Exploring CHIPSTEAD VILLAGE | Surrey

I’m taking a little stroll around the ancient Village of Chipstead in North Surrey (spelt in the Domesday Book of 1086 as ‘Tepestede’). The Village spread across the slopes and crests of a northern section of the North Downs with parts adjoining the Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. I take a look at the ancient Well sourced from underground Springs in the area and walk around the Grade I listed St Margaret’s Church, a site which has had a place of Worship since at least ADE 675 (and possibly much earlier prehistoric settlement).

Nice day for a stroll around Chipstead. I live in Sydney now, but this was a great 'escape' from my housing estate as a young man. I never think of Chipstead as a true village as it has no traditional cluster of pub, shops, post office etc. The pond and White Hart pub I guess is the centre. St Margs is almost in Hooley. There is a great Farm Shop a little way out of Chipstead along the lane to Mugswell where I bought my aging dad (former phamacist in Coulsdon Boots) some sausages that he claimed were the best he'd ever had.

Nice to see views of Chipstead. I will try that pub you mentioned next time I’m passing. Pity about the wind noise, despite the ‘dead cat’. I would have thought you would have deal with that by now. Nevertheless it’s good someone is promoting Surrey’s beauties. Thanks.
