I’d been dying to get into this building since 2017 when I was working on the north side of the First Horizon building just across the street. I was an intern and barely ever had work to do, so I started learning about this insane Gothic skyscraper directly out my window.
After years of meeting people who’d made their way in but could not help me do the same, I finally made the right connection last fall to make it happen.
The Sterick is a place stuck in time. I’m a sucker for nostalgia and classic Americana, so I really enjoyed exploring it. It has old wood paneling, shag carpets, ornate fixtures, and things you don’t ever see in today’s minimalist architecture and interior design. The intricacies and attention detail is what makes buildings from this era stand out so much. I wish we’d never gotten away from that. Not the shag carpets lol, but putting creativity and care into things that people spend most of their lives in, aka your workplace and your home.
I’ve very excited to see what will happen with this building because it would be much better served with people in it, rather than pigeons (and there are a TON).
DISCLAIMER: Please do not attempt to enter this building by yourself as it is heavily secured (and illegal), and please do not ask me to take you in. I was given access by building ownership.
