Exploring and Eating in Buenos Aires. An Incredible City!

I showcase my experience traveling to and exploring the city of Buenos Aires in Argentina. I first explain my difficulties of getting to Buenos Aires, but then things improved. My first priority was to get money with the “Blue Dollar” rate from Western Union. Then I started exploring the streets of Buenos Aires and was amazed with the gigantic trees at Plaza del Congreso and the beautiful architecture. I then ate a fantastic lunch of empanadas from La Americana Empanadas (La Americana). After that I checked out the iconic Plaza de Mayo. Later, I explored the most beautiful bookstore in the world, El Ateneo Grand Splendid. Then I have a quick espresso at Posta before checking out the Obelisco and the widest street in the world, Avenida 9 de Julio. After that, I have dinner at Mostaza, a popular fast food restaurant chain in Argentina. Finally, I watch an opera at Teatro Colón for a very affordable price.

I spent 5 weeks in Argentina in 2022 and watching this almost made me cry. I fell in love with the country and the people. Buenos Aires is my favorite city in the world. Also, if you get a change, go to the North of Argentina - mainly Salta and Jujuy. These regions are absolutely STUNNING!

As an argentinian….I was planning to go to Salta but then I watched videos on youtube and stayed home…. A boaring landscape after 60 minutes driving…and coyas selling cheap stuff with a Visa sign behind them…terrible. Not going.

@@leonardoiglesias2394 60min? I spent almost 2.5h driving from Salta to Humahuaca. Yes, there are tourist traps along the way, but they are far from the annoying ones we have here in Europe. This region is all about the landscape and the villages along the way. Have you been to Maimarà or Iruya? They're gorgeous and so worth the long drive.

Please don’t hesitate and go! I am sure you would love it, for many years I went there for work and now I go there for pleasure, without a doubt the architecture is a mix of Paris and Madrid. The Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires is one of the most important opera houses in the world. Its rich and prestigious history and the exceptional acoustic and architectural conditions of its building place it at the level of theaters such as the Scala in Milan, the Paris Opera, the Vienna Opera, Covent Garden in London and the Metropolitan in New York. Throughout its history, no important artist of the 20th century has failed to set foot on its stage. Suffice it to mention singers like Enrico Caruso, Claudia Muzio, Maria Callas, Régine Crespin, Birgit Nilsson, Plácido Domingo, Luciano Pavarotti, dancers like Vaslav Nijinski, Margot Fonteyn, Maia Plisetskaia, Rudolf Nureyev, Mijail Barishnikov, directors like Arturo Toscanini, Herbert von Karajan, Héctor Panizza, Ferdinand Leitner, among dozens more. It is also common that, following the tradition inaugurated by Richard Strauss, Camille Saint-Saëns, Pietro Mascagni and Ottorino Respighi, composers come to the Colón to direct or supervise the premieres of their own works. Finally, since 2010, the Teatro Colón exhibits a building restored in all its original splendor, giving a framework of distinguished hierarchy to its presentations. For all these reasons, the Teatro Colón is a pride of Argentine culture and a reference center for opera, dance and academic music around the world.

I'm glad you've enjoyed your stay and shared such gorgeous views and reviews of my hometown with the world. Concerning your choice of food and places to eat, I think it's natural to search for what's familiar in a new city or country, especially if it's your first time or you don't speak the local language. Something similar happened to me when I visited Paris and I ate at McDonald's many times because it was handy and open 24 hours and I knew what I would get, not because I wasn't interested in trying local eats. And just for the records, I'm not American and these days I may have fast food only once in a while. ☺

Thank you! Yeah, these first two days weren't the best ones regarding food, but I didn't mind it. I don't want to be rude, but you are in one of the best capitals in the world due to its culture and mainly because of its people. If you are going to explore it you have to really do it, I mean, go to cafes and restaurants that are not international chains (i think they are cuter and cheaper, sometimes). go to its parks (Japanese garden) and the "Rosedal" garden, could be some ideas. You also have a lot of museums and soccer stadiums that make this capital distintive from others. Also there is tourist buses to see the city that offer the narration in your native language so you understand what surrounds you, that could be practical i think. You also have bioparks like "Temaiken" , guided walks through the government's own tourism page, which is why they are not that expensive, the buildings that you fell in love with such as the Barolo palace, for example (the most beautiful and emblematic in my opinion, they offer you a guided tour that you can pay on the spot and it's not that expensive, you can go up to its dome and see the whole city, it looks beautiful and you can do this with others ones as "Otto Wulff" or even the cultural center) there is A LOT to do in Bs As. You even have nearby coastal cities such as Mar del Plata (beautiful) but it would be better in summer or spring and you would also have to visit other uniques provinces such as Misiones, Salta, Mendoza, Cordoba that have specific tourist spots that are beautiful and due to inflation and the exchange rate respect to the dollar, arent that expensive for an American, very cheap for such amezing experiences, indeed. I hope you take it as advice not criticism and also I hope that you enjoy your stay in our country, great video!!

Still, I really enjoyed the city. It just has so much to offer from the architecture, museums, nature, parks and food. I definitely ate better in my days following this one. First of all, I can’t believe you ate at McDs and Starbucks for your first two meals?!? I have been to BA twice, once for 3 months and 2 months. I am going back in January for a month. The last time I was there was 2019 and the blue rate wasn’t that drastically different but now inflation is just crazy. How hard was WU to get money? Did you have to set up anything ahead of time back home before you went to BA? I don’t know if I want to do a Camino or WU? I did the Opera House tour when I went the first time. It was so informative and beautiful. Plus at the end they gave us free tix to dress rehearsal of “Porgy and Bess” for that night. I had to go home and eat and change clothes. The first time, as depicted in this video, it wasn't a problem and took only about 20 minutes. My second time I waited over an hour in line to get money, but that was because it was after a long weekend with a holiday and Western Union was closed. Hello! Thank you for this video and for enjoying this country, it's indeed very beautiful and I look forward to your next video. Ignore the haters lol, it's typical to go to familiar places when traveling, when I went to NY the first thing I did was go to Starbucks, and Mc was practically all I ate in Paris XD. The main issues of why everybody here is so sensitive about the "continent thing" would be 1) the separation feels like a purposeful effort from countries from the north to separate themselves from latin America, like they don't want to be seen with us (I know, it's silly but it feels like that sometimes), 2)the other reason is because it gives usamericans the excuse to call themselves "Americans", thus erasing everybody else who also belongs to the American Continent and it's therefor also "American". But yeah, it's just a pet peeve here, we know it is taught in different ways and most of you don't mean any harm when saying it
@Jamesnu
@Jamesnu 11 месяцев назад
Thank you so much for the kind words! I really appreciate it! Yeah, there's nothing wrong with eating something your familiar with. Sometimes traveling to such a new place one may want a level of familiarity by going to a restaurant they're used to. I spent almost two weeks in Argentina and I knew that I would get the chance to enjoy more local food and I certainly did after my first two days. It doesn't bother me about how one counts the number of continents and I can see how one could get upset by the labels, but I understand where people come from. And thank you for providing some context to the situation. It seems like mostly everyone's intentions are good and everyone is always entitled to share their opinions.

There are even better pizzerias in BA. Haven't you tried world famous grill restaurants and Ice-cream? Weren't you at a soccer stadium or a night club? There is a bigger tree in Retiro.

Luckily these were just my first two days of my nearly 2 week trip in Buenos Aires so I definitely got to experience much better food and I got to do a lot more. I never got to a soccer stadium though, but hopefully I can travel back to Buenos Aires someday. I really enjoyed it there!
