 day" videos. You don't have to be a beginner to learn how to do some skills like wheelie or manual 😊. We have had many people comment that they have been riding a long time, even some saying 30 years, and are also learning things that I am as well. One big video we need to do is a jumping one and we have struggled with how we want to tackle that as I already know the basics of jumping for the first jumping video. We have gotten some feedback and think that we will do that video a little different since I won't be learning in that one, I may still learn or be reminded a tip or two though! Hope this helps understand us a little better 😊
@@AprilRideMTB Thanks for the reply. I did not mean to imply that you wanted people to think you were a beginner. Your experience does make me feel better about how quickly you are progressing compared to how slowly I am progressing. Of course, if you were a beginner and progressed at the rate I saw, I would expect you to be ready for the Olympics in a year or two. Keep making the delightful videos.
Another great video guys. Way better than the crap on tv. Tried your tips on weighting the front for more grip in the turns, made a big difference on my local trails. Didn't wash the front once. Thanks.
Kyle & April, great channel. At 60+ still trying to get better at riding MTB and found your channel by accident early this year. Like April, I came from dirt bikes and after moving to SoCal switched to MTB. This was before suspension. I then transitioned to road biking 99.8% of the time for 20 years. Now it's 60/40 time wise, road and MTB. Keep the how-to videos coming, some of the things you are teaching April are really helping me. As others have commented, MTB isn't just about jumping. Now to master the manual! Would love to see you two on the road more like BKXC (the climb is half the fun).
I know this sounds a bit negative, but I feel like it's accurate constructive criticism. It's interesting to see what Bogus is building, but I feel like they have missed the mark in many ways this summer. Honestly in all of the new trails they built I never found any consistent flow. When riding the lift up it's pretty disappointing seeing the amount of new riders walking their bike down Learning Curve. It really shows that they couldn't find flow and make the grade of the hill work with their switchbacks. Alpine Bike Parks really pooped the bed building the main green trail that is supposed to help build confidence and skills for new riders. The new jump lines are fun, but they got pretty loose over the 1/2 summer that they were open and some of the corners are hard to hold enough speed to clear the jump that's only 10 yards out of the corner. It'll be interesting to see how things hold up over the winter and next season. Maybe the guys who laid the new rock work on shake and bake could come teach the Alpine Bike Parks folks how to build a technical trail like Foxtrot. I'm hoping these trails are rough drafts that were built quickly and that they'll get polished over the next few seasons. I know it's a lot of work, but I'm not sure if it's the best bet to pay a large company that doesn't know the region, dirt, terrain to come in and build these trails. I wish we had investment in local builders that could develop a local style and art for building trails that actually works with Bogus. G19 and BBB are testaments to the quality of trails that can be crafted with mindfulness and creativity. All in all I'm glad to see new trails, but I'm mostly grateful that they got the morning star lift running since it drops me off next to my favorite trails G19 and BBB.
Hey! No worries at all criticism is one of the most valuable things for places like this. I will pass it along to the team and just let them know. Hopefully they can re work a few things in 2021
@@AprilRideMTB yeah man I'm also excited to see how they develop over the next few years. If you could choose another lift to open and for them to develop trails on another side of the hill which would it be? I feel like pine creek would be rad, but it's also the most isolated lift. Maybe Superior would be in the cards at some point.
I've been getting into MTB more since my husband started riding a couple of years ago. I love watching your guys' videos because they're honest and straightforward, which has been soooo helpful for me as a moderate rider. April, you're progressing so much, and it's so motivating! Get it girl! Kyle, thanks for all the detailed and clear explanations! Keep it up, you two :)
@2:18 ...SHOW OFF!! hahahahaha just kidding. I'm just jealous. I had to stop practicing due to a small casualty practicing how to wheelie's..hahahahahah. Once I'm good, I'll be all over your "How To" videos. Keep up the awesome content!

Super smooth April, like a Pro. All that air and hitting those berms. Really impressive video and your ability now, April, is amazing. Love the wheelies and mono's, Kyle, particularly on the trail between the berms and jumps! On that dusty trail I would be on the back brake mainly, my main concern would be the front wheel washing out. Dust is not that common in the UK! Any tips Kyle?
Thanks Bob! Yeah its weird to ride dust! We never get any greasy roots so its funny the contrast between places. The biggest tip for dust is similar to roots in the fact that you just need to pick where you are going and then be light on the brakes. Find little pockets of good dirt to brake in!
What an awesome surprise! I was just as excited when I learned how close Highland MTB was to where I live! If you ever come up to the Northeast you both have to check out Highland Mountain Bike park and make a video! Nice progression too, April! Almost got the double! Love these videos - helped me so much with my "berm riding" and loading up before jumps, and even rock rolls. You guys are the best!
Hey Kyle and April! Love your technique videos! I’d love to see a how-to on taking clean lines through a tight downhill switchback. Thanks for putting out great content!
Next video is gonna be April's debut into the racing scene! She's killing it it's so sick. And your approach to teaching is great too I love what you said at the start of the black trail, that if anything doesn't look right to stop and check it out. So methodical it's a great, something I think I need to try out instead of going gunho and smashing Pedals everywhere.
Thank you! 😊 I should have listened to Kyle better and actually stopped at spots on that black diamond, because I could have done the drop and other sections if I would have. Not stopping is a hard habit to break!
Wow, so great to see Bogus Basin again. I was in the USAF @ Mtn. Home in the late 80’s and learned to ski @ BB. Would love to hit those trails someday. Thanks for sharing guys!!!
Another great video and I’ll have to put Bogus on my summer wish list. it will be a nice break from our lovely root filled trails here in north west WA.
Serious question. Purchased a Conti trail king and it wobbles when I ride. Rim is straight. Bead is on straight. Waiting on warranty. is it safe to ride?
Thats tough, usually its from the Bead "stretching" and that should be a warranty if its a new tire. You can ride it lightly but just be careful jumping or cornering hard on it!
