With water temps dropping around 5 or so degrees in the last week the fishing has been inconsistent, and that’s to put it nicely. However on the plus side the tides have been small and the water has been crystal clear so it opened up a few options to explore the places that usually have too much current to fish..
We decided to go for a look at the flats at a local creek and fish the high tide to see what we could find. We scored a solid bag of fish on the incoming tide with lures before snag bashing our way back up the creek trying for a mangrove jack.
For the most part I fished my 701SF Dobyns Champion Extreme, with a 2500 sized reel, 10lb Sunline Siglon ADV and 30lb FC Rock leader. All the flathead I caught using a Tiemco Lonesome Drifter which is a really cool miniature swim bait, the technique was just a short sharp few twitches then a pause which worked a treat on the day.
