Boa tarde Miguel, simplesmente espetacular, não imaginava que havia um sítio arqueológico romano tão rico em detalhes aí em Portugal, os mosaicos estão bem preservados apesar dos milhares de anos, realmente é um local a ser visitado sem dúvidas, apesar de apenas 10% está descoberto, imagine o quanto ainda está por vir a tona com as escavações. E pode fazer vídeos também fora de Portugal, afinal a história é interligada independente dos países estarem a fazer fronteiras ou não.. Parabéns pelo vídeo e tenha uma ótima semana 🤝👏

Há muitos anos , fui visitar Conímbriga. Hoje, a recuperação/construção é enorme! Quem não conhece o passado, não pode entender o presente. A melhor maneira de agradecermos, por tudo o que nos ensinaram, a este povo e a outros ,por exemplo os árabes é preservar a presença deles. Obrigada, mais uma vez ,por este vídeo especial. 💚

An additional information: the Suebi, the germanic people that destroyed Conimbriga founded the Suebian kingdom whose capital was Braga. This kingdom was the first part of the Roman Empire to declare its independence from Rome. They were the seed of the future Kingdom of Portugal. Today the north of Portugal is where there is the biggest concentration of germanic toponimics in the Iberian Peninsula. The Suebi are often overlooked by the historians.

I had heard of Conimbriga, but didn't realize that it was so EXTENSIVE. Very impressive. As to filming in other countries, I think you actually mentioned a while back that you might be filming in Spain. I will definitely follow you if you film outside of Portugal. Thanks for all your efforts.

Hi Miguel, I meant to write last week... but I had to watch this on the TV - it's just too good to look at on my laptop screen! What a fascinating look at history! When I was little I wanted to be an Archeologist. I was always digging around in the dirt, looking for things, ha ha. It's incredible work that they do, don't you think? Thank you so very much for showing us this site... another place on my ever growing list of must-see places. What a beautiful area! It reminds me a bit of home, in the summertime. I am glad to know that there are areas I can travel to, right in Portugal, when I feel a little home-sick. Those mosaic tiles are incredible. It's interesting to see the colours they used back then. Did they name the houses based on historical information or how they think (or know) they were used? Another fascinating thing are those underground heating systems. When you think of how primitive some people lived back then... it makes you wonder how they did it. Oh, and absolutely YES! I'd gladly watch your videos of travel to Italy and Greece! Hello Jen, how are you? 😊😊 I too toyed with the idea of becoming an Archeologist, back in my student days. But common sense won in the end and I chose finance and accounting. The job prospects of an archeologist in Portugal are not great, to say the least. I think they named the houses based on easily identifiable features, like the swastika cross, the fountains, the old cemetery with skeletons, etc. Cantaber was an important aristocrat of Conimbriga in the 5th century, so it was assumed that the largest private residence in the town was his, hence the name House of Cantaber. The interesting thing about the Roman Empire is that they were not primitive at all (same can be said about Ancient Greece). In many aspects they were ahead of their time by at least a thousand years. Engineering, architecture... But then came the Middle Ages and European civilization regressed. Boa noite Jen! 😃

This is a delightful video. My fascination with things Roman has to do with several circumstances of my life, but also with my efforts to come to terms with my own mortality. Seeing the grand Roman structures in ruin reassures me that the brevity of my existence on this planet is not really worth lamenting about. I spent a total three months in the Eternal City, exploring it on foot. I even wrote a book about it. I consulted many primary and secondary sources about its history and archaeology. Yet, I feel I have only started my excursion into the vast field of knowledge represented by the history and archaeology of Rome. I would love to go to Rome again. There are so many things that I have to see for the first time or to see again. If you ever go to Rome, make sure you securely attach your camera to yourself. The thieves of Rome are incredibly skilled! In 2012 I was standing in front of Porta San Pancrazio, a very special moment for me. There I lowered my guard the only time that day. I mean I placed the camera in the bag I had on my shoulder, with the tripod contracted, but still attached to it. I said to my self that it was safe to do that. After all, I walked for a long time on the Via del Gianicolo and nothing happened. But while walking, the tripod was not protruding out of my bag. This time the legs of the tripod were protruding. I did not feel when a man riding a motorbike grabbed the camera by the tripod and sped away. A few minutes later two policemen happened to walk in that area. After hearing my story, they said that the thieves of Rome were 'abilissimi' and left me behind to take care of my misery on my own. I had to buy another camera. Luckily, I only lost some pictures from Bologna and pictures from Rome. I was able to retake a few of those from Rome. So be careful in Rome. Do not lower your guard, does not matter how enthused you are by what you see. Thanks for the Conimbriga video!

Hello Daniel! 😊 I'm glad you enjoyed the video, I was curious about your opinion! It's interesting you mention your efforts to come to terms with my own mortality as one of the reasons to become interested in the Roman period. While I was filming, I felt a little bit of "sadness", a nostalgic sense of longing for a past I have never lived. I was imagining children playing, couples falling in love, bakers baking bread... All those people, who were just like us, are gone and I'm filming the ruins of their houses... We are just a tiny grain of sand in the great desert of time. Thank you for the heads up regarding Rome! I also keep the filming gear attached to me, if someone wants to take my camera they'll have to take my arm as well. 😅

Eu só vi Conimbríga do alto da torre da Universidade de Coimbra através de um telescópio preso na grade,para se ver ao longe. Mas as escavações não estavam tão adiantadas.Faz muitos anos.

