Thanks for the guide James! I'll be passing through there when going to Boston from New York City, and I guess I'm stopping there for a few hours to explore New Haven, Connecticut.
I'll be travelling from Belgium to the US in September. What a coincidence that I'll be staying at the same hotel! Planning to do NYC, New Haven, Providence, Boston, Philly, Baltimore, DC. Watched your video on Providence too and picked up a couple of things from there too so thank you!
Great video! I'm from Connecticut and love New Haven. There's a lot to see and a lot of different cuisines from all over the world for a smaller city.. Plus we do have the best pizza here.. BAR also has good pizza...Hope you come back soon)
I was in new haven Connecticut last weekend, my bf grew up there we went to visit his family we are in pennsylvania, nice drive from pa to Connecticut 84 east and west, the buildings there are beautiful and we like to explore the green and also the ocean ❤️
Great exploration of the neighbourhood James! To bad about the down pour. You can never predict what the weather will do - that’s Mother Nature! Amazing video as usual!
Hey James, thanks for visiting Elm City. I truly appreciate the love you giving us. So many people say a lot bad things about my city but this video was very positive and the world needs to know all the good things about New Haven. Please come again you are always welcome.
as a new havener, i would like to argue that sally’s pizza is the best in the city. pepe’s changed ownership and they’re just not good anymore. if i were to rank the big three it would have to go: sally’s modern pepe’s
I've been there twice and never encountered the creepy bridge. Next time I go I want to walk that creepy bridge! Great video James, very well made and dramatic. Like a short story full of urban adventure.
@@Jamesnu BTW, that bird was an American Oystercatcher. I watch them nest every year at Nickerson Beach, a protected sanctuary for those birds. We have a lot of them here on Staten Island too.
Thank you! Absolutely! However, I just wanted to make the most of my time so I just dealt with the extra hassle of baggage instead of making an extra trip.
You definitely missed out on some of the best tacos in the world by not going to the trucks. When you were at long wharf?. I was born and raised here. The Long Wharf taco trucks are known by every person who eats tacos as a not so well kept secret now. They have been parking and selling tacos for over 25 years. I remember seeing the trucks there when I was very young..like the late 80s early 90s
Darn, I wish I knew that! It would've been perfect to enjoy some tacos along the wharf. I can't remember the exact time, but it was maybe an hour or so before sundown. Next time I'm in New Haven, I'll keep that in mind.
One thing you didn't see, because it was too far to walk and you probably didn't have time: The Peabody Museum of Natural History on Whitney Avenue. It has that famous huge painted dinosaur mural on the wall - worth the admission price by itself. If you ever get back there, do check it out; it's worth it. Very short bus ride from downtown.
@@Jamesnu When I was a kid, every few months my dad would take me there on a Sunday afternoon. I never got tired of it. I don't think he did, either. I remember the diorama with the South Sea Islander twirling his sling shot, the Inca child mummy, the huge pre-historic turtle skeleton, the gems on the third floor, in short, a classic, dead rich white guys' turn-of-the 19th Century museum. Loved it!
@@MrRezillo It's nice to have those kinds of memories connected to a place like that. I'm really looking forward to the next time I'm in New Haven to check it out.
You are very lucky to make it through New Haven CT, considering that this is one of the most dangerous cities in CT. Very high crime rate in that town.
Great video. That creepy bridge was built over the railroad tracks to reconnect downtown with the waterfront. Definitely not the most welcoming bridge, and it lands you at I-95 so, as you said, there's still the task of getting to the actual waterfront. Perhaps they should consider a big dig like they did in Boston making 95 a tunnel along the wharf. 🤷
Thank you! Yeah, that would be an interesting project. I didn't mind the trek that much. After all, it was my first time exploring the city so everything was new.
James, I am officially addicted to Haven Hot Chicken after your review. I am from the area but I never got a chance to try it. After your review, it became a mission. I became a fan after the first sandwich. Thanks for this and all your great reviews!
I didn't get to see the SHU game, but I am finally going this Saturday to see Yale play Columbia! Also, besides in the city, there are the attractions outside the city as well. One of them in my opinion is Connecticut's best state park, Sleeping Giant State Park.@@Jamesnu
i really enjoyed the more private- ish parts where you talked like into the camera in the hotelroom. In this way the storm was a plus. When`s dem appartement tour video poppin? :)
high quality content, variety of themes, personal stuff, inspiring, exploring, everything. your channel is very much that. Why clean first? Serve cleaning your appartment! :)
@@borispeper6981 That makes me happy to hear! Thank you! Yeah, I'll definitely do an apartment tour soon. It's also the fact that I've filmed a lot of other videos and I want to edit and post them first.
A "nice" city? That's a good one. Compared to what, Mogadishu? Other than Wooster St. "apizza", and "Yale"(well, in the olden days), there's not much to recommend.
After watching this, I know more about what this guy ate, from the yogurt to the pizza, than New Haven itself. Also I suspect he can't read a map, cause he couldn't find the marina, which is accessible from his hotel.
@@Jamesnu this is true. It’s downtown too esp in 2021 things aren’t the greatest in the city right now . We just had a woman commit suicide by jumping in front of a city bus sadly. But there are very beautiful parts of the city no doubt. Just be vigilant
Just 3 years ago ( pre- defund police liberal policies emboldening criminals to feel they rule), we went to New Haven and felt reasonably safe. Fast forward to now, we didn't feel safe practically anywhere but the pizza areas, and crossing the city streets from the train exit to the green seemed like a murder would take place any second. The CVS on the corner seemed to be headquarters for drug deals and the homeless to get their showers. I've never smelled more pot than at a Grateful Dead show. Once we saw what was going in and out of that CVS, we turned back and got the hell out. I guess the whole Green area is now off limits. Nothing is worth getting shot over. One day, these prosecutors who don't prosecute, may realize what they've done to American cities, but for now, most are off limits to people who choose to stay alive. When somebody has a travel video ( this video) that says " if I may it back alive", that tells all
A nice city, huh? apparently you don’t know about New Haven. Try going into Newhallville, The Hill section, Fair Haven, Brookside, West Hills, Kensington Square and see if it’s a “ Nice City”.
