This is now my favorite castle. With $15 mill, I could live out the rest of my life in that library and bedroom. The extra money is for maintenance and taxes… I get people wanting to understand the layout better, but I really enjoyed this wandering exploration of incrediblemess,
Wow! This is an honor to have shared it with you and made it to the top of your list. I’ve always loved castles and it’s so much fun to share them with people. This is the one I would buy if I could as well. I don’t think you’d need quite so much- the taxes are actually quite low if it’s your primary residence, and perhaps if you were creative and hosted some events or airbnb you could cover most of the taxes and upkeep!
I've never wanted a property more!! I would immediately ask how much extra the owner would need to let most of the collections be left as well. The placement of paintings and religious objects from so many cultures are so magnificently displayed! It is truly a dream of a castle and having watched restorations of these types of dwellings I am aware of the amount of labor and money that goes into them. This place? I can't imagine. I'm obsessed. PS. I just looked at the price and find it beyond reasonable. Thank you for the unveiling of this historic gem!
I loved reading this comment -- I'm obsessed too :) Much of the art and religious artifacts would have to be separately negotiated, but Ivo mentioned that most of the furnishings could be had for an additional $1M.
Thanks Emmanuel! We love making them, and will continue to (slowly) produce them, just because I do sell real estate as my main job in NYC and can only travel so much for these tours 😂. But look for more soon!
Great to hear! We are working on our next one now and will keep it in mind as we do future recordings. The longer ones are more work/cost but I like to show the whole place when possible and it’s nice not to rush through these glorious rooms
What an artful and painfully beautiful property that exudes history from the very bricks. I was simply enraptured by the entire video. I can honestly say, I've never wished to live somewhere more in my life.
Thanks for watching Timothy, and I'm so glad that you enjoyed the tour. We're really putting everything we can into them, so I'm glad that it's translating -- this really means a lot. We're always open to feedback, too, if there is something else you would have liked to see, or if you think something could be improved easily.
😍🥰 The realtor's passion is truly admirable, along with his exceptional ability to articulate and show respect for the history of the home... Castle, Mansion..haha
Oddly, all I could think is, "If that huge oven that pipes to the outside needs repairing, whom do you call?"😅 Okay, I also thought, "Cool library. Beautiful windows. Can we bring back the moat? If I had four million, I'd buy it."
Hello> The pipes, curiously, in this region is easier to find the companies that repair roofs, pipes and tiles than other artisans. The moat, believe me I would love but it is impossible now because so many pipe lines under the ground and also, would be difficult for the entrance and cars. But, in its moment I asked for the permision to rebuildthemoat and it was rejected because the reasons I mentioned. Also I would have to change the local river plan. Regards
So amazing and beautiful and full of history! I can't believe a place like this is 4 million. There are small 4 bedroom homes in my area that go for this price if not more.
As someone who has spent his life restoring old buildings I so enjoyed your descriptions in this video. I cherish places like this. A bit beyond my budget otherwise I would jump on a jet to come spend a day investigating.
I liked the shot where the presenter actually had "Viking horns" coming out of his head - thanks to the trophy buffalo head set up on the wall behind him. The red Chinese themed room is amazing as is the rest of this chateau.
I am glad you are providing a link to Chateau Diaries video about the estate. I’ve guided that tour, and they talked about the history of the estate, as well as Ivo’s collections of exotic or religious artifacts. I saw it when she produced it. I have noticed other videos since, that it was up for sale. I am glad to see Ivo still in good health, I wondered about why it was for sale.
Bonjour Philip and Tommy, I just found your channel this is my first video. I loved it and I am now subscribed. Thank you for taking us through the entire Chateau and outbuildings, a lot of people skip around, and I find myself saying what's behind that door they just passed by, so thank you again. I am looking forward to your next video, and excited about going to back to the beginning and catching up.
Bonjour! And Merci for your nice note and explaining your journey to our channel. It's so helpful to know how people found us, what people like, don't like, and want to see in the future! We were worried about making too long of a video, but there was so much to show for this one. I'm curious what you think of the next one -- it is similar in a way, but also quite different. We are trying to do our best to "waypoint" during the videos, so it's clear where we are, where we were, and where we are going during the tour, which isn't always so easy in these huge old world castles and chateaus! I appreciate the note and you joining us for the journey :)
That it is true because was the Neogothic fashion, partially inspired by Prosper Mérimée and Eugène Viollet-le-Duc, and many rich people built such things, also in USA. The advantage is that he places look old outside but inside was full XIX th century full comfort. In my castle's case is an original XII century one catalogued as National Heritage by french government/ "Monument Historique". Thanks and regards, Ivo
Incredible video, it's like stepping into a fairy tale. The history and architecture are absolutely mesmerizing. Thanks friend for taking us on this amazing adventure! We join your channel. Big Like 🏰🔍✨
Thank you! I’m glad we did it justice in your eyes. It is a truly spectacular property and was a dream to tour it in person. The new owner will be very lucky indeed! We have many more property tours to come- glad to have you in our little community! 🏰❤️
Thanks Yvette! So glad you enjoyed the chapel- it was one of the most special areas of the castle. It was lovely in there, but a bit hard to film with the delicate light from the stained glass windows. Enes and Mikey have way more experience with this so far we really appreciate the comparison! Would you like us to stick to castles and chateaus in the future or would you like to see other types of properties as well?
