Another thing you just missed but I thought I'd comment on: The Russian soldiers paratrooping in Wolverines and Exodus are real AI enemies which will shoot at you if you get close enough. Even the BTR's that are parachuted in are fully-modelled BTRs. Depending on where the parachuter is programmed to land, they'll either fall right through the floor and despawn, or successfully land wait around a few seconds and then despawn. This is dependant on whether or not you can see where they will land. Just another thing in MW2 that totally didn't need to be so fleshed out (i.e a fake paradrop background would've worked fine) but they decided to put so much more effort in to it anyway. And that's why this game is a masterpiece, so much effort put in even for bits that didn't need effort.
actually dumping already existing assets onto a parachute is less work than creating a 2d fake background that would look worse anyway. but hey, you do you.
Someone found the IRL location this map was based on, it's in Vancouver, Washington. It's a plaza at the intersection of NE Thurston Way and NE Vancouver Plaza Dr. It's changed a bit since 2009 but it's still pretty recognizable.
@@ThatWasAwesomeYT This is actually in Springfield Virignia. Specifically, Frontier Drive near the Silver Diner which has the same intersection with the i395 overpass that goes to 95. Has a chicken place in the same spot too lol
Yep! I grew up in Vancouver and I've been to the area this map is modeled after many times. It blew my mind when I played the game. I was like "ive been there!!"
I remember hearing the panic over the radio for the first time, and getting chills knowing I was about to be fighting to defend my homeland. Something very few games have successfully done.
Cod 4 and mw2 no doubt best campaigns ever. They just had a certain vibe to them that I picked up on while playing them back in the day, and I just recently replayed the whole trilogy on hardened difficulty recently and it still had that same special vibe to it. I can’t explain it but im sure a lot of you know what I’m talking about.
nO! yOu'Re WrOnG!!! mOdErN wArFaRe 2023 Is ThE bEsT oNe! YoU'rE jUsT JEALOUS!!!!!!!!!!!! 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬😱😱😱😭😱😭😱😭😤😤😤😤😤😤🥱🥱🥱🥱😦🧐🙁🥳😵🥺☹️🥺😧🤯😳 Yes, I regret making this shitpost. Don't worry, I agree with you... COD 4 and MW2 were the best. Gen Alpha would never understand how amazing the OG Modern Warfare was... I'm sorry if I offended you or did something wrong.
i think wolverines is so large outside play space with collisions is because you can see alot more from the UAV and potentially fire the UAV missle ouside the play space
I think there's a theory that the "not so average trooper" who was dead outside of the HVIs panic room was one of the guys from No Russian. You see a Harrier take off as you approach 4677 brookmere that ties into that theory
@OJ9992 if I'm remembering correctly, one of the shooters from No Russian is tasked with killing the HVI by Sheppard, he knows "icepick/phoenix" so the HVI opens the door (hence "no sign of forced entry"). He kills the HVI, and is then killed by someone else who is taken aboard the harrier, so the players squad misses what happened by minutes. There's some substantial missing pieces of info though, the game doesn't give you too much to work with.
@@jamesjonathan7187 So Shepherd was working with Makarov’s guys? I really wish IW had explained who the HVI was and who was on that Harrier. Shadow Company?
@OJ9992 yea the theory may not make perfect sense, but the jist was that Sheppard wanted the HVI dead while making it look like he wanted him rescued. Could be he leaked the call sign/counter sign then a shadow company dude took out Makarov guy shortly after killing the HVI then he left in the harrier. It's weird they didn't give us more to work with, the scene us really weird and there's clearly something going on between the harrier, the tattooed shooter, and the lack of forced entry.
"WOLVERINES!!" with guns held to the sky is the perfect referance to older movies, even though that doesn't happen in game, it happens in mission name.
I remember the co-op mission where one of you were in an ac-130 and another was on the ground and you had to guide them to the other part of the suburbs
All that extra detail near Burger Town is because the map is reused for the Special Ops mission "Big Brother". The person on the ground uses a lot more of the accessible map, and the high altitude view of the Blackhawk door gunner requires a lot of detail in the distance. Those little rooms inside upper floors give the door gunner some nice detail as well. Play this map in Special Ops mode and it will make a lot more sense.
I always loved this mission in particular, just seeing a glimpse of what it be like if America was invaded is crazy, especially to us Americans who probably couldn’t imagine something like this ever happening
I loved exploring this mission. The suburban neighborhood was just so cool to see, especially in the MW2 remastered campaign. The spec ops mission in this area was great too.
Loved this game back in the day but I could never get over how bonkers and insane the premise is (mostly pertaining to the Russian invasion). You mean to tell me the US didn't see the massive buildup of Russian forces beforehand? Not to mention, combat jumps and airborne units in general aren't really practical in modern combat situations. Even if we go back to when this game came out, it still makes little sense. But it was dumb fun in the end and I enjoyed it despite the heavy emphasis on fiction. MW2 will always hold a special place in my heart.
