I was just there last week. My dad was in the Navy and we were stationed there from 82-86. It was sad to see so much gone. The asphalt roads still were intact that outlined the old housing development, so that was cool to walk those roads and visualize everything the way it was. The old gym, Shea Fitness Center, still stands but is all boarded up. I spent countless hours there. Great video. Thank you.
My dad was base security at the old Cecil Feild (Jacksonville, FL) that was closed and sold off in the 1990s under Clinton base closures. I went back there a coupla years ago and that place is now a nice active neighborhood with alot of Boeing people living there because the runways and hangers were sold off to Boeing.
I used to land on that particular runway while flying with VP-MAU’s P-3 Orions, circa 1985 through 1990 and worked at the base clinic while waiting for orders over the twenty year of my tenure as a U.S. Navy Hospital Corpsman (HM).
i go here quite frequently, its a really nice place to walk and its always cool seeing peoples reactions when i show them this place for the first time
Cool that you're living the dream and exploring this great historical area of New England. Keep yearning for more knowledge and keep discovering new gems 🤙🏼♥️
I live 10-minute walk from the South gate to South Weymouth Naval. I go a few times a week. Still finding new places to find after 10 years of visiting. I used to go to air shows with my dad.
As a kid growing up in the 50's in Quincy, I remember Huge blimps going across the horizon towards WNA. In later years, P-3 Orion's could be seen heading for the air station. In the 70's I saw the Blue Angles perform there. I went to WNA in 1971 to join the Marines. Lucky for me the Recruiters were on a day off, so, I joined the Army instead and had the time of my life.
probley said or not.... they out buildings look like distrubution houses for the field lighting. main power in break down to all the field lighting... also the channel in the floor is wire runs also called cable runs for server rooms and such .. but that one looks like wire runs to the field
Thank you! I’m sure you’re right, that does look like an electrical system that provided electricity for lighting and such. I appreciate the information!
When I was a kid my father refuel jet airplanes there occasionally took me along for the day awesome time been there a few times since awesome place even still rock on jMass
Hi J-Mass: Was in the navy as a second class petty officer in air traffic control. Spent time on the USS America and USS Wasp. In 1969 got stationed at Pensacola FL and 1970 got transferred to NAS South Weymouth. Live in Braintree MA. How cool is that. Finish your tour of duty one town over.
Those could have been Fire Pits for training of the Naval Air Station Fire Crash crew, I was lucky enough to get a Fire patch before they closed down the Air station
Good video. Yeah, it kinda sux the towers are sealed off. But its understandable why. I'm so glad you had those previous pics!! I would love to take a fast car for a rip out there! But unfortunately I'm rockin a 4cyl car right now, good on gas. But slow AF. 😂
Your video was awesome I love anything South Shore I grew up in Hingham and Weymouth in the 70s and 80s I'm sure you've been to the Hingham Cohasset Naval Annex that's a great place too anyway there's so much fun abandoned stuff in the South Shore I really enjoyed the video thanks so much
i was there last fall! thats a popular meetup spot for sport kite fliers, RC pilots and off road vehicles like tractors, unicycles and dirtbikes. i have a video on my channel of a unicycle drag racing a lawnmower here lol
Ive been here, went with my family one summer on our boat. I climbed to the top of one of the towers with my stepbrother. This mustve been around 2016. one of my favorite memories! one of the buildings had a ton of dead deer in it, I'm assuming the went there to die because its dark and cold and secluded.
There are many intact buildings still on the property in S. Weymouth. “The Hang Out” is actually filming a horror movie right now. You should do another explore as you have missed some of the other cool buildings and sports complexes. Check it out!
I live in Weymouth close to route 18(where you can go to Union point which is where this is) and have been here multiple times and have actually been chased out by some homeless people and deers before
At 8:41 there used to be a small building there at the base of the first tower crackheads used to sleep in it and stuff but crazy seeing this place on video years after the last time I was there
I had heard that during WWII some British bomber aircrew received training at Weymouth. I've also heard that a light bomber flying out of that air field crashed into Lake Quannapowett in Wakefield, MA. The crew were all safe and the wreckage removed but it was very difficult to find any information on the crash.. Have you heard anything about this? Thanks! Fun film!
Wow, that’s fascinating-nah, I never heard about that! I’m definitely going to have to research this, that’s truly interesting history. Thanks for sharing!
Great video, another place I"d never heard of. Bummer that the towers were sealed, but I get it. Government spent some $$$ building that tower and then just let it go to waste - typical.