@philipwellsrealestate I think the places you film are perfect, just the right amount of quirkiness and style. But personally I think the older the building, the better because of the social history as well. Thank you very much for taking the time to answer.
@@yvetteghajari5792 Yes I tend to gravitate towards older places, or properties with an interesting story.!I’m very curious to hear what you think of the next one, then!! I appreciate your response, we are trying to make sure we continue to improve however we can.
Absolutely love this place simply incredible❤ just imagine the time and expertise needed to pack everything once it’s sold. This place is just enormous.
Jennifer. I am Ivo. Please, do not make me think about that. But, new plae will be better and...even more special, an old monastery, a charterhouse. Regards
This is an incredible castle! I love that you show all of the rooms and secret passages of the castle 🏰! I hate other peoples castle 🏰 tours that only show a tiny portion of the castle 🏰. I quit watching them if that happens...
Glad to hear it! This is longer than our typical style but we wanted to try to show it all. I’m glad people seem to like the longer style. I’m curious-did you watch it on TV, the computer, or your phone?
@@matthewrichter5709 got it! We’ve been seeing more and more TV viewers so I wanted to check, but glad you made it all the way through on a phone and it was comfortable
@philipwellsrealestate I also liked the longer format. Seeing just small % of these wonderful historical structures is quite disappointing. I also watched from phone.
Hello :) Well, i have to say how much i have appreciated the visit with the FUNNY and SMART guide ( if i am right, he is YOU, Sir Philip WELLS..) . You probably had a PREVIOUS Lifetime during a VERY OLD EPOQ under a Royal environment hehe :) It was refreshing at each point during the descriptive attitudes and detailed TALK ( sorry for my FAULTS in English, i am FRENCH, which is not really a good point for me hahaha ) ... I have to insist a LOT about the perceived QUALITY of the GUIDE...Really SMART / WELL EDUCATED indeed / FUNNY guy..My congrats to him ( no, i am not homosexual, haha )
I was amazed there wasn't any advertisements amongst this video. I watched this video free of advertisements & i am glad i did that was an amazing tour of this castle
Hello Seattlebeard, That would had been a great idea in the moment but monastery life is like in jail. You leave with the same things you entered in. But life in monastery gave me better vision on collecting. The sad things is that many of the monasteries I lived in were years later closed because lack of vocations and were given by free to local municipalities. My order had 7 monasteries in Egypt and all of them were abandoned; then...If I had knew that then I am sure I would had keep many books for me. Regards and do not hesitate to be curious. Ivo
Dear Janice, you are very right. There are 2 other castles in the region where different friends families are living together and ,if the people goes along well, is a clever way to have something special for less cost. Thanks and regards, Ivo
Wow. If (or when) I have the money I would collect properties like this instead of art. Imagine owning a collection of these, especially ones with a fairly manageable size (not Versailles lol). Living history.
Thank you! Glad to have you onboard. I know you make lots of videos (way more than I could tour in person) -- so when you find a truly amazing new listing, let me know and I can try to tour it in person
My thing is while the radiators might heat the bathrooms (maybe), there is no way they are heating any of the other rooms. You will definitely need to use those fireplaces.
Hello You are completely wrong there. Heating works fantastic and also hot water arrives immediately to any room and floor. Fireplaces are cute but it is a big job to be filling logs. Still 42 chemmines. Regards
@@ivofornesa513 In general, I agree with the concept, radiators are awesome and incredibly efficient, but I have lived in places with very thick concrete walls, and while they are fantastic in the summer because you will say cool, in the winter or even the fall, once they get cold, the room is cold, and deeply so. The real reason those fireplaces are so large is because they are heating the walls as well as that individual room as the heat moves up and through the castle walls.
I love it. You could have made it even longer and I would have been in heaven. Thank you very well done. Now I just need to find the cash to buy this property. Where is that cash? Anyway? Guide me in the right direction. I want this property.😊
Thanks for your advise and inputs .You clearly are an expert in historical properties, restauration and global economy. I will not hesitate a second to contact you for my next home. God bless you. Ivo
Hello, I am Ivo. I own the castle during 16 years. I want to sell because 2 reasons. First, my wife and 4 kids are all living in Asia and would like to be with them more often and, secondly, this castle is already finished and I have another old building, castle too, waiting to be fully restored. Believe me, to do so is not a busines at all but is very passionating and you constantly learn stuff, historical, arqueological, new techiniques, etc. Thanks and regards, Ivo
Hi! No, most of the furnishings and decor could transfer with the chateau for an additional million according to the owner. Specifics would have to be negotiated, of course!
