Exploring an Abandoned Trapper Cabin in the Rocky Mountains

The Backwoods Boys ran across an abandoned trapper cabin while exploring the Rocky Mountains this summer and spent some time exploring the craftsmanship that went into building this remote outpost cabin. Reminiscent of the dugout shack of the Mad Trapper of Rat River, the log cabin shares a lot of similarities with the historic cabins of the boreal forest on their own trapline, yet it is unique in several ways, making for a fascinating exploration tour. Check it out with us, and let us know if you can identify the unknown component hanging on either end of the cabin.

Those old boys knew what they were doing back in the day. Very nice find. You could probably get the cabin back up with a little work. It looks solid still.

We're glad you enjoy this as well; there's just something so neat about finding old trapping cabins and seeing the incredible craftsmanship that went into them. Thanks for watching!

Neat little trappers cabin. Whoever did that had plenty of experience.

Absolutely! It's largely a lost art nowadays, especially all of the manual work with an axe. It's sure cool running across these little pieces of history.

Lot of hard work. I bet the trapper was proud of it

I bet so too. I can imagine he spent a lot of freezing winter nights holed up in there, glad he spent to time to build it the way he did!

Hey, how you been? Married life seems to be agreeing with you. Love these old cabins. I really regret giving up my rural property. My new long term dream is to build a cabin somewhere up north for recreational use. Merry Christmas to you guys and the family. Take care and thanks for the video.

Married life is very good! Between outfitting this fall for bears and deer, and working on my (Dale) CWD project, we've been keeping busy, which is good but has unfortunately put a dent in our RU-vid time! We're hoping to remedy that now. That is an excellent dream; there is something very healthy for the body and soul to have a cabin out in the wilderness! Merry Christmas to you as well!

Unfortunately life gets in the way of RU-vid once in a while haha. Between a summer of forest fires (almost lost cabins and lost a large part of the trapline forest), and a fall of outfitting (bears and deer) it's been tough to find time to edit videos. Hoping to fix that now though!
