Beautifully done ! I'm a tour guide lecturer in the glorious city of Rouen, Normandy, and I find this video comes as close as it can get to a real tour, with an added value in the sounds and visuals. It was a nice walk in Liverpool and you managed to show its many faces and lives. Thank you for your many labours and efforts :)

I too was born and brought up in Liverpool but left when I was 21. Can I, like a great many other Liverpudlians, thank you for doing a wonderful job. As a young lad I used to visit my grandmother who lived close to Cains Brewery and to get there I walked up and then down Park Road at the bottom of which (near the church) stood a building which showed evidence of the Blitz. Lots of holes in the stonework around the door. Near the TA barracks on Aigburth Road there used to be bunkers for anti aircraft guns which we used to play in as kids. In a similar way to the Thames estuary, Liverpool had anti aircraft towers erected in the estuary of the Mersey.

Also, if you do another visit Fort Perch Rock at New Brighton is an interesting place too.

I was surprised you didn’t include the Philharmonic Pub. Lovely pub with carved panel rooms. But more notable is that it is home the England’s only grade 2 urinals. Many of the pubs do have wonderful wood work. I was told by my family it was due to shipwrights needing work. Royal Albert Docks there is the twisty slides my uncle used to move certain goods from upper levels. No doubt your time is limited. There are some wonderful stories concerning pro and anti abolitionists in the city hall. Their portraits hang opposite one another. Also some lovely treasures on display. Wonderful video, plus I learned some things about my family home town.

A school friend of mine went to university in Liverpool and his stories about the place put me off for a while. However, I have visited twice and it became one of my favourite cities! There's an ancient story about people travelling from Point A to Point B and asking someone at the side of the road what to expect that seems relevant...

@@Robslondon I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that I treat people as I'd like to be treated, so I've had a great time almost everywhere I've stayed (although I've had a few askance looks, as I may not dress how people expect: e.g. wearing a 3-piece suit into a biker bar...). There is a great pub in the Liverpool docks area that lots of people I know are scared to go to!

Fascinating video. Visied Liverpool several times but haven't been back for a while. Mainly went for The Beatles. Wish i went to the Slavery museum which i think is in the Albert Dock. The White Star is a great pub but my favourite is Ye Cracke just off Hope St. Excellent to see the carriage from the Dockers Umbrella. A fascinating museum for sure.

As always beautifully filmed Rob, informative and a whole lot of other superlatives to boot. I always wanted to travel on the DUCKMARINE after being at a Ross Noble gig and he did a 15 minute monologue on that particular form of transport. (It was able to travel from land to water and the reverse by all account) Sadly no longer in service.

@Robslondon yes, it did sink your memory serves you well. Another fun fact about Liveroool, it concerns the Albert Dock. I'm the episode where Uncle Albert goes missing, Del Boy and Dave ( I mean Rodney) go looking for him.Del Boy finds him at that very dock.

Hey Rob. I lived in Liverpool for most of the 80's and would move there again if the chance occurred. Now you kept it clean about the old Lewis's store you never mentioned about the Sir Jacob Epstein statue over the main door. It is officially called Liverpool Resurgent to celebrate Liverpool resurgence after WW11 but as the statue is of a naked male proudly displaying his errr maleness its usually refered to as 'Nobby Lewis' or 'Dickie Lewis' 😮 Now I knew about that obelisk styled tomb in the Rodney Street churchyard but not the supposed story. Rodney Street was Liverpool's equivalent of Harley Street in its past. The Royal Hotel was Liverpools last(?) gas lit pub in Smithdown Road L7 where i lived. The gas lighting was only removed in the 90's(?) The facade was tile covered too. Its now student flats but the tiles are still in place. It can be seen on Google maps. I have so much in my memory about Liverpool. Oh and if I ever mention the Grafton Rooms in West Derby Road many a guys going to know what I can't put on here or YT will block it. Anyways enought of the Rose tinted spectacles past. Cheers DougT in Mancs now.