Not too long ago someone found a cutscene in MW3 that was cut from the game, it was an alternate ending to the current final cutscene, after Price hits his cigar he looks up and across the building is a man in a suit looking at him before he walks away, Price then slumps and drops his cigar meaning he dies With the current ending, it's never explicitly stated if Price lives or not, however, at the end of the credits it shows a picture, 3/4 of those characters were confirmed KIA, the only one that wasn't is Price, so I think it's safe to assume that Price was supposed to die Anyway, the Raptor character reminded me of the guy you see across the building
The music for this mission was the best. As a kid I was fully immersed in the campaign and generally felt sad because of the music. 😂 MW2 is by far the best COD 👌
something i loved to do as a kid in this game was get out of bounds in the Hidden spec ops mission and explore the All Ghillied Up map that was basically ported from COD4
I usually bring the sentry gun to downstair before going into diner, that saves the sentry from the bombing, then put it back on the roof at the destroyed section where it has a wall for cover so it can still function as a sentry gun when enemy is rushing to burger town.
I love this game!! Well done video too! a couple of things I want to say: 1- You forgot to show the BTR reversing. 2- The harriers taking off at the end of the mission. 3- And I believe the Honey Badger randomly crushes a pickup truck after crossing the checkpoint for no reason, if I'm not mistaken. 4- You can shoot the soldier manning the triple A and it would stop shooting! Overall loved this video, will be playing the campaign for the 100th time soon because of this video. Cheers again!
Fun fact the depiction of Interstate 95 going though Virginia is as fictional as the story of this game. In this game I95 goes though a part of the state that doesn't even have an interstate. It looks like, for some reason, I95 replaced US Route 29 in this universe south of DC
From what i recall-- its modelled around the area surrounding infinity wards office in tornto, that low definition image could literally be the surround area that theyre just building the map on top of
I emailed treyarch and activision and suggested they revisit this game but as civilians fighting alongside u.s. troops to gain a foot hold in these battles as well as other locations within the country. Obviously to no avail
I-395 is a 14 mile stretch of highway in Northern Virginia and DC. I’m curious who you all think Raptor is? I think he might be a high level guy in the CIA or maybe even a cabinet secretary. I wish the devs would’ve told us who. Could’ve added to the lore for sure.
I like maintaining the mystery of who raptor is. It doesnt matter who it is, uou dont need to know, youre just a grunt following orders to protect a VIP.
36:20 I dont think thats Raptor because Foley would had comment on that (he have seen Raptor and if that was Raptor he would had said that). also Raptor been inside the freezer for so long I guess is because theres mission scripts bound to him (one been a if killed mission failed and if he gets deleted then that fails). so he raims untill the game can just flag him as saved, complete the protect stage/state then remove him. ((remmber in older game like Legend of zelda in a lot of cutseens there was a copy of the Link you play as because removing said link crash the game).
Always thought this setting would've made an incredible multiplayer map, it's a shame we never got one in the parking lot by the burger town or in the residential streets with gunfights from either sides of the streets in suburbia...
Overlord's voicelines with the Predator are wonderful references to the AC-130 from the last game. I only ever played the original Modern Warfare, so its nice to hear that callback.
Hey! love your channel man. I was going to say, i haven’t seen any videos trying to explain Raptor and the side mission you go on in Exodus. I think it’d be cool if you made a video explaining the possibilities of what the side mission was about.
I hope we get to see all the mw3 out of bounds I'd love to see Paris ive always wanted to know what it looks like on the other side and what the ground veiw is like on the ac130 mission
Something you didn't mention, even if it is inside of the map, but I find it interesting either way is that in the start of Exodus, if you stay on the left side of the road, you can see a civilian car driving past you (if you stay on its way it will kill you) until it crashes into the barricade and the car blows up.
Some might call those mcmansions. Also, Shepard took control of foleys men, and the game never mentions him relinquishing them. What are the chances they ended up in shadow company since it's made up of rangers?
I think the reason they didn’t end up using all their playable space is because they ran out of time. I think this might’ve happened because they never quite clocked how time consuming the two dc missions would take develop. I wonder if there’s cut scripts out there that they just didn’t have time to develop.
this has definitely become one of my favourite channels to watch og cod gameplay can you try do this on cod4 remastered on missions like fng and all ghillied up
One of my favorite missions from my all time favorite games! I would love to see an examination of "No Russian" I always remember seeing open doors on the airplanes that you could never reach
I'm pretty sure Wolverines and Exodus were based off a cut mp mp named mp_suburbia(Arcadia) The trailers are not models. Raptor is the president - the cut maps gasstation and bridge were meant to explain/expand on it.
Awesome vid Man thanks so much, and I totally agree, the Modern Warfare series is the best story telling and action packet ! Except for this last game in the reboot series MW3/DLC which was horrible ! Anyway I get little sentimental watching these old maps.
Can you also talk about the Weapons gears and equipment used by the AI in the campaign. Like the US Rangers use m4a1 but it's only a default/no attachment and grenadier attachment, their SCAR had only 4 attachment (acog, red dot, masterkey shotgun and a grenade launcher), their m240 and m16a4 only had 3 attachment (acog, red dot and a grenade launcher). The TF141 AI will sometimes drop m4a1 with 2 attachment so yeah... Hope you make a video about it.
I played tf out of that spec ops mission. There was funny animations in the hot tub whenever someone went down in there lol. Used to laugh my ass off as a 12 year old at that
If you wondering, why EU didn't alert USA, (asides from improved diplomatic with Ultranationalist Russia Gov), because after airport massacre everyone believed USA is real biggest terrorism chaos, and became sympathetic to Russian people cause, and let Russia use their countries as staging ground for naval and airborne operations. (Similar to early WW2 Allied policy , doing nothing , didn't get invaded)😊
