What’s your favorite area to explore in the Olympic Peninsula? For those who haven’t been yet, what’s top on your list?

Just discovered Deer Park this past fall. What a cool area! Went there and then we drove to the ocean beaches. From sky to sea in three hours. Not many places in the US that you can do that. Looking forward to your premier (and DavidJenk253’s) this weekend. Thanks for your videos!
@ConquestOverland

@@richpatton4487 Right on! Deer Park is incredible! Only been there once on a day trip but the views were simply stunning, fun road up there too 😉. But yes, the PNW is truly amazing for the vast landscapes offered. Looking forward to both premieres and chatting with everyone, should be a great time!

I just moved to Olympia and I will love to explore the Olympic Peninsula, I have a 2021 F-150 FX4 with a leveling kit and 34” tires so pretty much stock, can you please recommend me an app or webpage to find these routes? Google maps doesn’t help LOL

Wasn’t gonna comment but just a tip from an old logger, young men. On a suspended log that is bridged (supported on both ends) you make your first cut from the top about half way through then finish cutting from the bottom. As the cut deepens it will open up and you won’t pinch your bar. Good effort though and an enjoyable video! Great area to explore. Used to live near there and enjoyed it a lot. (PS, could’ve used your small axe to shape a wedge to release the bar from the pinch. You’d be surprised how well a wooden wedge or two works! )
@ConquestOverland
@ConquestOverland 3 года назад
Appreciate the tips!
@genxiong2695
@genxiong2695 3 года назад
I disagree with you. With a log suspended at an angle like that first cut should be bottom half way and finish off with top to avoid pinch. It's basic geometry angle. If you start from the top and try to cut half way it will definitely pinch (gravity pulls middle or cut portion down and both ends of the tree will angle up creating the pinch). That was exactly what happened. When he first cut from the bottom he should have continue cutting half way but he decided to switched to the top and that's when it pinch. I don't think you were an old logger. If so, a very bad one for sure.
@mtnman4766
@mtnman4766 3 года назад
@@genxiong2695 🤣. You are so wrong my friend. Don’t know how many logs you’ve cut but if you feel finish your cut from the top the log settles and that’s what pinches. The cut will open from the bottom no matter what your flawed “geometry calculations” tell you. I made a good living in the woods for years, hope you’re not a “ professional mathematician! Thanks for the “polite” response attacking my opinion. You obviously have limited social skills. Get some counseling.
@johnmadsen37
@johnmadsen37 3 года назад
Just cut fro the bottom up until it starts to split and fall, making space. Then decide to continue bottom up or finish for the top. Depends on tour endurance and how many you have to cut Ie all day would be tough lifting the saw but a one time, bottom up on,y is just fine. Just keep your arms and legs as close to the moving blade as possible and press the saw while moving directly with your n Hand

Narrator: “as neither of us had a wedge.” Chainsaw operator: pulls out and axe and begins chopping. Me: The axe is a wedge. Why are you using your wedge to chop instead of using it to release the bar and chain? Sticks also work great as wedges, but put them in place before you get wedged next time and you’ll save the day.
@duckshaker
@duckshaker 3 года назад
Good point about the axe being a wedge, but it may not have been adequate to free the bar. Using it might have given them one more problem!

Funny how nature can quickly change the best-laid plans. Maybe that's the beauty of the wild world, we need things in our lives that we can't control to remind us that we're just a small part of a fragile worldwide ecosystem that we have no right to destroy. This video has great drone work taking advantage of beautiful scenery. I'm glad you were able to capture it and share it with people around the world. It's an experience that might not be around for many more generations.