There aren’t any elevators, although one could be installed in one of the other towers. Currently no AC either, but until recently most of the properties in the area haven’t ever had it. Plenty of ceiling height for air ducts and room for compressors on the roof though if the buyer wanted to add.
Hello, I am Ivo. In fact, around my place I know already 7 USA citizens who own very nice properties, 4 manors, one monastery and 2 castles Not difficult at all. Regards
Looks like a fun house to own, except for the low doorways. You'd be jogging around to get to and fro within the complex, then ram your head into the wall trying to get into a room. One supposes that it's a protected building and this is a feature which cannot be improved to take into consideration modern heights.
Good morning Yes, people are taller now but there are only 4 low doors in 3400 SQM One in the inside secondary entrance to castle 2 in the outdoor tower One in the comic book tower My kids are all 185 cm up and never an accident You get used and, as you very well mentioned, is part of the historical features of the place Thanks and regards. Ivo
@@ivofornesa513 No problem, thanks for the explanation. I guess that it was such an unusual feature, on those few portals, that it stood out particularly every time the presenter had to duck down, it made this feature, seem ubiquitous within the castle, when apparently it wasn't. Certainly, the children having never experienced an unfortunate cranial crunch, that's saying something about the space being easy to get used to navigating. There's so much going for the place too. I like the thickness of the walls, the idea of being able to withstand a barrage from trebuchet, is rather forward thinking, the way the world is going, heh.
The "Red Room" is called a *"Chinoiserie",* It is as it sounds and looks, a room that is suppose to look Chinese/Asian. The "Chapel" is an *"Oratory"* yes these are different things. Is the American "Den" in the garage? Is the dining room in the kitchen?
Hello, only the english tower has to be restored and already has all the electricity, water, heating and seawage pipes installed and the garden gallery toom but this is a very special project and I I have the plans doner. Those 2 buildings can be restored with public funds because is National Heritage but these taks are for the new owner. To buy a fully restored property is not interesting, each new owner should add a part of his/her soul in the place. The rest of the castle and dependances are completely finished and in perfect and modern conditions. Thanks and regards. Ivo
I do remember seeing Stephanie here touring with the owner, who said he used to be a monk. I don't know how he went from having nothing as a monk to owning this chateau. Mmmm?
Hello. Certainly not being a politician. Just working because before entering the monastery I got my degree in laws and also as geographer, I quitted monastic life with 30 years and now I have 66 , time enough to do some savings. Regards
Donald, You have my word this is not important. Taxes in the area are very low, only 108 euros per month, water is cheap and only expensive thing is heating but not because the price but for the size of the place. In anycase, I do not never heat because it is not so cold and cognac has miraculous effects. Thanks and regards. Ivo
@@ivofornesa513 Thank you for taking the time to reply. My concern would be the ongoing maintenance cost, e.g. stone, outbuildings, grounds, roof(s). You have led an interesting life and kudos to you for all you have accomplished.
Dear Mistygirl...I like the nickname. Are you an interior designer yourself? If you have ideas let me know. I love to know other people;s ideas. Now, do not be shy to do so. Thanks and regards. Ivo
*$4 million????* Does the castle come with all the furnishings, antique weapons, books, paintings, etc.? If not, how will Ivo sell all that stuff? One giant auction? ( I'm assuming he will be "downsizing". LOL!). And then the new owner will have a pretty intimidating decorating job ahead of him! I guess he could go to Ivo's auction and buy the lot, but at what price? That collection looks extremely valuable. And if Ivo leaves all those furnishings, antique weapons, books, paintings, etc. what's to stop the new owner from auctioning it all off for a huge profit? Is there some kind of contract in place whereby the buyer leaves the collection and passes it along when he sells? And truthfully, as a homeowner (of a much more modest house), I see owning this castle as hugely expensive and a lot of work in and of itself. The new owner must basically be a curator/historian, and willing to dedicate his life to maintenance. Looking after this seems all-consuming. Anyway... *UNBELIEVABLE* place... and a fantastic tour! Thanks!
Hello JR. Castle comesonly with the walls but I open to sell part of the furniture, not family stuff neither collections and specially not my books. In any case, some people prefers big empty extra minimalist spaces, clearly not me. Will be delighted to help new owner to find things to redecorate but I want to be paid with nice meals and dinners. Thanks and regards. Ivo
You are right and it is my fault. To be a collector is a real mental sickness as ludopaty could be. Specially when you are interested to learn abou the things you collect. But I am just selling the building. Regards. Ivo
