Herkimer, NY" is pronounced as "HUR-kuh-mer." The emphasis is on the first syllable, and the "r" in the second syllable is subtle. Got to please to pronunciation police 👮♀️lol😂 luv you guys like and subscribe ❤
It is the village of Herkimer. It had several factories at one time, that where powered by an Hydraulic Canal. The factories made amongst other things Wooden Officer Furniture. The factories have long since been torn down and the canal filled in. New York Central Railroad tracks ran through the middle of the village. It was connected to several other communities not only by the railway but also Trolley Car service. The Trolly Car bridge that spans West Canada Creek still stands, while several others are long since gone. The court house that the famous murder trial of Chester Gillette was conducted is still there. General Herkimers house is available for tours. At one time railroad tracks ran behind the house and on those tracks the Funeral Train that conducted President Lincoln body on it’s tour before his burial. At one time it was proposed to renovate the school house into apartments or office building.
Dude...you here in the village? Lol. I'm an army vet that came here to retire... It's really sad. Used to be beautiful, busy and industrious. It's like seeing the old really cute girl from high school. Then 40 years on she's not doing super well...
@@robertphillips6296 Hey dude I am from can you please tell me something more about Herkimer because i am applied in Herkimer county community college please its humble request.
@@ashusandhey3037 I believe the college is good. The Village of Herkimer is quite small and not exciting or entertaining at all, unless you count the neighbor disputes. It is historical with several places to visit, including the Herkimer Diamond Mines. Check out the Herkimer Wikipedia page for more info and links.

I've watched a few of your videos to try to get a sense of where I might want to live in NY that isn't the expensive as heck Hudson Valley. It's been nice to feel like I can 'see' the cities and towns without having to driving to them.
you really should learn how to pronounce the names of the towns. i always thought herkimer sounded just like it’s spelled, but i’ve never heard anyone say it like you do. south main street was always more run down than north main street. the college brought a lot of riff raff into town. you should have went to yetty’s for pizza! or a sub! best in the mohawk valley! you missed 2 of the most famous tourist attractions, too. general herkimer’s statue and the courthouse that was world famous for one of the best known murder trials of the last century. an american tragedy was written about it and also a movie. beautiful building
Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't realize I was in the presence of the Pronunciation Police. I guess I'll just call you next time I need a grammar check, since you seem to have mastered the art of being insufferably nitpicky
@@brandonpaul3985 He kept saying Herkimore and somebody corrected him so I thought I would throw him off a bit. Sorry to confuse the complete hell out of ya.
