This video takes viewers on location to the Aucilla River in Northwest Florida where Museum scientists search underwater for mammoth and mastodon fossils as well as other artifacts. Back in the Museum lab, scientists demonstrate and explain the process of making specimen casts. The segment is part of the Museum's Emmy Award-winning half-hour film, "Expedition Florida: From Exploration to Exhibition."

I lived in Marianna Florida within sight of the Chipola river from my front porch and I constantly went swimming and always looking for arrow heads.Loved sitting in the waters edge as the river flowed by on warm sunny days.We lived on a red clay dirt road and after a heavy rain I’d search for Arrowheads on it.

I live in North Alabama, I'm glad these people in Florida are able to recover all this history so everyone can see and enjoy it. Here TVA will prosecute a person if you pick up Indian artifacts on TVA property. They call us luders, TVA wants the artifacts in the bottom of the river never to be seen.

It's a dredge. Nowhere is the pump near the suction end or in the hose. The artifact just flows happily through the tube like it has in the river for thousands of years. This is just one last storm.

They make cast to show to the public what do they do with the actual artifacts? I know a guy that has over 200 Georgia in Florida pots all came from six different archaeologists..