Another fascinating video. It is interesting to see that the English translation of esqueletos used qu rather than k. This is the first time I have seen something that was written pre the Orthographic Agreement which added k, w and y to the Portuguese alphabet.

Eu já visitei 2 vezes, porque meus bisavós sao de Espírito Santo de Soure, bem pertinho de Conimbriga. Dizem que o castelo de Soure foi construído com as pedras de Conimbriga. Mas isso nao sei se e’ verdade.😊

Здравей, Мигел! Не знаех, което е мой пропуск, че в Португалия има толкова добре запазени обекти от Римската империя. Конимбрига си е цялостен архитектурен комплекс и ми беше много интересно да го разгледам. В родният ми град Пловдив, България, имаме много римски паметници - театър от 2 век, построен от император Траян, който сега се ползва активно за културни цели и побира 5000 зрители, част от стадион, одеон, библиотека, римски стени, улици, порти, мозайки и др. Ще радвам да имаш възможността да снимаш и други места извън страната ти, пак ще е много интересно. А защо не и в България. Засега ще вървим по твоите стъпки и ще се наслаждаваме на прекрасната Португалия! Сърдечно от Пловдив, Марта😍👋

É bem parecido com a bandeira do Brasil! 😊 Sim, embora as escavações não decorram todos os dias, irão continuar ainda por muitas décadas, imagino eu. Existiram missões de escavação em 2021 e também em 2022, é algo que só terminará quando estiver tudo visível. Exceto o anfiteatro, que infelizmente tem uma povoação por cima... 😐 Grande abraço!

Pena chegou a Idade Média que acabou com tantas maravilhas que eles construíram. Mas, Espetacular esse sítio, história pura, muito emocionante de se ver. Quando o vídeo começou logo me lembrei de Pompeia. E qto a vc fazer vídeos em outros lugares da Europa seria maravilhoso, existem inúmeros sitios principalmente na Espanha e Itália que seriam verdadeiras viagens no tempo e na história!!! Miguel boa tarde. Aproveitando seu vídeo fui a Coimbra e no meu último dia de estada consegui ir a Conimbriga. Tive a sorte de pegar um taxi que me levou até lá. Um local tão especial assim deveria ter linhas diretas de ônibus. Estive lá na semana passada. Não há palavras que descrevam bem o local. Emocionante. Como acho que falei antes tenho 75 anos e estou sozinha dependendo de transporte público. Até agora tem sido satisfatório. Estou agora em Viseu.

Existe um autocarro da TRANSDEV que parte do centro de Coimbra às 9.30 e 12.30 com um único retorno às 13.25 à semana e às 13.55 ao fim de semana. Existem outros mais frequentes para a vila de Condeixa-a-Nova a 2km, daí ou para aí pode-se apanhar táxi (convém sempre consultar o site da Transdev porque os horários podem mudar). Na alternativa, existem empresas turísticas que fazem visitas guiadas.

Olá Virgínia! 😊 Sim, Coimbra nasceu a partir de Conímbriga. Haviam 2 cidades Romanas ne mesma região e no mesmo período: Conímbriga e Aeminium. Quando Conímbriga foi invadida, já no fim do Império Romano, os habitantes fugiram para Aeminium, mas mudaram o nome dessa cidade para Conímbriga, como lembrança da cidade da sua cidade natal. Essa "nova" Conímbriga evoluiu, cresceu e deu então origem à Coimbra dos nossos dias. 😊 Ainda hoje os habitantes de Coimbra são chamados de Conimbricences. É difícil dizer com certeza se os mosaicos romanos influenciaram a calçada Portuguesa (surge no fim do século 15/início de 16), mas é possível que sim. Uma boa semana!

Bom--dia conheci Conímbriga nos anos 60 mas nada tinha a ver com a actual vídeo.Apenas un petit remarque ?? Os Alanos Suevos e Visigodos ficaram na história como povos Bárbaros mas aqui são referidos como povos germânicos.Un chat c'est un chat 😼!!Anyway vielen dank por esta magnífica lição de História good Luck Ciao

Olá José! 😀 Eu lembro-me de ir a Conimbriga nos anos 80, quando era criança, e também estava bem diferente. Pouco a pouco os arqueologos vão descobrindo mais coisas, só cerca de 10% da cidade é que está à vista, ainda há muito para desenterrar. Sim, os Visigodos e Suevos eram "povos Bárbaros", mas também eram também povos germânicos. Na Roma Antiga usava-se o termo Bárbaro para designar todos os que não eram Romanos, basicamente todos os "estrangeiros", incluindo os Celtas e Iberos da Peninsula Ibérica. Daí que para se entender especificamente de que local vinham os Visigodos ou Suevos se diz "povos germânicos". 🙂

Hello Chikara! 😃 Yes, it's different but related. The modern-day city of Coimbra is located 16km northeast of Conimbriga, but Conimbriga gave rise to Coimbra, at the end of the Roman Empire.

@@louranicerodrigues6092 Normalmente o RU-vid coloca automaticamente as legendas no idioma que deteta no celular, TV, etc. Mas nem sempre funciona bem, nesse caso só ativando manualmente. E depois, em princípio, já funcionará sempre 🙂