I have photos of the inside of the tower and outside before kids ruined it if you want to see them. Took them back in 2010-2012. I'll send them to you on instagram. I also got photos from the inside of the old hangars, school and offices around the same time before they got torn down. Found a lot of cool stuff I saved from destruction. Hell, my profile pic is outside the older red tower wearing a WW2 gasmask I found in the office area on the second floor in a hidden room. I have several. I was one of the first people in that place the moment the Navy and Coast Guard left and I've been going back basically every other week since.
I go their a lot of times, fun fact they filmed the patriots day marathon filming and they did NOT filmed the Watertown fight and the female ghost busters movie street scene I have a buddy that build f1 thunder chefs their
I was really looking forward to climbing up the control towers this weekend, until now😢 I’m just looking for some cool spots to bring my camera and be at peace
I feel ya! I was wicked upset when I got there and noticed that everything was sealed shut… climbing up into those towers was one of my favorite urbex experiences!
Hello, we enjoyed your story on the Weymouth abandoned air station. Is there a legal entrance to get on the property to do videos? Too bad the 2 towers we're boarded up. Lastly, what type of camera equipment do you use for your videos? We just use our phones or our GoPro 5 black.
Thanks! The property is actually wide open, and used quite frequently by pedestrians and cyclists; from everything I understand, it is a public property that anybody can use. I usually just parallel park right on the street by the airfield. Also, I just use my iPhone 11 to film, haha! Nothing too fancy, but it gets the job done.
@@j-mass yeah, that's great to know. In July we're going to Vermont to do a video location of the Beetlejuice movie. We heard that the covered bridge in the movie was temporary and was relocated.
Hey there. This is the first time I've seen your channel. I haven't seen any of your more recent videos, so maybe your style has changed a bit. I like the way you "film" things, although sometimes I wish you'd slow down for a moment to let the viewer take the whole scene in instead of panning quickly to the next thing. When I see an abandoned room filled with interesting things, I naturally want to gaze at it for a few seconds and notice details. Also, please don't take this the wrong way... This is just my personal preference, but this video would appeal to me a lot more if you talked less. You're well spoken, but part of what appeals to me in urbex videos is taking in the stillness and natural sounds of a place. The crickets as you're moving between buildings may seem insignificant, but the serene desolation and stillness of a scene are what really charm me when I watch urbex. I know you worked hard on this, so thank your for your content - I appreciate it.
Thank you so much for taking the time to write this out, I appreciate it! Any and all criticism is welcome, and encouraged! I’ve definitely received some criticism for my cinematography skills… 😂 that’s something I’ve really been trying to improve upon, as I was pretty shaky and quick when I was first starting out. I’m sure I still have room to improve, but seeing some of my older videos, it was pretty rough! And you do make an interesting point about the talking! I guess, because I grew up / was influenced watching urbexers who narrated their experiences, that led me to do the same-but I understand the appeal that you’re interested in! Again, thank you so much for this comment!
There aren’t any gates blocking it, and you can just walk right in as a pedestrian, but I’m not sure about motorcycles specifically. However, I have seen people access it via bicycles and skateboards…
If they are doing a movie, security will just kick you out, same with the cops if someone complains. As long as you don't run when they try to ask you to leave you'll be fine. Although they have put up no trespassing signs and stuff as of late so maybe they are getting stricter but I know driving out there was just a slap on the wrist and a please leave beforehand
I was running at the airfield at like 3:30 am one morning, There was NOBODY there.i had to pee so i went in the trees then went back to running, like 20 minutes later cops show up. Long story short someone in middle of the night decided call the cops cuz i peed in the trees. I didn't get arrested or anything thank Christ but i was like "who does that?"
@@j-mass I'm from Southie but was living down that way when I got out of Walpole. The really weird thing is the same thing happened to my father in law. He was running there , had to piss cops come. I don't know if there is some weird lurker just waiting for people to pee. I dont piss outside generally I'm not 8 years old but sometimes when you're running you gotta go.
This is the first video I’ve ever watched from you……. And I will say that if I ever watch another one from you where you’re looking over my shoulder…. By that I mean, you’re looking at your face on the screen instead of looking in the lens, If I watch another video from you and you’re not making eye contact with me, I will not subscribe to your channel
That is true, I tend to do that a lot! I film on an iPhone camera, so I find myself looking directly at my face on the screen a lot, rather than into the camera-it’s tricky to correct myself from doing that in the moment!
As a frequent online urban exploration enthusiast... I absolutely love seeing video of old equipment, switches, circuits, furniture, paperwork, woodwork.. and it means just as much to me as the abandoned buildings and layout themselves. Good keep up the good work!
