Exploring Eagle Mountain Railroad by DIY Speeder from Salton Sea

A group of friends and I built a couple DIY railroad speeders. We'd heard that the Eagle Mountain Railroad was getting scrapped. Talk about losing a piece of history...what a tragedy! So, we figured, time was of the essence....
Despite the 91 degree F weather, we headed out there.
We figured we'd get out to the track, ride it, and document as much as possible before it's gone. Yes, this is a long video, but we're hoping that people can use it to ride the rails by video long after the track is gone.
We hope railroading fans enjoy this slice of our history.
Filmed October 20, 2018
POINTS OF INTEREST

FYI, the track got out of spec on the bridge over the water channel and right after it. It pinched together and was hard to get through on the speeder.

I remember reading this history of the line. Very interesting as apparently it did actually have trainsvonbit up until 1986 if I remember correctly. It was mentioned that at some point there was hope of reopening the line for some alternate use but nothing ever came of it. Sad. Totally weird that the rail line that remains was never pulled up and scrapped but I guess that just means more fun! Looks like great fun.

Formerly a photographer, now retired, partially disabled; comment for around 7:32 (and the selfie moving view around 9:50 ) mark give or take a few minutes : semi educated guess as to why the Speeder seems to moving too fast for safety, but its not . for one, in 35mm slr film camera terms, the lens at this segment of video is zoomed out probably wide angle, anywhere from 35mm - 24mm focal length . The speeder, riding height and camera are lower to the railroad than if you were sitting in a vehicle shooting from car seat through the cars windshield , driving on motor vehicle road of course. beautiful weather and videography . thanks for the upload !

Being that this video is 4 years old, I assume that all of the tracks have been torn up by now. Is that true? Or did they leave any behind? There are still the Carrizo Gorge tracks. I don't know if there are any plans for that one. And there are hundreds of other abandoned lines around the country. It's been since the mid 70s since I did this track. It was live then. We had a train schedule so we didn't collide with the regular run. We used to hunt quail from the cart. They were very abundant out there.
