Now THIS is why I moved to Florida!!!! The history gives me chills. The people of old Florida were the toughest there ever was. We have been here in Florida for 6 months( well hubby was born here but moved away for a long bit) & we have explored places that are off the beaten path of tourists. We ain’t interested in Disney or anything of that nature... we want HISTORY! Going to head to that museum this weekend! We drove thru Matlacha last weekend looking for some Reggae ☺️ Thanks for the video!!! Bc of you, we have chose NE Cape Coral to settle for now 🙂
Definitely on my list. You know, it’s funny... whenever I visit Florida, I go see everything else culture wise except the beaches. Been there all times of the year and always love it.
It's gorgeous there in Everglade City! Somehow, I think the feds make mucho dinero off of the drug trade..."if you can't beat 'em join 'em"...;) ...and then there's the golf cart parade =D Thank You for this tour and interesting FL history Jose!
I live in Ft.Lauderdale and have always wanted to take a drive out there and even spend a night. EXCELLENT PRESENTATION ! So nice and interesting that you gave us the history of the city.
My Dad loved to catch fish. He and his Drinking buddies that also had a fishing problem would drive down to Everglades City and fish Tarpon with light tackle. This was back in the 1960s.
I visited Everglades city in 1972 people were poor kids barefoot they lived in shacks went back in the 80s and they had nice homes nice cars and kids straped in gold chains. Shrimping got good in the 70s.
And first off, they never got caught doing it. They got ratted out by people people ratted them out. They never got caught in the process of hauling marijuana. It was all done by people riding them out. My dad went to jail for like eight years I know.
Very interesting info! But you failed to mention that during the Spanish American War, many Cuban and Spaniards moved to Key West and Tampa area (1800’s). They use to work in Tobacco industry as well as fishing. Also, remember the British traded Florida for Havana in the Colonial Days for a while.
Everglades city they brought it in on boats called T crafts .They used air boats and they also use stone crab boats to bring in the marijuana. My dad lost 4or5 boats that got impounded by the government. My dad was out on Bail still doing loads in the late 80s, there’s so much of the story. This guy is not telling that is true. He has no clue. I’ve lived in Everglades city my whole life born and raised my great great great grandmother was born on Fakahatchee Island and there’s graves there early 1800s they live there and my great great grandfather had the Smallwood store but the Daniels family were the head guys for the marijuana kingpins in Everglades city
Born and raised in everglades city Fl been a resident for 35 yrs and I wouldn't change it for the world there is so much that outsiders don't know and will never know because everglades is still as quiet and I know that because of undercovers and stuff u never know am 5th generation
Everglades City looked cool and I mean interesting in a nice way because I couldn't explore on my own cause it was a group trip. Oh no when you said regulation that just sounds like corruption, sad to hear. I swear it was the nicest weather though
Thanks and loved the video! I have family in Goodland nearby. We were just there 2 weeks ago and was really blown away by the store. I found it really interesting learning about the Edgar Watson story. We will be going back again and be taking a boat trip to chathem bend where Edgar built his farm. Also, look up the stories about Totch Brown.
First off I am a 8 generation native to Everglades city fl my family live here before there was a town and where the Saltwater Cowboys coming from that’s just some made up name. This guy is making it up I guess plus it didn’t end until the late 80s. My father went to jail for this all my family, which were the Daniels. They were the kingpins in Everglades city they were the head guys doing it. It didn’t end in the early 80s, and they did not haul cocaine. They only hauled marijuana. They went and got it off of shrimp boats offshore and brought it into Everglades city so I’m gonna keep listening to this guys here first off and then I’ll comment again.

Florida today is over populated, over polluted, and over priced. I moved here in 84 when it was still pristine. those days are long gone and aren't coming back. my postcard dream is destroyed in ruins. out of hatred of ice I stay, but thats it.
Nothing personal but here in the last year there’s Ben so many people talking about what happened and 99 percent of it is wrong I drives me crazy there’s about 20 people that know the truth and there natives that are still living here in Everglades city they all done it and went to jail for it they know the truth I have heard hundreds of stories from them and my father who did it and went to prison
Just went here this past weekend. Driving through the road when you first enter you can tell this place has been through a lot. It also feels untouched and secluded from tourism which is my favorite. If you want peace and quiet it's definitely a place to visit. I wish I stayed for a sunset they must be nice over there.
I worked on the road construction out there on 41 in2013-2013. Absolutely loved the area and would move there if I could, but when the job was done I went back home to North Florida and won’t leave my family and they won’t move with me. Turns out, I’m the only one who loved it😢.
As a cabbie in naples in the early 80's,we all had stories of our everglades fisherman, they were important to us,,and we to them.lots of stories about these characters
I've enjoyed your videos for a while now. I used to live in South Florida for 6 years, dont think I could live there now but I had a great time back then, enjoyed its natural beauty.
My wife and I were just in Everglades City and we were there at Smallwood museum but they were closed. We were there around 5:30. We took an Airboat Ride from Dwayne at Jungle Erv's. We will Definitely go back there. Thanks for the stories and video.
My city (Ocala) used to look similar YEARS AGO, but "The winds of change came and took their toll." Not all change is bad, but likewise not all change is improvement/progress.
The locals say “call yer county” not collier and that little island is pronounced “Chuck a lusky” not Chokoloskee. The can spot an outsider right off the bat by the way they pronounce the names around there.
Most of us don’t smoke that poison, it is so powerful now it ruins good minds. You will see in a couple of years. Get away from it- the govt wants you on it!! That’s all you need to know.
Wish you would re-do the video with new narration, leave out the old-days drug stories.... A new video, same video with new audio, with you then telling us about life there. What is the cost of houses, and were you stating the new laws are preventing any agriculture, and what about small gardens?
This guy is all over the place I saw a video that he made where he was leaving Florida and moving to Alabama and he had all these bad things to say about Florida and so many good things to say about Alabama and about two months later he leaves Alabama moved back to Florida and is talking shit about Alabama and praising Florida he don’t know what he wants or who he is
How did Florida take away rights from these locals that took away their ability to thrive? What laws what regulations what people. Please be specific! It's easy to make generalize statements that have zero basis in facts to back these statements up. My money says not 9nr single thing you said us true. But prove me wrong
