Hello, Eh up and how ya Didlin? In todays video we are Exploring Ancient springs and Holy wells of Leicestershire, mainly in North west Leicestershire and the outskirts of Loughborough for this one today. This is only part one, so keep your eyes out for part 2. Im facinated by water and where it comes from, and lets be honest, this day and age we have it easy in terms of where our water comes from...Out the tap!
But relatively speaking, it wasn't all that long ago, that we were walking down the road with buckets fetching the wet stuff from the village well.
And not only that, it wasn't always about drinking either, people would travel from miles around to bath in what were known as Holy wells, and you will see two Holy wells in todays video.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy it! Cheers, Steve X

Love this place, a little further down from the holy well, there used to be a farm. The house stood empty and abandoned for years, the snowdrops and daffs from the former garden still come up in spring and it’s lovely. I love the little archway and there are old pipes all around the weir. P. S. I walked up the brook once and it was quite deep in places.

Loved it Steve. There's a nice little spring/well in Blackfordby too. Fascinating to think these were one of the most important places in each village for centuries and yet we barely take any notice now.

Just found you, I also am a lover of water and wells. We have a well in our back garden, sadly it’s it’s had rubbish put down there over the years (not by us of course).

I got a mention, I am famous (not) great video Steve once again. Glad that you found it. We should Bottle that water and start flogging it. Apparently it produces about 15000 gallons a day.

Nearby to the Loughborough Holywell there is another interesting old part of wood brook. Where it passes garendon green there is an old concrete section that was flooded in the summer months for a paddling pool, although documented info is sparse
